General overview

Come enjoy a bit of aloha in this three-story mountain cabin! This wonderful home is located 5 minutes away from beautiful and popular Boone. Even though it is within close proximity to town, you'll feel like you're in your own private forest. Enjoy sitting out on the covered porch, relaxing by the firepit, or wandering the backyard. There is even a treehouse in the back, perfect for little explorers. A short drive puts you at some truly incredible hikes, restaurants, and entertainment spots. Your trip can absolutely be as busy or as relaxing as you wish! See why so many people love this small town and come back to visit again and again. Because of our family's island heritage, you'll find touches of our culture sprinkled throughout the house. We hope that this creates an air of relaxation and comfort for you. It is an older home, so there are some quirks and charm, but it is clean and cozy. Our home is called Ohana House because we want all who stay here to feel connected as part of our family, even if only for a short time. Mahalo for your consideration!

The space

This is a three story home in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The main level has two bedrooms and one bath. There is a king bed in one room and two twins in the other. The upper level contains a loft space with a desk and kids crafting area. The upper bedroom contains a double bed and is currently used as a sewing workshop, but most of the equipment can be cleaned out prior to your arrival. The lower level is actually a full private suite, complete with bathroom, kitchen (contains a midi-sized fridge), the laundry, and a queen bed. It has its own entrance and can be used for hospitality stays while we are home in the upper levels. The garage area is not suitable for car use, and instead is currently used for storage, our small workout area, and piano. Please feel free to use any of the equipment or piano! This is an older home, so not everything is up to date. But it is a great place to relax, unwind, and enjoy a getaway in a gorgeous location!

Guest access

There are three levels. The basement level suite does not have any stairs, except for a small step into the home. It is accessed via the lower driveway. The main level can be accessed through the upper driveway and likewise has a step into the home. The upper level is accessed by a beautiful, but potentially precarious, spiral staircase. This level is not recommended for anyone who may have mobility issues, including young children. There is parking for several cars. Generally, the upper driveway will be empty and our small Fiat will be left in the lower driveway with plenty of room for multiple vehicles.

Notes

The home has one thermostat, located on the main level. Because of this, temperatures vary between the three levels. (One of the quirks of an older cabin!) However, this is not a big issue. The basement level has both a fan and a heater, both of which prove to manage the temperature very well when needed.

We are a travel-loving ohana of four residing in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We have lived many places all across the United States and recently spent nine months living in Northern Spain. Paul is a professor of Spanish and linguistics at the local university, and Jessica is a work-from-home seamstress. Our daughters are kind, adventurous, and tidy, and just as excited as we are to see where our PLU journeys take us!
