Our home is on the first floor of a Victorian with a huge room (900 Square feet) in the basement (you do have to go through the common area to get to the basement room but the room is private with a lock). Our condo has lovely vintage features but has been updated including recently rehabbed main bathroom and kitchen and updated heating and ac.
The space
We have two bedrooms and two baths on the first floor; the main bedroom has a queen sized bed and a fireplace. The other bedroom is used as my study but has an American leather queen sleep sofa. There is a fireplace in the dining room and the kitchen is eat in. The basement room is more modern than the first floor and decorated in a colorful funky style with plenty of natural light. It has a second sleep sofa, a TV, a Peloton and a second refrigerator. We have exclusive use of the front porch AND we have a private side porch with wicker seating, a dining table and a grill. We have two off street parking spaces, with a charger for our EV, although parking is quite easy in our part of Boston.
Guest access
6 steps to the front door and four from the back door. About 8 steps to get to the basement room.
Notes
I love to cook so we have great appliances (e.g. an induction stove, a fancy blender, a Kitchen Aid etc) and tons of spices and condiments (e.g. 4 kinds of soy sauce) although there are plenty of restaurants walking distance from our apartment and hundreds in the Boston area.

Neighbourhood
Roslindale is the best neighborhood in the City of Boston. It combines city and suburban amenities. There is plenty of greenery and parking is easy. Our condo is a seven minute walk to the center for Roslindale - Roslindale Square - which has a small, well stocked supermarket, a seafood store, a pharmacy, a butcher, a Brewery (really good) and multiple restaurants, including Sophia's Grotto which is often described as having one of the nicest patios in Boston. When it's warm out, there are musicians playing in the alley way where the Brewery, a wine store and several restaurants are; a couple of the restaurants have live music inside when it isn't warm. We also have the best farmers market in Boston. The commuter rail to downtown Boston is 7 minutes away in the Square. We are also a seven minute walk - in a different direction - to the beautiful Arnold Arboretum. We are literally across the street from Fallon Field which has an incredible playground, a baseball diamond, basketball courts, a tennis court and a small hockey ring,
We are two minutes by car from West Roxbury with a huge grocery store and many restaurants and 5 minutes by car from the hipster neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. We are 15 minutes away from Fenway which is the home of the Red Sox and also full of bars and restaurants.
We are about 15 minutes away from the Museum of FIne Arts and the Isabel Stewart Gardner Museum.
We are 20 minutes from the Back Bay full of beautiful brownstones and tons of shopping and dining, especially on Newbury Street. We are about 20 minutes from other parts of the heart of downtown Boston. You could walk the Freedom and the cobblestone streets of Beacon Hill. In the North End you can see Paul Revere's House, the Old North Church and dine at one of the hundreds of great Italian restaurants. In the Seaport district you can go to the Institute of Contemporary Art and a dart bar or dine overlooking the water.
If you have a car or use ours, you are about half an hour from the quaint towns of Lexington and Concord where you can see more Revolutionary War sites. You are about an hours drive from the beautiful towns of Rockport, Marblehead and Salem (which has the hokey Witch Museum but also the fabulous Peabody Essex Museum).
And there is so much more within an hour of our condo.
Nearest airport
Logan Airport is about 30 minutes away.
Getting around
As noted above, you can walk to a grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants and take the train to downtown Boston. If you have a car, or use ours, there are many other places you can travel such as Lexington and Concord, Rockport and Salem, etc.

My husband and I are empty nesters. We are both lifelong social justice people; we both are trained as lawyers although I have worked as an academic administrator and a nonprofit manager for most of my career. We love to travel but don't have a big budget because we have never worked in for-profit institutions. But that's fine as I enjoy the challenge of planning reasonably priced trips many of my best experiences have been through finding adventures. Although we are both pescatarians, my husband and I love eating local cuisine. One of our best experiences was a walking food tour - on my 60th birthday - in Hanoi with a group from around the world.
