Neighbourhood
We are in the town and a short walk to shops such as Lidl, and Sainsburys for groceries. There is a Morrison’s and Aldi close by too.
The town has lots of cafes/ restaurants and pubs , all within walking distance with everything from traditional Scottish food and drink to Italian, vegan and gluten-free specialties catered for and more.
Virtually all the restaurants deliver too.
There are specialty gift shops, tweed and cashmere stores, and a distillery too all within an easy walk.
Hawick has rivers running through the town Centre and a beautiful park which is also a short walk from the house. Fishing permits are available ( from £10, £5 for seniors) for keen fishermen.
There are many hiking trails near by and several start in the field behind our house. The local leisure centre is a few streets away and has a swimming pool, large gym and lots of fitness classes available and for a small fee you can pay when you go.
The Borders is also famed for horse riding , and there are stables nearby where you can book horse riding. Fishing , archery , shooting etc many outdoor pursuits are available within a very short distance plus numerous castles and country houses of historic interest.
We are just over an hour to Edinburgh and the same distance to Newcastle.
Nearest airport
Edinburgh Airport 1 hour 15 minutes by car
Newcastle Airport 1 hour 20 minutes by car
Getting around
As we are based in the town , everything is in walking distance. For exploring further afield in the Borders Eg. Neidpath Castle, Melrose Abbey , or going to Edinburgh, although nearby, a car would be required. There is a great local taxi service and local bus services too.
