General Overview
Large (7bedroom, 3 bath) house on nearly 60 acres of land in the Berkshires. House was built with barn beams and we call it The Barn. Filled with quirky touches such as a ladder turned into a window and a cathedral ceiling living room.
The Space
This is a family vacation home that was built with barn beams and on a barn scale but that’s been added onto over the years. There is a mudroom as the main entrance. The first floor common areas is basically one big area broken up by a giant fireplace made out of stones rim our land. The living room has a ceiling and glass windows that are 3 stories high. The view is down to our small pond.
There is a screened in porch for dining off the regular dining room. The kitchen has a small cook island, a cook top, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher etc.
There are 3 rooms with double and full beds on the first floor and two bathrooms.
On the second floor there are two bedrooms, one with a bunk bed and one with twin beds. The steps leading to this room are steep but there are treads and and a railing.
A spiral staircase leads to an internal balcony and there are two more bedrooms off the balcony - one with twin beds and one with a double bed. - and a full bathroom next to the double bedroom.
Guest Access
There are about four step leading to each of the front doors and their are steep steps or a spiral staircase inside leading to four of the seven bedrooms . Three bedroom are on the first floor.
Notes
This is a country house. The furniture and the dishes and silverware are mismatched. Theres no TV. It’s down a dirt driveway.
If we have not been there for a while there maybe dust, some cobwebs and even a few mouse turds. You can have it cleaned in advance but we’d ask for the cleaning fee to be paid by you.
While I had my small children there, if you have small children you should note the steep internal stairs and spiral staircase.

Neighbourhood
Becket is not super touristy. But we are only a mile from the famous Jacob’s Piklow Dance Festival. The iconic Dream Away lodge is also in Becket. There’s a lake called Center Pond with a town beach and other places to swim besides our own small pond.
We are about 20 minutes from Lee with a giant grocery store and many restaurants.
We are about 25 minutes from Lenox with Tanglewood, a fret bookstore and many more restaurants. We are about half an hour from Stockbridge with summer theater, the Norman Rockwell Museum, a cute sculpture park annd more. And er are about 45 minutes from Great Barrington.
There are too many wonderful outdoor to catalog but they include hiking the Tyringham Cobble and monument mountain and Monument mountain, seeing the waterfalls at Chesterfield Gorge, scheme and Bash Bish and the Berkshire Botanical Gatden. And of course the Berkshire are great for leaf peeping especially in October.
Getting to my home
You will need a car to get to our house and get around . Our house is down a long dirt driveway.
Nearest airport
Albany is the closer
Getting Around
Again, you will need a car. The nearest true grocery store is 15/20 minutes away.
Alexa was a great guest! Communicative- even had a couple great tips for future PLU’s (thank you!). Left our apartment in fantastic shape- thanks so much!
Unfortunately this exchange did not go ahead due to the sad passing of my father. Alexa was very understanding when I let her know he was end of life with short notice. We would absolutely love to stay at Alexa's place at some point and Alexa and her family are always welcome at our place.
Alexa's home is perfect, we lived our american dream there ! Very good neighbourhood, just in front of a park, perfect for kids !
Alexa is always available for advices. I would love to come back one day !
We truly enjoyed our stay at Alexa’s home in Roslindale. Just outside the city it was a quiet respite with easy access to attractions. We mostly drove in to town, but did take an uber to a red socks game. The house had plenty of room for my family of four. We appreciated Alexa’s hospitality and the great communication.
My family of four just got back from staying at Alexa’s home and we could not have asked for a more lovely stay! My family plus my parents stayed- the home is spacious and very clean. We were able to be together but also have space!
The hi-light of the trip for my 4 and 6 year olds was the amazing park directly across the street, endless fun- we made sure to visit for a bit each day between activities and site seeing- pure happiness for them!
Ease to park a car, proximity to attractions and restaurants, and ability to spread out while in the home made this a perfect long weekend trip for us. Alexa was also helpful throughout the trip answering questions and providing info on the area. Thanks again!
We had a great stay with Alexa and Roger! They are great hosts, very welcoming and communicative and always ready to give good advice! What a pleasure to have met them. We will of course stay in touch! THANKS
Thanks so much Alexa for a fantastic stay. The house is beautiful with lots of character and personality. Alexa has great taste. I want to buy everything that she has lol. We were very comfortable and enjoyed exploring the neighbourhood and Boston. Alexa was so kind to host us even though at that time she did not had plans to visit Toronto. We took a break from driving which felt good and took affordable Uber everywhere. Thanks Alexa for everything.
