General overview
Our home has 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and can comfortably sleep 8. It's a very spacious home with lots of living area. We're on the leafy upper north shore of Sydney, only 5 minutes walk from Warrawee station which will take you in to the centre of the city in about 35 minutes.
The space
Our home is two storey with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (incl 1 ensuite) upstairs and 2 bedrooms downstairs. Downstairs there is one full bathroom and a separate toilet in the laundry.
We have a formal lounge room, dining room and the "big back room" with a casual living area and new kitchen. It's very spacious, comfortable and quiet.
We've not long completed a covered alfresco eating area (main photo of our profile now). It's completely enclosed but can be opened up on two sides. It has a TV, a BBQ, a couple of decks and a spa for 6. It also has a fish pond with gold fish, perfect for relaxing!
We're animal lovers and you'd be most welcome to bring your small doggo.
Guest access
The front door is up a flight of stairs which can be seen in the first photo. Unfortunately, our home would not be good for wheelchair access.
Notes
Our home is not well set up for infants. While both the pond and spa are legal, they aren't enclosed and I'd be concerned about having toddlers around or small children who could lift the spa lid.

Neighbourhood
Warrawee is a leafy suburb on Sydney's upper North Shore. It is close to Wahroonga village and walking distance to Turramurra and Warrawee train stations. This is a beautiful quiet neighbourhood.
Getting to my home
If arriving by road, from the north we are only about 2km from the exit to M1 freeway. Leave the freeway and turn left onto the Pacific Highway, then left into Cherry St. Brentwood Avenue is on your left.
If heading north, turn right into Turramurra Avenue and then left into Brentwood Ave.
By rail, Warrawee Station is the closest (500m). At the top of the stairs, turn left onto the bridge and then right as you exit the station on Warrawee Ave. About 100m down, you'll come to a path that continues down the side of the railway corridor. Walk down there and you'll come to Brentwood Ave.
Nearest airport
Sydney Airport is 34km from home, 35 mins in really good traffic or over an hour in bad traffic. If arriving in peak hour, take the train and change at Central for the T9 Northern line.
Getting around
The train station is only 500m away and it's 30 mins into the centre of Sydney direct. Chatswood is 15 minutes, Hornsby is 6 minutes. Trains leave every 15 minutes. We have a car available which you'd be most welcome to use. It's about 30 minutes to the beach.

People Like Us Local Guide
I'd love to meet any of our PLU's travelling through Sydney. Let me know when you're here and let's meet up for a drink or something! β€οΈ
It seems mildly ridiculous to be leaving a review of Drew and Kathy as exchangers when, having set up People Like Us, of course they know how to be the perfect people to swap homes with! And on that front we werenβt disappointed on any level!
From the first point of contact, communication was fantastic β friendly, informative, humourous and reliable. We very soon felt that Drew and Kathy were friends we just hadnβt met yet.
And then we arrived in Warrawee to discover that their house is just as gorgeous as the photos on the site make out β clean, spacious, well-equipped, comfortable, welcoming, and a true home from home. The location is perfect, especially so for us as we have friends and family nearby, but even for those without that draw, there are shops and restaurants a short walk away, and within a couple of minutes walk you can be at Warrawee station and on a train into the city - with all of the many attractions there. Drew also allowed us the use of his car, which opened up so many other national parks and attractions for us to explore nearby.
We had a truly amazing stay in Warrawee, and really did feel that we couldnβt have hoped for a more perfect swap than this. We definitely would be happy to exchange again any time!
We have just spent a wonderful weekend in Warrawee; simultaneously exchanging with Drew and Kathy. Their home is sensational; fabulous separated spaces and combined delights in the spacious and tasteful living spaces with kitchen and party room. This is a home where a number of people could be at once apart yet united in their collective comfort zones. It would be difficult to summon up any angst or anxiety in a space like this that invites engagement with fun, and a tacit statement is well made about the value of valuing life. Not surprisingly, it's the home of People Like Us founder; Drew. We loved the 'Big Arse TV' and the space to chill. International or interstate exchangers would find that Drew's place is a few minute's walk from Warrawee station as well as being a few minutes by car, (depending on time of day) from the Wahroonga shops with one of our favs: Pastadelli and the Patisserie next door. Or, a few minutes the other way takes you to Turramurra shops. The train gives good access to the city and links to ferries, airport etc. The upper North Shore is a beautiful leafy area with lovely homes and streetscapes within a short trip from the heart of Sydney; travelling across the famed Sydney Harbour Bridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Drew and Kathy's home and recommend it as a serious quality experience. It reinforces our commitment to the concept embodied in the sense of us exchanging with and therefore learning with and from each other, of being glad when we find 'People Like Us' Thanks Drew and Kathy for a lovely experience: "Hey Google! Shout loud applause for Drew and Kathy!"
