General overview
Helena Montana is the state capital and a historic mountain town known for it's wonderful mining history. In the 1800's Helena once had the most millionaires per capita in the USA due to the gold rush and now has a wonderful area of old historic mansions. Our house is near the mansion area as well as steps from Mt. Helena, which has hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. Our house is in one of the most desirable areas atop a hill looking out to the town, valley and nearby mountains. It is a short walk to downtown shops, bakeries, breweries, distillery, museums, and restaurants. Near Helena is the famous Missouri River, a world renowned trout fishery. There are many smaller beautiful trout fishing rivers nearby as well.
Helena is near three beautiful lakes and is a destination for boaters and vacationers. Montana is cowboy country and full of the old west glory with many nearby cattle ranches, mining ghost towns and summer rodeos.
Helena is also a practical launching site to many famous areas including Yellowstone National Park which is a 3 hour drive and Glacier National Park is a 4 hour drive.
The space
The kitchen/dining and living room are open and all look out to a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The kitchen is large and accommodates many people. There is an outside deck adjoining the area to dine during Montana's wonderful summer and autumn days. The master and one additional bedroom are on the main floor. There is an additional bedroom on the main floor which has been converted to an office/studio. This area could be used as a bedroom in a pinch with an inflatable mattress which we could provide. The basement is accessed by a set of stairs and has an additional bedroom, family room, laundry and workshop as well as access to the fenced yard and garden.
Guest access
There are several steps up to the main entry and stairs to the basement bedroom, laundry and family room. It would be difficult to access the house with a wheelchair but we might be able to figure out a solution if that is an issue.

Neighbourhood
One of the most desired neighborhoods in Helena, atop a hill, next to Mt. Helena City Park and very close to two trailheads. We have very friendly neighbors, all with nicely cared for homes. There is a city walking path right in front of our house that is well used by walkers and joggers. We have lots of deer wander through our yard as well as fox and lynx. We saw a moose and calf walk through our yard this summer! We are one block from a park for children to play. Grocery store is down the hill about 5 minute car drive.
Getting around
Bicycle is great if you are in shape, you can easily walk downtown. You will need a car for groceries and to access all the wonderful sites nearby.

Ruth
We are retired professionals-- Tom is a Veterinarian and Ruth is a Registered Nurse. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful area with instant access to the outdoors. We love to float the many rivers nearby, fish, hike, ski, bicycle and garden. We think of ourselves as "travelers" rather than tourists and enjoy staying in small communities or villages and learn about the locals, where they eat and the places they like to visit.
Fortunately, we have a mountain cabin that we can escape to so our home is available for non-simultaneous exchanges most of the time.
We are responsible home owners and would also treat your home as if it were ours. We enjoy meeting new people and hope we can host you and your family!
"Would love a 2 week stay in a small village with good train access! Wouldn’t you love to come to Montana??!!"

Our home overlooks Helena and sits at the base of Mount Helena City Park. Mount Helena City Park is a 620-acre park which encompasses Mount Helena which rises 5,468 feet above sea level, overlooking the city of Helena 1,300 feet below. The park includes six trails up and around the mountain, some of which connect to other trails in nearby Helena National Forest. A haven for mountain bikers and hikers!!
