General overview
We started building our own small home in 2020. With 2 small kids (0 and 1) it is quite a slow progress, but finally it is getting closer to being finished! The wooden interior makes it super cosy, it has beautiful views surrounded by native bush and birds and it has direct access to the Port Hills, where there are plenty hiking and mountain biking trails.
The space
There is an open plan living with the kitchen divided by a big island bench. We have one toddlers high chair. There are beautiful views of Christchurch and the surrounding native bush.
In the back is the kids bedroom with a climbing wall. Also the master bedroom with access to the sunny deck. In between is a tiled bathroom with heated floors and a double shower.
Outside is the fenced decking area and a fenced yard. Seperately is a private garden with a swing chair. Everything is north facing, which means it is warm and sunny.
Guest access
The house has one parking spot which you could use if we are not here. To get up to the house you will have to take 6 steps. The house is splitlevel so there is a step to get up to the bedrooms.
Notes
You might be able to use our town bikes, surfboards and car if you would like.

Neighbourhood
Our home is in a quiet neighborhood at the foot of the Port Hills. You can access biking and hiking trails straight from our house. Also by foot you can reach a few awesome cafes, local shops and a supermarket. By bike you will get to Christchurch town centre in 15 minutes. Alternatively, there is also a busstop ~5 minutes away that will get you to town in 15 minutes. By car you will get to a variety of local beaches and swimspots in 10-20 minutes.
We are close to a school with lots of outdoor play options as well as different local parks and swimming pools.
Christchurch is a great base to explore the South Island, within 2 hours you have access to numerous skifields. In 3 hours you reach the Westcoast. In 4 hours you get to Aoraki/Mt Cook Village which has access to New Zealands tallest mountains.
Getting to my home
You can get to Christchurch by direct international flights. There is a bus from the airport that goes to town and there are regular busses to the busstop close to our home.
There is also a train from Picton. We love biking and walking, but car travel is still most popular around here and so it is probably easest to travel around by car.
Nearest airport
Christchurch Airport, 15 km.

We are an adventure family(Nl/NZ) who love to travel. We will be in Europe with our 2 girls (0 and 1 year) May-August 2023 and are planning a roadtrip around the Netherlands/Belgium/France/Germany.
Our house will be free for visitors during this time. The rest of the year we are interested in reciprocical exchanges within New Zealand.