Drew & Kathy's home is amazing. Located in the beautiful North Shore area of Sydney, this stylish home was extremely comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Loved the kitchen and living area!
It was one of the coldest winter weekends, so we were happy enjoying a coffee, and reading the paper in the warm winter sun, coming through the big back room. We walked to Wahroonga one morning, and Turramurra the next, with very easy access to many shops. As the train station was so close, we took a 10 minute trip to Chatswood for dinner and drinks. We would love to come back to experience more of this beautiful part of Sydney.
My dream ensuite, would be the same as theirs!
Fantastic place to relax outside the hussle and bustle of downtown Sydney yet easy to get around and see everything. Walking distance to local shops and public transport.
The house is stylish, large, super comfy and fully equipped. Drew and family are very hospitable and easy to contact if we had any questions.
Highlights for us were catching the train over the harbour bridge into the city and back! Spectacular view of the harbour if you sit on the upper level! Plus close proximity to Kur-in-gai national park with many amazing bush walks. The Easter egg hunt in the beautiful landscaped backyard was also a winner.
Highly recommend a visit!
We had the pleasure of welcoming Drew and Kathy during their European tour 2022. They are wonderful guests, very upbeat and love discovering the surrounding area. We really enjoyed our conversations, it was nice exchanging thoughts and experiences, with topics ranging from raising teens, Eurovision politics, Covid, to regional cuisines! We had a most wonderful dinner (raclette!) and lunch (crepes!). Lovely to welcome you both, and we hope you had a good rest/relaxing time, all ready for your dream event in Turin. Have a wonderful wonderful trip, may you have the most amazing experiences. Take care, warm wishes from all of us, Wendy, Pierre & Ellen
We were thrilled to host Kathy & Drew !
We had beautiful moments of sharing (I was able to rediscover the famous epic saxo guy from EV π)
Kathy & Drew are easy-going, generous, courteous and their stay will have been far too short.
We are so lucky to be able to count them as friends.
We can't wait to see them again in Australia !!
It's been a great pleasure for us to host Kathy and Drew in April 2022. It was very easy to communicate with them and they left the apartment tidy and clean.
We also had the opportunity to meet.Kathy and Drew in person at the PLU luncheon in Barcelona.
You should not hesitate a second to swap with the Boss!!!
What can I say about this guyβ¦β¦ AMAZING GUEST !!! We really love meeting Drew and Katy in Madrid and was a pleasure to host them in our home.
Unsurprisingly, not only were Drew and Kathy the perfect hosts, they were also the perfect guests. We kept in touch during the exchange, and it was great to hear about the local places they were visiting and the trips they were taking β itβs so nice to hear about the βhitsβ so we can help make recommendations to future guests.
When we returned home we found the house immaculate and perfectly tidy (despite us having told them not to bother wasting precious holiday time with cleaning), and really wouldnβt have known Drew and Kathy had been here, other than the lovely thank you note and gift that they left for us.
Our only regret was that our paths crossed so fleetingly at the beginning of the exchange, meaning that we didnβt get to spend more time chatting and getting to know Drew and Kathy. Hopefully we can put that right next time!
We felt very excited to have Drew and Kathy stay at our place! They left the place spotless and we appreciated the goodbye gift. We are glad you enjoyed the location and would love to welcome you again soon!
Drew is a great communicator: upbeat but always responsive and open. House information provided was clear and informative. We were made to feel very welcome. Our home was left in excellent condition and we're very grateful for the positive posts made on the Facebook group about our home and, especially, about the value and 'quirks' involved in a stay in Newcastle. Many thanks for the exchange.
