Neighbourhood
Gerringong is a glorious sea side town, nestled between the mountains and the ocean and surrounded by dairy farms. Gerringong is famous for Werri Beach, a surf beach for advanced riders, and Seven Mile Beach Reserve a gentle family friendly beach great for learning to surf or just swimming and snorkeling in the pristine water. Some other local activities include: horse riding on the beach or in the valley, canoeing and kayaking up Crooked River, stand up paddle boarding in the inlet, hiking the Coastal Walk to watch the whales and dolphins, Minamurra Rainforrest and many other walking and hiking tracks including waterfalls, waterholes and lookouts.
If you are a foodie, the region is rich in organic produce with local farmers markets offering farm fresh options. Our home is 500m away from the Gerringong main street where internationally recognised 'Daily Grind Coffee' is made and served. Multiple cafe's, a bakery and gelateria in town will cater to your culinary desires and The Hill Bar is open late with a smooth vibe. Gerringong is surrounded by boutique wineries where cellar door wine tastings and fine dining are a visitors delight.
For those who like to shop, Natural Necessity Surf Shop is within walking distance and Boutique shopping in Berry and Kiama are both less than 10 minutes drive away.
Gerringong also has a strong arts community with an arts collective and local gallery in town and painting and pottery classes available nearby.
4o mins south of us is Huskisson and the white sands of Jarvis Bay, and up the mountains is the Southern Highlands.
10 mins inland is the Minamurra Rainforrest walk to where under the canopy you can make your way to a cool waterfall.
You are likely to run out of time long before you run out of things to explore in Gerringong.
It's not a very commercial place but if that is something you seek there is a theme park 15 mins away called Jamberoo Recreation Park, and a major shopping centre with a cinema complex in Shellharbour just 30 mins north.
Getting around
We are walking distance to all local amenities including a chemist, grocer, coffee shops and playgrounds. There is a train service at the end of our street with a very scenic journey north or south but most locals require a car to reach their chosen destination. We have an L plater in the family so for now car swaps are possible for long distance swaps but not ideal (for you!) for short ones.
