Experience the charm of our beautiful 1929 home, Down House, nestled on a serene and picturesque road. This delightful family retreat offers a spacious garden and an inviting heated swimming pool – perfect for creating unforgettable memories. With four generous bedrooms, a family bathroom, a modern wet room, a dedicated cinema room and a separate playroom, Down House is where comfort meets family fun. While we adore exploring new destinations, there’s nothing quite like the warmth and allure of coming back to our cherished home.
The Space
Our home boasts four spacious bedrooms, each featuring a comfortable double bed and charming late-Victorian design features that add character and warmth. Upstairs, you’ll find a lovely family bathroom with a large rainfall shower, an original 1904 French cast iron bath, a toilet, and a basin. Tucked away at the end of the landing, behind a hidden door, is a sleek and modern wet room for added convenience.
The heart of the house is our light-filled kitchen and dining area, which seamlessly opens onto the veranda and swimming pool, with the lush garden stretching beyond. The kitchen is both functional and inviting, offering a breakfast bar, a generous Victorian kitchen table, and two cozy armchairs that invite you to relax.
Adjacent to the kitchen, you’ll pass through the utility room into the playroom – a hub of entertainment with a large TV, comfy sofa, bean bags, a sit-in race simulator, and even a dartboard for friendly competition.
For a unique treat, head downstairs to the cellar and discover another hidden gem – the world’s smallest cinema (joke). It’s snug yet perfectly equipped for the family to enjoy a film in snug comfort.
Outdoors, we have a 10m x 4m heated swimming pool which uses a UV filter, negating the need for chlorine (lovely water). The pool is not secured with a fence or anything, therefore a strict eye needs to be kept on small children outside.
A nicely mowed lawn is alongside the pool, with a 'wildlife garden and koi pond beyond the yew hedge, at the furtherest end of the garden.
For some competitive fun, our table tennis table is brilliant., two PS4 consoles, a dart board and a race simulator all add to the fun! You'll also find a great golf practice net in the garden, ready for any golf enthusiast, wanting to brush up on their skills whilst on holiday.
Guest Access
The house is set over three floor so is unsuitable for wheelchair access.
Notes
We have two Bengal cats which will be staying at the house with visitors. Tilly and Ted and siblings, and are truly lovely. Very friendly cats indeed, who are great with people, including kids.

Neighbourhood
We live in a lovely part of Alton, a market town in the Hampshire countryside. Dating back to 1086, Alton has great historical references in the early history of Southern England. Nearby you'll find Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Farnham, Guildford and central London is only 1 hour away by direct train line.
The town centre is within a 7-8 minute walk away, and the open countryside is right on our doorstep too.

Getting Around
Town is within walking distance and includes a couple of large supermarkets, local shows, pubs and a few restaurants. We are happy to leave our Audi S3 for your use, if required.

Jonny
Our family is Oscar (15), Jake (13), Nancy (11), Di and me, Jonny. We have two Bengal cats, who both think they are dogs...very un cat-like in the fact that they love human interaction and are great with kids.
We live in the lovely Hampshire market town of Alton, which is about 1 hour south-west of London. We have done house exchanges previously, which have all been fantastic.