You may have heard of Drew (PLU Mastermind, Founder) and amazing Kathy. We were honoured to have them stay in our Clunes Cottage, last week.
It's hard to say enough about how fantastic they were, as guests. We didn't feel they were guests, but long time friends, coming to visit.
They are your 5 βstar guests. Fun, funny, appreciative, gracious, generous, interested and easy going.
Our big day out together, was a particular highlight for us, so many stories, so many laughs.
We hope to host in our Melbourne home, one day soon.
We would welcome back Drew and Kathy, anytime!
Thanks for all our goodies too. Very thoughtful.

As you would anticipate, Drew, Kathy and Xena were the perfect home exchangers. They would be welcome in our homes at anytime!
We were so happy we had the pleasure of meeting Drew and Kathy before heading to their place. Communication was very easy, and we knew the exchange was going to be a breeze. On returning home, we wondered if anyone had been here at all, as the place was spotless! So happy to hear that Xena felt comfortable in Pumbaa's kennel, and as the perfect guest, she is welcome anytime. So is Drew & Kathy!!
It was such a pleasure to have Drew and Kathy stay at our place in January, even for such a short period. They are a truly amazing couple: easygoing, flexible, interesting, warm and gentle, grateful and funny too. Fortunately we lived close-by during their stay, so we had lots of contact, both in preactical manners as in fun things to do together. Because their stay ay our place was just the beginning of their first 'european tour' they could only stay for a limited period, and that's something a really regret. I would have loved them to spend a bit more time here, to get to know them even better, to share more stories and live events and to deepen the friendship. It was an immense pleasure having Drew and Kathy as our guests and I can only advice to open your doors to this lovely couple from Sydney. You will have a wonderful experience. This is what home swapping is about: meeting and sharing. Awesome ! Thanks for staying, Drew and Kathy. Welcome always
Drew and his family were easy to host. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet them as I was away during their visit.
Drew and Kathy are famous PLU guests to have stay in your home. They are the top of the list, number one, head honcho kind of exchangers!!! As you would imagine they took exceptional care of our place and treated it just like their own. We were overseas when they visited but they maintained good communication with us from the very first day we joined the site and throughout their trip here. Drew and Kathy even left us a very special gift that fits perfectly into our home vibe! The coasters are still on our lounge room coffee table today! We love them. We would welcome Drew and Kathy back anytime and hope to meet them someday on one of our travels to Sydney.
We stayed 3 nights with Lionnel and Sandrine at their beautiful home in the French Alps in Freterive in May, 2022. We had planning to do this one day since we first met two years earlier just before the pandemic.
Lionnel & Sandrine are very generous and friendly hosts. They made local food for us from local ingredients. Lionnel showed us around the local area and Chambery, and introduced us to neighbours and even the winemaker at the vineyard over their back fence. We felt guilty that we weren't doing anything! They even lent us their car for 3 days to drive up to Lake Leman. Their hospitality was very warmly received. These guys are people you want to meet!
The home itself is hundreds of years old but modern inside, comfortable and well-appointed. It's in the beautiful little village of Freterive. The location is quite magical, with a 2000m mountain seemingly right in the backyard (ok, a kilometre away but it seems impossibly tall!). This is a location for nature lovers and, if that's you, you should definitely offer a swap. I guarantee you'll be in awe. If you can't swap, still make sure to come by and meet Lionnel and Sandrine. They're worth the drive! π
Thank you very much ! Your stay was definitely too short... We were more than pleased to receive you. We look forward to our next meeting, we hope in Australia !
We stayed in Felisa's home in April 2022 and had the pleasure of meeting her and Carlos at a gathering she organised with local PLU's. Felisa is a very thoughtful person who did everything to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Her home is delightful and exactly as described, very clean, full of light and perfect for our stay.
Sant Andreu was a surprising find. We had expected to spent most of our time in the centre of Barcelona but instead found ourselves returning to the buzzy local streets of Sant Andreu many nights to enjoy a drink or something to eat at Versalles.
We highly recommend a stay at Felisa's beautiful home and hope to welcome her to ours one day.
We stayed in Dan's home in Madrid for 4 days in April, 2022 on our big Spanish trip.
