General overview

We have a large, beautiful house in a nice, quiet neighborhood with an enclosed sunny garden. Beautiful environment. 6 minutes by bike or car to a swimming lake. Other lakes for sailing are also nearby. Very central. 30 minutes to the North Sea beach of Scheveningen. 30 minutes by car to Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam. 45 minutes to Amsterdam. There is a train station 20 minutes by car or bicycle in Gouda and Bodegraven.

The space

Our house is 190 m² (2000 ft²). We have a spacious living room with seating for at least 10 people. There is a large screen television (75 inches, not yet in the photos) with Netflix. There is a separate toilet in the hallway. Next to the kitchen there is a living room with a 55 inch television. There is a sofa for 3 people and a dining table with chairs for 6 people Our kitchen is fully equipped. The oven can also function as a microwave. There is a separate microwave and dishwasher. We have a normal coffee maker. We don't drink coffee ourselves, but there is always coffee ready for the guests. The kitchen has a refrigerator with a large freezer compartment. There is a refrigerator in the shed. We always leave space in the refrigerator and freezer for guests. There are 2 folding bicycles and 3 regular bicycles in the shed. The washing machine and dryer are also available. There are 2 seating areas in the garden. There are 10 garden chairs, a large table and a smaller round one. There are 2 fixed parasols, so there is always shade. In summer there are raspberries, strawberries and mulberries, which can be eaten. There are 2 bathrooms on the 1st floor: A large one with bath and shower, 2 sinks and a toilet with bidet function. A smaller one with shower, sink and toilet. The master bedroom has 2 separate beds, 2x 90x 200 centimeters. There are 2 separate bedrooms, both with a bed of 90 x 200 centimeters and a good trundle bed of 90 x 200 centimeters. There is a fourth bedroom with 1 bed, 90x200 centimeters. 2 bedrooms have a TV. In the attic there is a large room with 2 dormer windows. There is a sofa that can be folded out into a good bed of 120 x 200 centimeters. And it comes with a separate mattress measuring 85 x 185 centimeters. There is a television with which you can play games on the Xbox and PlayStation 2. There are many games. There is an exercise bike, weights, a balance ball and an abdominal trainer for abdominal muscle training, so it's a small gym. We also use the attic as storage for my English books.

Guest access

3 floors (ground floor, first floor, second floor) There is an open spiral staircase. We place gates in front of it when we exchange with a family with small children. There is free parking in our driveway and on the street.

Notes

We are two retirees who like to travel. Theo was born in 1951. He was Director of the Gold and Silver Federation. He was a member of the Rotary. He is now a member of Past Rotary. Ada was born in 1956. She worked as a librarian at a large secondary school in the Media Library. She was a member of Annclub Reeuwijk. We sometimes travel with our adult children and my sister-in-law. We are interested in big cities and museums and culture. We love animals, but do not have any pets ourselves. Pets, if well behaved, are welcome in our home. The entire house is equipped with mosquito nets, awnings and blackout curtains. Most television sets have cable television and offer Dutch, Belgian, German and French television. We can watch BBC1, 2, 3, 4, World and Entertainment. Downstairs there is Netflix on 2 televisions. We have a cupboard full of board games. We are retired ourselves, but we still have a cot, 2 high chairs, child seats on the front and back of the bicycle and toys. If more is needed, we can borrow it. We have nice neighbors. There is good WiFi throughout the house. We like simultaneous exchanges. All North Sea beaches are sandy beaches. Most beaches have restaurants. Scheveningen is a city beach, with many restaurants. We can care for and cuddle your animals, provided they can be left alone all day. We prefer not to walk dogs. I like plants. We have exchanged more than 40 times, often via Homelink https://homelink.org/en/homeexchange/Netherlands/amsterdam%252c-40km-sw/2027 We also recently exchanged via a Facebook group.

Beware of cyclists, they are everywhere and often have no lights at night. Trains run regularly from Gouda station, but these are quite expensive. Parking is very expensive in the Netherlands, especially in Amsterdam and Utrecht, but still cheaper than traveling by train with 2 or more people. In Amsterdam, park your car in P+R RAI and take metro line 52 (direction North) and get off at Rokin or Central Station. If you return to the P&R by metro, the parking fee is only €1. You travel with a public transport card that you can buy in the parking garage. The others could use a pin. Cycling routes: In the Netherlands we have a system that allows you to cycle from one numbered junction to another, called 'junctions'. You see them on most maps. There is also a phone app called 'cycling route network'. Please note: In the Netherlands you cycle on the road or on a special cycle path. It is prohibited to drive in pedestrian areas or on the sidewalk. We do not recommend cycling in Amsterdam or Utrecht! Try Reeuwijk and Gouda first!
