General overview
Our home was built in 1915 and it's truly a historic gem. It's a really interesting property because we gutted the entire home and added an addition along the back so the entire front side of the house is original and the backside is all new. It's bones are original and historic but we've updated it with modern plumbing and electrical. When we bought the house it had been vacant for many years and needed a lot of love.
The space
There are three formal bedrooms on the top floor.
Master: Queen bed, full bathroom with walk in shower.
Bedroom 2: Queen bed, half bathroom attached.
Bedroom 3: Full bed with full bathroom (bath tub) outside the door off the hallway. This room doubles as Melissa's sewing room.
Alternative places around the house are available for additional rooms - grandkids use the "mudroom" downstairs on the basement level off the garage with a blow up mattress we have. A full bathroom with a shower is available off the garage. The "blue room" with the second fire place is a good space for a blow up mattress as well. Half bath off that room on the first floor. A pack and play fits in the laundry room right off the master bedroom (2nd floor).
Guest access
It's worth noting that the house has a fully operational elevator that can be used to access the basement, first, and second floors. The shower in the master bathroom is also fully accessible for roll in wheelchair access with grab bars and a built in bench.
Notes
If you just need parking for a KU basketball or football game, PLU members can get free parking in our very large driveway on the side of the house. Just message me.

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood is very safe and family friendly. A gorgeous area to walk around and easily access the KU campus by just taking a few steps to gain access to the center of campus. It's a mostly residential area with lots of nice streets to walk on and a the campus Catholic church just around the corner.
Getting to my home
You will need a car to navigate Lawrence. Public transit is available but most people drive. We have two cars available for use (2016 Toyota Camry hybrid and an older two door small pickup truck).
Nearest airport
Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is about a one hour drive away. There are shuttle services available as well as Uber.
Getting around
We are not within walking distance of a grocery store, we'd recommend having a car or using Uber to navigate Lawrence. We're about a 10 minute drive from Mass Street (core of downtown Lawrence). We have two electric bikes available for use as well.

Kurt
My name is Kurt and my wife is Melissa. We both worked nearly our whole careers for Kansas University and Melissa recently retired. I may retire one day, but my current role allows us to be very flexible and travel whenever we want to. We have two grown daughters (both on PLU!) and three young grandkids.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
