Neighbourhood
Paraparaumu Beach is a small seaside town in the Kapiti Coast, 45minutes drive from Wellington City. Within short walking distance from our home there is beach access, river and nature trail access, a mini supermarket, local raw food coffee shop and takeaway shops. The local area is easily explored by foot or by bike, and we are a short bike ride away from the local weekend market.
Within 10minutes drive are the large supermarkets, shopping mall, doctors and community services such as district library and aquatic centre.
The Kapiti Coast area is suitable for everyone, there are excellent restaurants and boutique shops to explore. A large range of restaurants and local cafes, many with beach views. Excellent playgrounds, and nature spaces for getting the kids exploring. For fitness fanatics we have the gorgeous and challenging Paekakariki escarpment walkway, or Whareroa Farm and Mangaone Walkway.
Local attractions: Kapiti Island, Kapiti Island is one of New Zealand's oldest and most important nature reserves, and a place rich in human history. A day trip or tour can be booked with local providers. Southward Car Museum, which holds over 400 historic vehicles and 3 aircrafts. Nga Manu nature reserve (car required to get there), is a stunning reserve with native birds. They also have a kiwi enclosure, for getting up close to our iconic native bird.
Nearest airport
Kapiti Coast has a small airport with daily flights from Auckland via Air Chathams, or the International Airport in Wellington is an hour away with daily connections all over the country with Air New Zealand and Jetstar Airways.
Getting around
There is a bus stop 4 minutes walk from our home, which connects us to the local rail station for getting into Wellington City. The train ride is very scenic as it follows the stunning coastline into the city, with views out to Kapiti and Mana Islands.
We have all amentiies within 15minutes walk from our home, including mini supermarket, takeaways and a coffeee shop. We are within 10 minutes drive (or bus) to all community services such as doctors and urgent care, large supermarkets, mall/shopping centre, library and aquatic centre.
A car would be preferable for making the most of getting around New Zealand, particularly if wanting to explore the whole Islands. However, the transport links from our home are suitable for exploring the local area and Wellington City.
