Neighbourhood
The apartment is located in the historic district of Sant'Ambrogio, one of the most typical in town, adjacent in the Santa Croce area and a few steps from the Galleria dell'Accademia, which houses the famous David by Michelangelo. It is 5 minute walk to Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge which connects the historic district Oltrarno. The central railway station is also at walking distance (15 min.). The entire historic center, mostly closed to car traffic, is easily explored on foot and therefore all the monuments and major attractions are within a few minute walk. You won't need a car here. The area is well served by public transport (buses and taxis) and a Post Office is a few steps from home and open all day. The pride of the neighborhood is the Sant'Ambrogio Farmer's Market, which is still considered the best in town. You can find there local food products and clothing, and is open every morning from Monday to Saturday. A flea market with antiques is a few blocks away. The district fully preserves the spirit of Florence and at any time of day will be easy to chat with local residents in the nice and numerous small deli and grocery shops located in the area. Despite being very quiet, the neighborhood offers a wide assortment of restaurants, clubs and gatherings for drinks with friends, theaters, pubs, shops, and small supermarkets. Every night the little square of Sant'Ambrogio becomes a popular meeting place for the Florentines for drinks, dinner or chats outdoors. Florence is equally distant from Rome, Venice and Milan by train (1.30 hr) and one hour from the beach. Siena in the Chianti is also an easy daytrip.
