We are fortunate to live in a beach house on K’gari (Fraser Island), a UNESCO World Heritage listed paradise and the world’s largest sand island. Our simple, comfortable home sits on the eastern side of the island in Second Valley, perfectly positioned for exploring K’gari’s wild beauty.
Our exchange guests have access to two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with everything needed for a relaxed and easy stay. The balcony overlooks a shared swimming pool area, complete with a heated spa and a shallow wading pool ideal for young children. Inside, the home is functional, tidy, and well equipped, featuring a full kitchen, a cosy living space, and all the essentials for unwinding after a day of adventure.
K’gari offers endless opportunities for outdoor lovers from world-class beach fishing and 4WD adventures to freshwater lakes, towering rainforest, sand-blow lookouts, and peaceful bushwalks. You can spend your days spotting wildlife, swimming in crystal-clear lakes like Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie), wandering ancient rainforests at Central Station, or simply enjoying the pristine coastline just steps from home. Whether you're seeking relaxation or exploration, K’gari delivers a truly unique island experience.
The Space
The house has three bedrooms, but only two will be accessible to our exchange guests; the third is used to store our belongings due to limited storage.
The main bedroom has a queen bed and bathroom. The door leading to the balcony and overlooking the pool.
One of the kids’ rooms has a comfortable double bed. The second kid's room has two single beds.
Let us know which room you prefer and we will set them up for you.
Guest Access
There are 7 small steps at our house. It is not suitable for wheelchair user.
We welcome babies and toddlers to our house, however, we don't have toys or cot for babies as our kids are now 6 and 9.
Notes
A few important things about K’gari. Please read the details below before enquiring.
Despite how beautifully the media and the internet portrays it, K’gari isn’t like Fiji. It’s wild, raw, remote, and genuinely unique.
• K’gari is the world’s largest sand island. All roads are sand, there are no sealed roads anywhere on the island.
• You must have a 4WD and be confident driving on sand to get around the island.
• There are full-day or 2-3 days guided 4WD tours available if you prefer not to drive, covering the island’s major attractions.
• There is only one local taxi service (that I’m aware of at time of writing), and it must be booked in advance. It’s not always available and it's not cheap.
Dingoes are native to K’gari and are a protected species. They are wild animals and roam freely across the island, so visitors must stay alert at all times. I can help you understand how to stay safe around them, but it’s important to remember that dingoes are not dogs. They must be treated with respect and with full awareness of their behaviour.

Neighbourhood
K’gari is a small community with a modest resident population made up largely of retirees, resort staff, and essential service workers. The island primarily caters to visitors.
In Eurong, 10 - 15 mins walk from our house, you'll find a small shop (which also sells fuel), and a resort that includes a bar, restaurant, and bakery. The shop carries basic supplies but has limited fresh fruit and vegetables, so it's wise to stock up on essentials on the mainland before arriving, though I’m happy to walk you through what we typically bring over.
For safety and support, the island has a police station, an emergency ambulance service, and park rangers who help manage and protect the natural landscapes.
Getting to my home
You can reach K’gari in two ways:
o From River Heads (Hervey Bay): A barge ride (45 minutes) to Kingfisher Bay, then a 20 km / ~45-minute drive to Second Valley.
o From Rainbow Beach: A 10-minute barge ride to the island, then 30 minutes to 1 hour of beach driving depending on tides.
The nearest airport is Hervey Bay. The nearest international airport is Brisbane, about 3.5 hours from Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay.
You need a permit to visit K'gari and I can guide you through the process once our exchange finalised.

Getting Around
The best way to explore K'gari is by car (4WD), there are long distances and remote areas which are only accessible this way. And, it gives you the freedom to visit the island’s incredible sights at your own pace.
To go to shop and restaurant, are within 10-15 minute walking distance.

Mi na
Hello! We’re a family of four living on beautiful K’gari (Fraser Island), myself, my partner, and our two adventurous kids, aged 6 and 9. K’gari is the world’s largest sand island, home to crystal-clear freshwater lakes like Lake Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie), ancient rainforests that grow straight out of the sand, and one of Australia’s purest populations of Wongari (dingoes). It’s an 'adventure' place to raise kids who love nature as much as we do.
We’re passionate about the outdoors and love camping, fishing, bushwalking, and pretty much anything that gets us outside exploring the island’s wild beaches, dunes, and forests.
Travel is a big part of our lives. Every year, we take a 5–7 week trip overseas, each time discovering a new country. It’s our way of showing our kids the wonders of the world, helping them grow up curious, kind, and always ready for the next adventure. We also like to explore our big “backyard” here in Australia and always try to sneak in a week-long trip whenever we can. So please don’t be shy, get in touch!
We enjoy meeting new people, sharing stories, and learning about different ways of life. Whether we’re at home or travelling, we’re always up for a good chat and a new experience!
"Looking to take kids to Lapland for Christmas so they can experience the white Christmas and the magic surrounding Christmas. While a trip to Finland is a long journey for us, we would like to explore all the Scandinavia as well."
