Notes
I have been living on Kauai 31 years, 21 years in this home I bought in 2003. I moved here from the Bay area where I lived for many years interspersed with graduate school in Boston, living in Italy and in Mexico and lots of international travel over the years. I am a semi-retired psychotherapist and a glass artist. In 2016 I started to travel again to Europe for longer trips. Last year I was gone 5 months. But this year I decided to spend more time in northern California. I'm starting my trip out in S Utah visiting several national parks there and then flying to Oakland. I have done several house exchanges on another website but because they used guest points due to county restraints I changed to this site this year. I far prefer house exchanges to renting my home out when I go on an extended trip.

Neighbourhood
My house is on across the street of a subdivision in the Wailua Houselots. There is a ball park on one side and a long flag lot behind my property. My house is not part of the subdivision and is set back a bit from the street. A big old mango tree is in my front yard. On one side of my yard is a neighborhood ball park with tennis courts which is mostly very quiet. Sometimes in soccer season you can hear enthusiastic dads rooting for their kids. Behind my property is al long flag lot with the house on the far end. I have lemon, avocado and lychee trees in the yard.
Kauai has one main road that goes around most of the island and we call this two to 3 lane road the highway. That road is .8 mile from my house. There are several restaurants at that intersection and 2 beaches. About a 5-7 minute drive is Lydgate Beach which has a protected area that is always swimmable and safe. there is a walking path there. About 8 minutes through Kapaa there is a beautiful bike and walking path that is next to the ocean and does to Kealia Beach and beyond.
Kapaa has lots of restaurants, 2 grocery stores, coffee shops, a hardware store, post office, a library, drug store, 2 health food stores and lots of shops 2-3 miles from my house.
I am about equidistant from both ends of the highway around the island.
Nearest airport
my house is 15 minutes north of the airport in Lihue.
Getting around
There is a bus at the highway junction (.8 miles plus a block) but you really do need a rental car here. I have a reference for someone who rents older but reliable cars considerably less expensive than the regular rental companies.
