General overview
Our house is situated on beautiful Waiheke Island, 30 minutes by ferry from downtown Auckland. Waiheke is consistently voted one of the top ten island destinations in the world! It is close to Auckland but seems like a world away as it is so peaceful and serene. It is famous for its vineyards, olive groves and stunning scenery. Our house is only 50 metres from the waters edge and has gorgeous views. We have three sunny outdoor decks and the house is very well furnished and equipped. We have three adult kayaks and one child's kayak for your use! Waiheke has many local artists and craftspeople as well as top class restaurants and cafes. There are over 50 vineyards producing medal winning wine, olive groves producing exceptional olive oil, and many local food artisans.
The space
Our house is a modern split level home with polished wooden floors in the living areas. We have two bedrooms and a mezzanine area with a third bed. The master bedroom has a queen bed and opens onto outdoor decking. It has lovely water views. The bed has a new pillow-top mattress and is very comfortable! The second bedroom has twin beds and also opens to the outside decking with water views. The third bed is a brand new king size which can be split into two singles. This is in a mezzanine area up from the living room. It is open to the living room but doesn’t affect day to day living. The kitchen/dining room is open plan and very well equipped. A new oven and cooktop were installed last year. We have an espresso machine and just about every utensil you could ever need! This area also opens to an outside seating area. The living room is very comfortable and sunny with new couches and opens to yet another outdoor area. In the dining room there is seating for 6, plus a small children’s table and chairs. The house was renovated last year so is in top condition. We have two separate outside seating/dining areas and a gas barbecue. We have an internal access garage plus parking for one more car. There is a ping pong table you can open up in the garage! We have quite a large garden with lemon and olive trees and lots of lavender!
Guest access
Our house is on 4 levels from the garage to the mezzanine, although day to day living is over 2 levels. It may not be suitable for anyone with severe disabilities. Our grandchildren have used the house since they were babies but if you have small children there are stairs and it may not be suitable. Also please be aware that part of the garden is fenced but it is not a childproof fence. There is a stream at the bottom of the garden, on the opposite side of the fence. The access to the beach is also not fenced, although it is not obvious to children that it is possible to go to the beach that way. For all these reasons we do recommend the house for 5 and up.
Notes
Our little corner of Waiheke is very peaceful and relaxed. We enjoy sitting on one of our three sunny decks with a glass of local wine and a bowl of locally grown olives! The views are beautiful and it is good to get out on the water in the kayaks. We have a sea kayak, a fishing kayak (byo rods) and a sit on kayak for your use.We also have a small kayak suitable for children (weight limit 50kg). We are close to the local golf course and tennis clubs and there are many walking tracks through protected reserves in the area. You can access the beach directly from our back garden down a bushy track, but the track is not on our land and is often poorly maintained. It is a rocky beach but you can swim. It is very quiet and peaceful where we are and our garden is home to many native birds. We are not walking distance to shops but if you don’t have a car there is a very good local bus service. We are not short of excellent food, coffee or wine on Waiheke and there are many arts and crafts. Swimming is good from our beach although it is not sandy. We are sometimes lucky enough to see dolphins, orcas or little blue penguins! If you are a keen fisherman, take out the fishing kayak and catch snapper for dinner!

Neighbourhood
Waiheke is consistently voted one of the top ten island destinations in the world for a reason! We have beautiful unspoilt beaches, amazing vineyards, incredible food in spectacular settings and an incredibly diverse mix of people. There are many different nationalities who call Waiheke home, including artists, craftspeople and musicians.
Getting to my home
Our nearest international and domestic airport is Auckland. To reach the island you will then need to either take the passenger ferry from downtown Auckland or the car ferry either from the city or Half Moon Bay in East Auckland. If money is no object you can take a helicopter!
Getting around
We recommend a car for really getting the best out of the island. However there is a very good bus service and the nearest bus stop is less than 100m.
