General overview
The house is a 3837 sq foot, timber frame, passive solar home with solar panels and solar hot water heater; we have an electric car charger in the garage. We have a large garden and and are starting a new chicken flock for fresh eggs daily. 45 minutes from skiing. 4 bedrooms plus a loft which we converted into a bedroom (so 5 sleeping areas total), 3 bathrooms, in a beautiful pine forest bordering the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
The space
Miles of National Forest hiking trails just over the back fence. Property is on 4 acres. We have a children's play area on the back side of the property (playhouse, trampoline, slide); big garden from which you are welcome to harvest when it's in season. Cool in the summers; close to skiing in the winter (can be on the slopes in 45 minutes). We are musicians, have lots of string instruments and a baby grand piano. Mountain biking, hiking. This would be a great house for a family reunion (the 10 person limit is not set in stone, we've housed 17 here before using air mattresses!--just let us know if you want more than 10 people and we can see what we can make work) but also comfortable for just a couple. We have 5 bedrooms, each with beds, and a pull-open futon double bed in the loft. We tried to make the bottom floor accessible; wide hall, grab bars, wide doorways, hand held shower head--but there are lips to the entrance way. Notify us if you are considering our place but need improved wheelchair accessibility and we can see what we can do. We're not really TV people; we have TV screens in the loft and the guest bedroom that you can hook your computer to if you want to stream, but we're not hooked to cable. We do have internet.
We love to cook and have a well stocked kitchen, two ovens (comes in handy for large gatherings). In the great room, we have a pull down projector screen and have a projector, so this is our own little movie theater in front of a fire! Also talk to us if you want to bring a pet and we can see what we can do. Several of us have allergies so when friends with pets have come, we've kept the pets out of the carpeted areas, so we can talk about your individual situation. We don't have a "gym" but we have weight sets, yoga mats, balance boards. We have 2 sets of cross country skiis, some snow shoes, some down hill ski equipment.
Guest access
2 stories plus a loft. Guestroom and guest bathroom on the bottom floor are wheelchair accessible (extra wide doors and hall, grab bars, hand held shower) but we would have to make a ramp to get over the lips to get into the house (which we are willing to do). The second floor is accessible via stairs; the upper loft is accessible via a ladder (fun for kids!)
Notes
We are starting a chicken flock; you are welcome to fresh eggs daily once they start laying, but would like guests to keep an eye on their water and feed; also have two outdoor/garage cats (don't let them in the house even though they ask!!) who have extended feeding and water containers, but would like guests to keep any eye on these as well. Few house plants that we might ask you to keep an eye on and water infrequently.

Neighbourhood
Quiet, safe neighborhood; most houses are seasonal 2nd homes in our neighborhood. Dirt road access; in the winter you are best with a 4 wheel drive as our street is one of the last to get plowed. This is a tourist area for Phoenix and Tucson area people who are trying to get out of the heat in the summer or trying to get to the snow in the winter. Not a great area if you're looking for night life, it's best for outdoor lovers--although in the summers can usually find outdoor live music at several local eateries. Fishing in lakes and streams nearby.
Getting to my home
We are 3 1/2 hours from Phoenix airport, 4 hours from Albuquerque airport; there is a small airport in Show Low about 20 minutes away but not always reliable during snow storms or summer monsoons.

Getting around
In nice weather, we love to walk or bike to local restaurants (there are about 5 within a mile of our house). No great public transportation, so you'd do best with a car. Small grocery store about a mile away--nice selection of produce, wines, some gourmet foods; larger one about 5 miles away.

My husband and I are pediatricians for the Indian Health Service, but plan on cutting back on work in 2023 to be able to travel more. We have two adult girls. We live in the beautiful mountains of northeast Arizona, at 7200 ft elevation in a beautiful pine forest.