Dan's home is well-located and central, only about 500m from the train station, very convenient for us as we had big bags. The building has easy access and has a lift, although the apartment is on the first floor so we only needed it for our bags. There are plenty of cafes in the street. It was a 15-minute walk to the Prado, maybe 20 to Plaza Mayor and Gran Via, but there was also a metro just up the road which will get you there in minutes if you prefer.
The apartment block is older-style and so has its quirks but is comfortable and modern inside, and nicely decorated. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a surprising amount of living space.
Our highlight for Madrid was that we actually got to meet Dan and Eyder for an afternoon at a local bar. They are fun, warm, engaging and very friendly and I'd recommend that you go out of your way to meet them!
A wonderful experience that we'd recommend to anyone in Madrid.
We stayed at Julie's rooftop apartment on our Euro tour in April 2022. We were delighted to find a place in Sevilla since we knew we didn't have so many but, wow, what a great place to stay. Julie's home is right in the middle of a busy pedestrian street so there are a ton of things right on the doorstep. It's just a short walk to the cathedral and everything else we wanted to do, a really great location.
The apartment itself is large, spacious (much more so than we were expecting for such a central location), very clean and exactly as described. The rooftop terrace is a real bonus.
Julie was very responsive and easy to deal with. She met us at the apartment and showed us around and then we met her and David for dinner on our second night. We really enjoyed our time with her and highly recommend reaching out to her for your stay in Sevilla.
We stayed at Sue & Daveβs place in Holt in March-April 2022 after many months of planning. Sue is a great communicator and Dave is a very engaged member of our Facebook community.
Holt is a great little village on the Welsh-English border. Itβs quiet, but it will give you a chance to experience life in a village with everything youβll need. It has a fantastic village shop in a nearby nursery with all sorts of foodstuffs, much of it gourmet. The village has 4 pubs, 2 in the UK and 2 in England. The closest one is a great little neighbourhood pub, saved by a villager from closure a few years back. Our favourite was the Hare, just over the border.
Holt is well-situated for local exploring. The nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was fascinating and well worth a trip. Chester is wonderful. We also visited Liverpool and travelled over to the other side of Wales to Portmeirion, Caernarfon, and all along the northern coast.
The home itself is nothing short of spectacular, in an absolutely beautiful garden setting. We loved just being at home as much as anything else, the home is so lovely. Itβs warm, comfortable and cozy. My favourite place was by the window in the dining room with the heated floor, doing my work while looking over the garden.
Our regret is that I arrived with covid and so could only spend a few minutes with Dave & Sue before they left and headed for our place. Despite that, I already think of them as friends and I have no doubt weβll do it again in future. Very highly recommended!
Sue & Dave are fabulous guests: easy and fun to communicate with, responsive and very organised. They treated our home with great respect and left it in perfect condition, probably even a little cleaner than we left it for them! I have no hesitation in recommending them as exchangers.
Claire & Lloyd have a beautiful, spacious, well-appointed condo right on the river at Robertson Quay in Singapore. The apartment is very comfortable and has absolutely everything you'll need including a fabulous pool.
But you'll want to spend most of your time outside anyway! It's across the river (literally 50 metres across the bridge) to bars, restaurants, absolutely every cuisine you could want. It's a few minutes from Chinatown and Clarke Quay, and a bit further down to Boat Quay. We also walked to Orchard Rd (about 30 mins) and to Marina Bay Sands and the gardens (about 45 mins).
Just fantastic. Thank you so much for having us! β€οΈ
We stayed at Roger & Lynette's home for a long weekend on a simultaneous stay. The home is right on a river in Tighes Hill, a short walk to Hamilton and a slightly longer but easy flat walk into Newcastle. Their home is modern, clean, very comfortable, spacious and has everything you need. They've thought of everything with their home manual and I even picked up some good pointers from it too!
We hadn't been to Newcastle in about 15 years and we've only been the once. Newcastle is a small city 90 minutes north of Sydney and is 20 years into a process of renewal after the steel mills closed. It's done well to retain lots of heritage buildings and blend them with a modernity, particularly along the waterfront in the Honeysuckle area that makes the place feel vibrant. Excellent restaurants, pubs and bars. We should have gone before and we'll definitely go again.
