La Folie is a savoyard barn convertion, which we have done entirely ourselves. Its nestled in a beautiful traditional french mountain village, within the Valmorel valley. The village of Doucy is known as "the Sunny Balcony". There is an abundance of activities close by, walking, climbing, white water rafting and in summer it is also a mountain and road bikers paradise - we are situated close to the famous col de madeleine. Within an hour, you can also be at the beautiful Lake Annecy, a little further and you could be in the vibrant city of Lyon, or in summer you could take the famous St Bernard pass and within a couple of hours, pop over to Italy for a pizza lunch. Winter is all about the skiing, with 150km pistes for all levels, family friendly, and very french, the Valmorel "grande domaine" is a French hidden gem. Its neighbour les trois vallees, is famously the largest ski resort in the world (which can be reached in around 40 minutes) Or a little further takes you to Paradiski regions, la Plagne, Tignes, and even Val d'isere.
The space has been well thought out. The lower two floors contain the 4 ensuite bedrooms - each has their own shower and toilet. The rooms sleep 2, 3, 4 and 5 making a total of 14. There is a small "library" area, and then the top floor contains the lovely open plan living area, with very well equipped kitchen, large dining table seating 16, lounge area with woodburner, TV and wii, and large windows with stunning panoramic mountain views. There is a 9m2 outdoor rooftop terrace, affording great views.
There are stairs down to the property, and it is over 3 floors, so two full sets of stairs and some stairs in the entrance. There is parking close by but this is not privately allocated. It is a mountain region and situated at just under 1000m altitude.
We rent the house out both catered and self catered to paying guests, and therefore during rental season (july, August & December - April) we will only accept very last minute exchanges if at all, as we also earn our living from the house. Peak weeks such as Christmas and new year, and school holidays it is not available to swap.
The village is small, with no shops or bars / restaurants - though during the season, these can be found at the resort 3.5km away. There is a large supermarket in the main town 15 minutes down the hill. The village contains a school and the locals are very friendly and chatty, and security wise, it is a safe place to be.
You will need your own transport to get to resort and around the area as buses are not frequent nor reliable!
