General Overview

Our cozy five-bedroom lakefront cottage is located right on the beach overlooking Lake Huron.

The Space

The cottage was built in the late 1920s and retains much of its original character - it is rustic and uninsulated. There are three bedrooms on the main level (queen bed, double bed and two sets of twin bunkbeds) and two upstairs (queen bed and single bed). The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher. There are indoor and outdoor dining spaces overlooking the lake, and an ample living area with a TV & DVD player. The driveway is long and lined with trees and blackberry bushes (help yourself). There's a treehouse and a trampoline and a shed filled with bikes, golf clubs, soccer balls, floaties and camp chairs. We typically have wooden Muskoka chairs and a fire pit we leave right on the beach to enjoy the vibrant sunsets and s'mores. We have kayaks and paddleboards and an outdoor shower for rinsing off.

Notes

Every Monday Kincardine hosts Market in the Park with arts, crafts, fresh produce and odds and ends. Every Wednesday in Dunsmoor Park, you can hear a live concert or take in the Lighthouse Swing Band Dance at the beach pavilion. There are plenty of festivals through the months of July and August and fall fairs in September and October. There are many attractions luring tourists to Lake Huron from a fishing derby in May to the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games in July and surfing off Station Beach in the fall.

Neighbourhood

We are 10 minutes south of Kincardine’s picturesque harbour, restaurants, parks, and Scottish pipe band parades on summer Saturday evenings. Don't miss the parade! Each Saturday night at 8:00 PM sharp in July and August the traditional Parade goes through the historical downtown, stops while everyone enjoys an ice cream and them returns to Victoria Park. The beautiful sand beach is right at your door and is walkable for miles in either direction. The freshwater lake is ideal for swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

Getting to my home

There is nothing better than driving to Lake Huron. Whether you are coming from London, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo or Toronto, you are likely no more than 2.5 hours away. You pass through pretty villages and small towns, farm stands selling fresh produce, flowers and maple syrup, Mennonites and antique stores.

Nearest airport

Kincardine is 200km and approximately 2 1/2 hours from Pearson Airport (YYZ), 325km from Buffalo International Airport (BUF), and 300km from Detroit (DTW)

Getting Around

Its a 10 minute drive to Kincardine or a 20 minute bike ride along the water.

Lisa

We are an easygoing family of four and we like travelling in Canada and internationally. We have an adult daughter that lives in London, England and an adult son that lives in NYC so we are always interested in visiting those locations. We’re excited to share our home with like-minded, friendly families. We generally travel during school holidays but have some flexibility. We stay at our seasonal lakefront cottage during the summer, so a non-simultaneous trade is possible during July and August. Our home is nice and comfortable. Our city is friendly and conveniently located.