Roger is an excellent communicator and I felt very much at ease with this exchange. I knew what was happening and when, and everything was like clockwork. It was only a weekend but our home was perfectly cared for and neat as a pin when we got home. I can highly recommend Roger and Lynette as exchangers!
We spent a little under a week at Dora's and Gav's place in Clunes. Their home is a beautiful example of a country cottage and very interesting as it's the old Clunes police station, and completely restored by them over the last few years. It's quite incredible to see the original photos and how it's turned out, all done by Gav and his son (with lots of finishing flourishes from Dora!). The home is as described in the listing, very well-presented, spotlessly clean and super-welcoming. You'll love sitting in the garden with a drink in the afternoon!
Everyone visiting Australia should spend a couple of days in Clunes! A big statement, but I think you have to get out of the cities into regional Australia to really understand the country.
Clunes is a small country town. It is probably not the best place for small children who want amusement parks and water slides! Most things were closed on Monday and Tuesday so visiting later in the week would be better.
It's a fascinating place though, the best-preserved gold rush town I've seen. Every building in the main street is original. It really does look like it did 150 years ago (except for the paved road). It has some good local cafes; everything in the butcher came off their farm; the local bakery is fab; they have an excellent local market. Don't miss the Criterion .. the best in town. The area is well worth exploring too, particularly Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and Ballarat. The unmissable thing, and something I would drive another 1000km back for ... see if you can get Gav & Dora to give you a local tour!
I also wrote about a blog about this trip ... https://peoplelikeus.world/blog/what-makes-home-exchangers-different-clunes-trip
We stayed at Natalie's Basin View home for a long weekend. Basin View is about 3 hours from Sydney, depending which way you go. It's a little holiday village on the shore of St George's Basin. The village has a convenience store, a pharmacy, cafe/pizza shop and bottle shop. Sanctuary Point, Vincentia and Huskisson are pretty close by for other stuff.
Natalie's home is small, two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's beautifully presented, really comfortable and has everything you need. It's really clean and well-maintained by a very nice guy we met as we were arriving. It has a fully fenced backyard for your pooch and it's directly across the road from the water. We had regular visits from the local kangaroos on the front lawn!
We absolutely loved Natalie's home and highly recommend it. I look forward to returning the favour and having Natalie and her husband stay at our place!
Donna & Matt are really easy guests. They communicated really well and it was such an easy exchange for us. They waited for us at their place so we could meet before exchanging, and to hand over the keys. That was really nice as otherwise we wouldn't have had a chance to meet them.
We arrived back this afternoon and, apart from the lovely gift that they left us, you'd never even know they were here. The place was exactly as we'd left it (even possibly better!). As if that wasn't enough, we even found out that they had found and rescued a little dog nearby and taken it home to its owner.
Exchange with them! You'll be happy you did! π
For anyone lucky enough to exchange with Donna and Matt, you're in for a treat. Their home is a delightful single-level 4 bedroom home with two separate living areas. It's furnished really tastefully, completely uncluttered, and really comfortable. I need to make special mention of how clean their windows were! π
This was the coldest weekend of the year and yet the place was beautifully warm and we loved sitting out by the pool in the sun of a morning with a coffee. They were nice enough to allow us to bring Xena, our mini-schnauzer, and she loved it, particularly their Pug's kennel. Donna even left a treat for Xena!
The home is in a new estate on NSW's Central Coast, about 50km from Sydney, an hour's drive. It's right next to an AFL park and walking distance from the Bateau Bay Hotel (I recommend the steaks!). We visited a waterfront cafe at The Entrance for breakfast on Saturday and then had toast and coffee at the local surf club on Sunday. The walk along the coast is just spectacular.
Donna & Matt are wonderful, really thoughtful hosts. I highly recommend their home!
I stayed at Klaasβs and Lillianβs place in Bergen for 5 nights in January 2020 while we were doing our first ever Netherlands (and first European) meetup. Bergen is a small town about 30 minutes by train north of Amsterdam and itβs oh, so pretty. We were lucky enough to see it still with Christmas lights just to make it even better. The town has an art gallery / museum which was very impressive for a town of its size. The weekend market was fantastic with loads of tasty cheeses, fish, breads, fruit, meats, etc.
