Neighbourhood

We are in Boerum Hill, described by New York Times* as "a village in the city", with many Michelin recommendations.** and there is a lot to do within our little neighborhood itself,*** which is super walkable.**** We're on the edge of Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights, and a nice walk to DUMBO and Park Slope (and other neighbourhoods, too). Our street is in a historic district so all the homes maintain their traditional character and our neighbors are friendly. There are so many parks nearby and Brooklyn is the land of playgrounds! *https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/02/realestate/boerum-hill-brooklyn.html **https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/article/travel/neighborhood-guide-downtown-brooklyn-boerum-hill ***https://theculturetrip.com/usa/new-york/articles/the-best-things-to-do-and-see-in-boerum-hill/ ****https://www.thetravel.com/is-brooklyn-walkable/

Getting around

On our block is an excellent coffee shop/Turkish cafe, a local ice cream shop, a hair salon, a florist, a “bodega” (what New Yorkers call small grocery shops open around the clock), and a pub - so you can probably survive a week without leaving the block! But you should venture off .... and we are close walking distance to so many restaurants (Smith Street and Court Street are both "high streets" with tons of amenities), markets, cafes, bookstores, clothing stores, etc. We love how walkable our city is and think it's the best way to discover New York. From our house is a 15-minute walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park (gorgeous waterfront park with a ferry to Manhattan/Governors Island) or 25 minutes walk to Prospect Park. We do NOT recommend a car to get around unless you're going to the outer reaches of Brooklyn like Coney Island. And even then, the subway (or Uber) is super convenient. We are extremely close to the F/G Trains (on our corner), and a close walk to most of the other major train lines, also to the ferry. Biking is another option and Citibikes (NYC's shared bicycle program) is all over the place, including on the next block.