This was an excellent location and home, and Alexa and her husband were wonderful hosts! I didn't mean to take so long to write this review. I would highly recommend an exchange with them.
Feedback for Julie·Non-Reciprocal exchange·6 nights
Jenna's home was fantastic. It's in a high rise building with a concierge until 8 pm. The view was amazing - you can see the Statue of Liberty from their living room and bedroom. It was a comfortable place.
The location was also terrific. Brooklyn Bridge Park - which is just fantastic - is literally across the street. Our first night we walked through it to dinner in Dumbo. There is a bus that goes all over Brooklyn practically at their front door. It's a bit more of a hike to the subway stops but that's good because I had to work off all of the great food I ate while in Brooklyn.
Feedback for Jenna·Non-Simultaneous exchange·3 nights
Jenna and her family were wonderful guests. Communication with Jenna was quick and easy. They alerted us the day after they got into our apartment and were willing to let our dog boarder in to retrieve something we forgot to give her.
They left our home spotless.
I'm so glad they enjoyed our space and especially the wonderful playground across the street which is wasted on us empty-nesters.
Feedback for Veronique·Non-Reciprocal exchange·5 nights
Veronique and Celecio were delightful guests. They stayed 5 nights; we were home for three of them and in fact took them out for dinner for one. We enjoyed their company. They did a great job making themselves at home while not being intrusive. They kept everything beautifully clean. I would not hesitate to lend out my home or co-habitate with them again.
Alexa and Roger were extraordinary hosts, charming and very attentive.
We stayed 5 nights including 3 nights with them. They did everything to put us at ease and make us feel at home. The apartment is very pleasant in a very pleasant neighborhood, convenient 15 minutes by train from Downtown Boston.
They gave us great tour and restaurant recommendations! They even invited us to some excellent Italian.
We were very happy to meet them and are sure we will stay in touch.
Finally, they were really very responsive to welcome us despite a late request! We are very grateful to them.
We will be happy to see them again. In summary: superb experience!
Feedback for Charo·Non-Simultaneous exchange·4 nights
Charo and her family were lovely. Sometimes our communications were a bit confusing - Charo changed the dates in the beginning and when I asked if I could take back my place a day earlier (because my daughter was moving out of state - something I hadn't known at the time we agreed to the exchange) her answer was confusing. But in the end she agreed. And they left the house nice and clean. And she's been generous in offering up having us share stay in her house with her because we are actually going to Toronto when she couldn't vacate (we declined because we are a big group).
Feedback for Jean·Non-Simultaneous exchange·5 nights
Jean was a lovely host. I found out when I was on my way there that she moved her family into a hotel to accommodate my schedule! She hadn’t told me that when we set up the time.
The location is terrific - right around the corner from the bay. A four minute walk to the ferry to Roosevelt island and Manhattan. There’s also kayaking on that bay. You’re a 5 minute walk from the very cool Noguchi museum and just a block from a super cute cafe: cafe la wood. The subway and restaurants are about a 15 minute walk.
The apartment comes with parking which we used.
Jean describes her family as “minimalist” which seems accurate. There were, for example, no bureaus so we lived out of our suitcases.
We definitely enjoyed exploring Queens and Jean’s apartment offered a great base.
Feedback for Jean·Non-Simultaneous exchange·7 nights
Jean (Jinjoo) and her family were wonderful guests. She was easy to communicate with and was willing to work with the timing of when we would be out of our place (we were on a vacation in an Airbnb). They left our home perfectly clean along with a sweet gift and an adorable note. I’m so glad they were able to take advantage of some of our neighborhood offerings that we don’t use because we don’t have small kids at home.
Feedback for Karen·Non-Reciprocal exchange·3 nights
Karen and her family were an ideal first exchange. Karen is an experienced exchanger so asked good questions. They left our apartment in perfect shape along with a candle and a cute note. It was a good test case for us and we have already signed up to do our second exchange.

My husband and I are both retired now so are traveling a lot. Our only limitations are my 92 year old parents and finding sitters for our pups. We are both lifelong social justice people; we both are trained as lawyers although I have worked as an academic administrator and a nonprofit manager for most of my career. We love to travel but don't have a big budget because we have never worked in for-profit institutions. But that's fine as I enjoy the challenge of planning reasonably priced trips many of my best experiences have been through finding adventures. Although we are both pescatarians, my husband and I love eating local cuisine. One of our best experiences was a walking food tour - on my 60th birthday - in Hanoi with a group from around the world.
