Neighbourhood
The apartment is situated in a quiet neighborhood with a blend of apartment buildings, townhouses and villas.
Lots of walking and cycling paths lead to hidden playgrounds and green areas.
Nearby there is a small shopping and service center called Mjóddin where you can find a cinema, pharmacy, supermarket, post office, bakery, flower-shop and some fast-food options.
It also has a bus terminal with good connections to all areas in the city and other parts of Iceland as well. Because of this the restaurants, cafés, nightlife, museums and shopping of downtown Reykjavík are easily accessible even though the neighbourhood is far from downtown.
If you are interested in shopping there is a shopping mall, Smaralind, only 2 km away.
Nearby there are severeal wonderful outdoor areas, some within walking distance and others within easy cycling/driving distance.
I also recommend you try out the two very nice outdoor pools that are in the area (geothermally heated and warm all year round, both with multiple hot jacuzzis).
Nearest airport
The international airport is 40-60 minutes away. The domestic airport is 15 minutes away.
Getting around
Easy access by bus; routes 2, 12 and 4 stop close by and connect to the bus terminal in the service center in Mjodd. Bus nr. 2 takes you to Kringlan shopping center. Bus nr. 12 takes you to the city center (e.g. stops outside Harpa Reykjavík concert hall) in 20 minutes. Bus nr 2 will take you to Smaralind (nearest and largest shopping center) in 15 minutes.

Gerda and Bjarni
We are Gerda (50) and Bjarni (57). Gerda is a quality assurance manager, and Bjarni works in construction.
We love PLU and simultaneous exchanging, but unfortunately it's hard for us to exchange our home now since our young adults need some serious convincing to travel with us. To further complicate matters they don't want to leave the house when we travel. This is full on mutiny!!!
What to do??? Well, we have two globes that we are willing to use while we suffer through this period :) Please tempt us! We are open to everything, but our focus is mostly on Europe, Scandinavia, and not too warm places.
If you long for a simultaneous exchanges (no globes) you will have to tempt the young people in our house!! :) They are all for a dream house in a warm and exotic location preferably with a pool.
We promise to be respectful of your home, and to take very good care of it in your absence.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