Klaasβs home is typical of the area, Scandinavian almost in design, big windows (which he fastidiously cleans!) to let the light in, has underfloor heating and so is comfortably warm in winter, has a fireplace and a comfy fireside chair. It was so clean that you could eat off the floor (although we resisted!).
Klaas is the perfect host and had thought of everything we may need. He picked us up from the station and, indeed, took us there every time we needed to go. He forbade me from using taxis! π He had made dinner for our first night and left some food and drinks in the fridge for us too. He showed us around the town and we walked to the top of the local βmountainβ to look over the area. He took us to see the inside workings of a working water mill and we even had a personal tour by the resident miller. He also took us to the local cinema in the forest, an absolutely magical experience.
I canβt recommend him, his home and his town highly enough. We liked it so much we even discussed moving there! I know that if you stay with Klaas, youβll love it and, if you have him as a guest, youβll love him!
Although we didn't get to meet Martin on this trip, he was very communicative both on chat and the phone, organised everything for us and provided a great place to stay. Martin has a number of places to stay in Ipswich and, for us, the one he chose for us was excellent. It was clean, very well presented and had everything we could need. Our place was only 1km from town so very conveniently located. We didn't need a car and just walked everywhere.
Ipswich was a really surprising find too. We didn't know much about it but we found a historic town full of nice old buildings, great pubs, an interesting waterfront, an absolutely gorgeous park. I'd recommend it as an alternative weekender and it was only an hour from London on the train.
I've been fortunate enough to meet Chris and Brenda twice now which, given that PLU has only been up and running for less than two years, is a very good effort.
I first met them for a couple of drinks when they were visiting Sydney in early 2019. When I knew our place would be vacant for Christmas 2019, I invited them back knowing what sort of wonderful people they are.
It was a great move. They stayed for two weeks over Christmas and New Year, gave us regular updates and left the place completely spotless. They even went out of their way to replace a rubbishy $10 deck chair that could have been just thrown away!
We had the pleasure of meeting them in the city before they returned home and what was going to be a short evening turned into a looooong one, and we ended up catching the last train home. They're great people. I can't recommend them highly enough.
This was our first PLU exchange, a non-reciprocal with Julie with her staying at our place in April 2019 and us staying at hers in July 2019.
Our stay at her home was delightful. Kiama is a brilliant place to visit on the NSW South Coast, also big enough and close enough to Sydney that there are plenty of good restaurants too. You'll need a car here as it's a little way out of town.
There is an excellent local cafe (recommended by Julie in her home manual, a superb example of what one should leave for their guests) and great local shops within walking distance for everything you're going to need but you will definitely want to go to Kiama too.
Julie's home is described accurately and there was nothing missing. She had gone to a lot of effort with the home manual. We were there in winter and particularly loved the open fire.
Julie, thanks for being our first! You'll always have a place in our hearts for opening our account.
Julie and her family are the very best guests you can imagine. This was our first exchange and Julie was staying with us 3 months before we stayed with her, so we weren't all that sure what to expect.
Julie sent me a couple of updates while we were away, with photos of her enjoying the sun in the backyard. On the day we were to leave, I received a message asking where the mop was. Before I'd had a chance to respond with "please, don't worry about mopping!" she had already done it. The home was left cleaner than our cleaners would leave it and that's not a slight on our cleaners! Julie was just really thoroughly thoughtful.
I'd highly recommend Julie as a guest and they will be welcome back any time.

Our backyard. Enjoy our spa or sit up on the deck and watch the goldfish float around.
Welcome to our home in Warrawee on Sydney's upper north shore.
Our kitchen with a large square bench that's the centre of our family life.
We have goldfish in our pond, a beautiful way to while away an afternoon with a drink in the garden.
Warrawee station is a flat 400m walk from our front door. It's full accessible and trains to the city take about 30 minutes.
Wahroonga village is the next suburb north from Warrawee, about 1km away. About 50 little stores, cafes, a small supermarket, and local services.
Kiplings Garage Bar (https://kiplingsgaragebar.com.au/) is about 700m from our home in Turramurra, a wine bar offering tapas and Australian and international wines.
