General overview

We designed and built our family home in the mountain biking and adventure tourism hot spot of Rotorua to enable us to host friends and family in our comfortable home while enjoying the forest and surrounding lakes on a daily basis. We are just over 2km from the forest and can cycle out the front door, along designated cycle paths to access hundreds of kms of trails for mountain biking and trail running in the Whakarewarewa forest. We often take our young daughter to the kid friendly tracks also where she enjoys running around or riding her bike. We are less than 10 minutes drive to a number of beautiful lakes for safe swimming and lake activities. Rotorua has many amazing trails to explore by foot within close proximity to our place, including, but definitely not limited to, Blue Lake Trail, Lake Tarawera Trail and the Lake Okareka Board Walk. Rotorua is known for it's geothermal activity and there are many options to explore and learn about this through a number of commercial tourist attractions, or for free at local parks. Other tourism opportunities include Maori culture experiences, zip lining, rafting, gondola and luge, jet boating, hot pools and much more.

The space

Our large 4 bedroom home was designed by us with a focus on family friendly open plan living and internal access through a double garage. We have outdoor areas out either side of our kitchen / living area for indoor/outdoor flow and outdoor eating to suit different times of the day and weather. We have a fully fenced section with flat grass areas, a trampoline and swing / slide set making it safe and fun for children. We have 3 large bedrooms (two with queen beds and one with a king single) and an office / 4th bedroom with a foldout double couch. Guests will have access to a weber bbq, Breville coffee machine, mountain bikes and kids bikes, paddle board, kayak and other items could be organised if required.

Guest access

Guests will have access to our entire house during their stay. It is a stand alone home with internal garage access if desired. We are open to non-sim exchanges as have my parents live local to us so we can easily vacate to their place during your stay.

Neighbourhood

We live in a friendly, new subdivision which is continuing to grow with new development (however it is not close to our house so not disruptive at all). It is a nice quiet area with safe footpaths for walking / biking on. Unfortunately there are no cafes / restaurants within close walking distance to our place so a car is recommended to get to these, and other attractions.

Getting to my home

The best way to get to our house is either through flying (airport is 5 mins drive away and easy to get a taxi from). Alternatively driving by private / rental vehicle. There are also options to bus using the Intercity bus service which drops you downtown Rotorua. To get the full experience from your stay a car is recommended (we have an option to give guests access to a subaru outback).

Nearest airport

Rotorua Airport - 5 mins drive

Getting around

We have a supermarket in walking distance from our house (15 mins walk) and a bus stop which takes you into town at the end of our road (2 mins walk from our house). As like in most places in New Zealand, a car is recommended to access a lot of places.

Emily

We are a family of 4 who pre-kids loved international travel and are keen to get back into exploring more of our own backyard and the world through this amazing global community. We had our daughter (now 3 years old) in Canada and now also have a 3 month old son. We can't wait to get exploring as a family and allowing others to see and experience our magical part of the world, Rotorua, New Zealand.
