We've just had the most amazing weekend get away to Sara and familys home in Växsjö. I reached out to Sara this Summer as I was looking for an exchange home within a short driving distance that was also pet friendly. To my great joy, Sara responded positively about an exchange and we finalized it pretty fast.
Unfortunately I could only stay a weekend due to lack of vacation, whereas is was school holiday in Sweden the week following the weekend Casper and I would go. So we agreed that they could stay for a week if they wanted to.
We left early Friday after work and drove to Växsjö and arrived just in time to meet and greet Sara, Pär, Siri and Hjalmer before they set course for FRederiksværk :-)
Saras home is very spacious and super cosy and we felt right at home. They has also left us a yummy welcome pressie, which was so kind of them.
We enjoyed so much our weekend in their home and area. They live around the corner from a nature area, where we both enjoyed walking the dogs as well as went for a run. They are close the the Teleborg Park area, which was absolutely stunning all dressed in Foliage colours. We went by Teleborg Castle, which truly looked like a fairy tale castle (a hotel now).
We also went shopping nearby and found some good deals as the Swedish krone is lower than the Danish atm. In the afternoon we walked the dogs along the water into the city to have a look around.
Sunday we went for a run in the Bokhult Woods behind the house and then drove to Kronoberg Castle ruin and walked around Hissingö, whcih is right next to the ruin. We timed it perfectly s it started to rain when we got back to the car. But lovely both by the ruin as well as walking along the path by the water, again enjoying the scenery with the stunning Fall colours, even with grey weather.
So nice to come back to the house, enjoy a late lunch before packing up, cleaning and returning to Denmark.
We would have LOVED to stay longer as we enjoyed ourselves so much and there were many more things we would have liked to see and do. But hopefully we'll get the opportunity to come back again....
Sara was a delight to communicate with and we kept in touch during the exchanges, updating eachother on what we'd been up to and such.
Coming home to a very tidy and clean house and my pets very well taken care of was an extra treat.
So guys, do yourself a favour and exchange with Sara and family - you wont regret it!!!
Sara’s home was even more beautiful than in the pictures and exactly as described. We felt welcome and comfortable from the very beginning. It was especially thoughtful of them to prepare apple juice from their own garden for us. Everything was well thought out: plenty of bedding, towels, and storage space for our clothes. The bedroom could be wonderfully darkened, allowing us to sleep well despite the long summer days. The comfortable bed, the lovely garden, and the wonderful conservatory all contributed to our well-being. The neighbors were extremely nice and helpful, and we felt very safe in the beautiful residential area. The lake, beaches, and downtown were only a few minutes' walk away, and we greatly enjoyed walking around the lake and exploring the beaches.
Sara made a great effort to provide tips that matched our interests. Thanks to her recommendations, we discovered many things we wouldn't have found otherwise. The day trip to Öland was a highlight. The house guide was also very helpful and contained all the important information, leaving no questions unanswered.
Our time in Sweden, especially during the Midsommar festival, was unforgettable. Sara gave us great tips where to go.
Thanks to the well-equipped kitchen, we were able to cook for ourselves and try out Swedish recipes and even had a BBQ in the garden.
Our home exchange experience was simply wonderful. Communication with Sara was always very friendly and informative, and their responses were quick and clear. They were absolutely reliable and adhered to all agreements, making the exchange very smooth.
When we returned home, we found our house clean and tidy, just as agreed. They were very respectful of our property overall.
Upon our return, we found beautiful flowers, lovely words, an exciting report on their experiences, and even a Swedish book to boost our motivation to learn Swedish.
We had a fantastic exchange with this family and can warmly recommend them for future home exchanges.
A previous exchanger called Lone the queen of exchange, I agree. She is nice, structured and quick. We are more than happy with our autumn holiday thanks to Lone.
We had 4 lovely nights in her house, accompanied by Holger the cat and his outdoor catfriends. If you’re a cat lover, seeing 5-7 cats line up for breakfast everyday is fantastic.
Lone was generous enough to extend our stay even though she her self couldn’t stay at ours more than 2 nights. She left us two interesting local beers (inspired us to shopping!) and homemade bred and cake. Very kind.
The house and neighbourhood is great, walking distance to Frederiksvaerk and the lake. We spent the first day exploring those. The second day doing a road trip to Esrum Abbey, Gilleleje by the sea, finishing of in Hundested where we had dinner at the local brewery. The third day checking out two of many royal castles, beautiful Frederiksborgs castle and Fredensborg castle . On our way back to Sweden we visited an old favourite Louisiana Art museum, not to be missed with stunning gardens towards the sea.
Don’t hesitate to exchange with Lone!
We got to meet Lone and Casper and the 2 senior dogs when they arrived at our house before us leaving. There was no doubt about the professionalism in exchanging and their kind nature.
Before, during and after exchanging everything was nice and correct. We enjoyed photos of what they explored in our area.
Our house was left in perfect condition, even with some treats for us, amazing!
Don’t hesitate to exchange with Lone.
Annika ‘s home is perfect for an exchange. We had everything we needed. It is easy to feel at home in the flat directly, equipment, information and instructions was excellent.
We were welcomed by a meal and games for the kids, perfect and very thoughtful. Annika provided lots of info about the area, hikes and sights. Communication before, during and after exchanging has been easy and very nice.
We went by train from Sweden to Kirchheim and used the area’s public transportation for all excursions. Easy and efficient, no car needed! The area has lots of things to offer.
I recommend exchanging with Annika & Martin.
Annika & Martin took excellent care of our house and garden. They even washed the linen they had used and left the house spotless.
