When you think about a quintessential French house look no further. Situated in a stunning village in the South West of France, ( now listed as a Plus Beaux Villages de France ) our house is a 3-400 year old stone building over three levels. It has very comfortable accommodation for 6 people with a well equipped kitchen, spacious living area, large main bedrooms both with ensuites and a roomy loft with single beds.
What makes it even more special is its close proximity to world class tourist sights, the Dordogne River ( within a hundred metres ) canoeing and biking, and first class restaurants.
The space
You enter the house from the beautiful river stone-lined street to access the living, dining and kitchen area. There is a bespoke wood stove if the weather necessitates. Upstairs, from the tastefully furnished living area, are two spacious double bedrooms of exactly the same dimensions, both with individual ensuite access. The roomy loft with single beds, is located on the third level. ( Perfect for children or teens )
Guest access
There are definitely stairs to negotiate and children would need to be old enough to do this safely.
Notes
There are two comfortable two seater lounges and a large single lounge chair in the living room. A delightful french oak farmhouse dining table seats 8 people comfortably and is a focal point. The kitchen is well equipped with both a gas and electric stove and a small oven. There is also a dishwasher.

Neighbourhood
The neighbourhood itself is enough to tempt you to come here. The village and buildings are so pretty to simply walk around and observe.
The house is located within a 12th century gate which was part of the walls surrounding a Benedictine community established centuries ago. The Abbey of St Pierre is located literally just around the corner from our home and is a stunning example of Roman and Gothic architecture. The portal at the entrance to the Abbey is extraordinary because it was built by stone masons from Toulouse in the 12th century. It remains a much visited destination for tourists. Beaulieu sur Dordogne is quite unique because, as its name suggests, it’s nestled on the banks of the beautiful Dordogne River amid verdant green hills and landscape providing delightful walking opportunities and canoeing. The village itself boasts 5 patisseries and a plethora of restaurants of a high quality. One could easily spend a week in the village and not have to drive anywhere but nonetheless, tourist destinations abound in this wonderfully diverse landscape.
Getting to my home
You can drive to Beaulieu from Paris or other main European cities but we would probably suggest Paris to either Bordeaux or Brive La Gaillarde by train then hire a car from either destination.
We assist with all travel plans if needed.

Getting around
You definitely need a car at the house.
Once here however, hiking, biking and definitely canoeing are all on offer and easy to access.

My husband Neil and I are from Melbourne but we are passionate Francophiles which resulted in us buying a 300+ year old cottage in the Dordogne, Perigord Noir, over 10 years ago.
We are retired musicians who enjoy travelling.
We have undertaken several home swaps using our French cottage ( simultaneously and non) and have explored the NSW coastline and Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast. We would be open to swaps in Europe too as we spend three months in France every year. Every home swap we’ve undertaken has resulted in making new and wonderful friendships.
Our cottage is absolutely charming and set in a very peaceful part of the Dordogne with so much to see and experience.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
