General overview
*the guest house is unavailable for swaps until spring 2025 since we have rented it out. The main house is still available though.
We bought this house as a vacation home after traveling to France for years and giving a lot of thought about where our favorite place to go would be. After much deliberation, this was it! The house consists of a main house and a smaller guest house on the other side of the courtyard. The courtyard looks out on a stunning gothic chateau. The house is located right in the heart of one of the most beautiful villages of France (Plus Beaux Villages de France). You can park the car and then walk to cafes, restaurants, wine tasting caves, a mushroom growing cave, antique shops, a local weekly market, and a fabulous monthly antiques fair (second Sunday of the month). During the summer, there are concerts by the chateau and lots of people biking down along the river on the ‘Loire à Vélo’ bike trail. You can bike to some of the most famous castles of the Loire very easily.
The space
The guest house is what we’ll be offering for swaps, but the main house is available as well if you need more space. In the guest house, there is a small kitchenette with a table. Upstairs, there is a loft-style bedroom and a full bathroom. The place isn’t huge, but it's great for a couple and 2 or 3 kids. We have stayed there with our two teenage boys and it was fine for the four of us. We have folding single beds if you don't mind sharing the bedroom space with your children or guests.
Guest access
There are two floors, so stairs are required.
Notes
Since the house is in the heart of the historic district and adjoins another house, we ask that families consider their noise level before getting in touch. If your kids are really loud screamers, this wouldn’t be a good fit as we would want to be courteous to our neighbors.

Neighbourhood
So much! Walk 100’ to the Montsorelli restaurant and have dinner overlooking the chateau. Walk down to the cafes along the Loire (.3 miles) and have a drink while watching the bikers go by on the Loire bike path. Check out the Abbaye de Fontevraud (5 min away) where Richard the Lion Heart and Eléonore of Aquitaine are buried and where you can catch a concert or art exhibit in this incredible abbey. Head to Saumur, which is a bustling small city about 10 min away, to tour the royal chateau and perhaps see a performance at the Cadre Noir equestrian school. Or, head to Chinon (20 min away) and see the royal fortress or wander through the market. Or, visit any of the most famous chateaux of the Loire, most of which are within an hour’s drive. You can also catch the train to Paris from Saumur (15 min to the train station, 2 hour train ride to downtown paris)) and have a wonderful day strolling the City of Lights.
Getting to my home
Car is best so that you have the flexibility to explore all the small towns and chateaux nearby. But, you could also take the train down from Paris to Saumur and have a taxi, Uber or bus bring you to the house.
Nearest airport
Paris airports - 3 hours by car, 2 hours by train and then a 15 min taxi ride. Tours airport - 1 hour
Getting around
You can walk to a small grocery store or the weekly market. It’s only .3 miles from the house.

We love dining out on the terrace with the view of the castle

Kitchen with induction cook top, oven, small dishwasher and wood stove
Up the stairs, the guest house opens up into a loft style bedroom. There are two folding single beds which can be set up in this same space.
Small living room area
There is one bathroom - it’s upstairs off of the loft bedroom area.

The town of Montsoreau has been designated as a Ville Fleuri, honoring its beautiful flowers and gardens. Walking the streets is delightful.
There is a wonderful weekly market (Sunday mornings) that is a quick 5 min walk away from the house
The royal abbey of Fontevraud is a 5 min drive away. Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lion a heart are buried there. The architecture is incredible and they hold art exhibitions and concerts there throughout the year.
The royal chateau of Saumur is a must see. 10 min drive away. It has beautifully furnished interiors and a very interesting cavalry museum.
The city of Chinon with its fortress is just 20 min away. There, you can explore the rich history (Joan of Arc went there to ask the Dauphin for troops), do wine tastings, or enjoy a drink at the cafes surrounding the town square.
The Loire Valley bike path is just a two minute walk down to the river. It stretches the whole length of the Loire and you can bike to some of the most famous chateaux of the Loire (Chenonceau, chambord, Amboise, etc). You’re welcome to use the 3 bikes and 2 electric bikes that we have at the house.
