Neighbourhood
Please NOTE the house isn't technically situated INSIDE the Paris boundaries or where it is shown on the map. Google VILLE D'AVRAY and you will see it is a smart leafy neighbourhood on the OUTSKIRTS of Paris, a mere 25 minute train ride (WALK 7 mn. to the station) which my second daughter has taken every school day for years.
The VILLAGE/borough is famous for its Ponds (remember the 1962 film "Sundays and Cybèle"). A few famous people spent some time here, such as Queen Marie-Antoinette, who used to stop over to have a drink of water from the 'Fontayne du Roy', on her way to Versailles. Boris Vian the writer and saxophone player, and violin player Yehudi Menuhin both lived in our street, and French actress Isabelle Huppert (beaming President of the 2009 Cannes Film festival and 2017 winner of the a Golden Globe for Best Actress) was brought up not far from our house.
Life here is peaceful and cosy, as you can easily WALK to the shops or to the MARKET, past charming ANTIQUARIANS and a scrumptious CHEESE SHOP, or patronize one of the local RESTAURANTS (French crêpes, Moroccan, Italian, French Cuisine). There's a number of pleasant WALKS starting on our doorstep and then you can relax and cook or grill something on the BBQ or enjoy a meal at one of the delicious restaurants nearby. We are only a few minutes' train ride to downtown PARIS, where you can make the most of visits and great experiences on top of the Eiffel Tower or walking down the Champs Elysées, to name but two. But once you get back home it's always a great relief to recline on one of our deckchairs in the patio, or sit in front of the fireplace, and forget the hustle and bustle of the City of Light!
VERSAILLES and its famous Chateau are only a 15 minute drive away and DISNEYLAND Paris theme park is about one hour's drive.
And for SHOPPING sprees we are very close (10 mn by train) to a MALL ('Les 4Temps' at La Défense) with all the usual high street brands, a supermarket , cinemas and nice places to grab something to eat ;-)
Getting around
Easy walk to grocery store, bread (boulangeries), pharmacy, antiquarians, Asian deli. Easy 10 mn train ride to La Défense big shopping mall. 10 mn car ride to typical French supermarket.
