The apartment is our second home, not a vacation rental. It has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen with a dining table and a sitting room. It has a balcony with plenty of space to sit and even eat outside, and room to park your car.
The space
One bedroom as a double bed, and the kids bedroom has two single beds. The bathroom has a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge and freezer, dish washer, oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster etc. (It's our second home so it is well equipped). The washing machine is in our storage room - office, downstairs. No drier (not common in Italy), there are lines to dry your laundry on the balcony. The sitting room has two sofas and a large tv. The apartment is aircoditioned and has independent heating.
Guest access
There are two short flights of stairs to get in the apartment, then it's all on one floor.
Notes
The apartment is our second home, so it is not "picture perfect" as our other listing, which is a rental. It is more modern, but it has lovely views, and it is comfortable for a family of four.

Neighbourhood
The apartment is in a small apartment building of 4 units, on the first floor. The apartment above is empty, so no noise coming from upstairs. There is a family next door but again, their kids are older so no noise. Only one person lives in the fourth apartment and he's away for part of the year. The apartment is in the more modern part of the village (it was built in the 60's). The views are really pretty and the village has easy access to the most famous sights in Southern Tuscany (Siena, the hilltop towns of Pienza and Montalcino, Florence, the coast of the Maremma).
Getting to my home
The village is right off the main thoroughfare connecting Florence and Siena to the sea, E78. So really easy. You will need a car though.
Nearest airport
Pisa, Florence or Rome. Perugia is also an option.
Getting around
You will need a rental car. There are buses to Siena and Grosseto but they are expensive and not too frequent. You cannot really explore Tuscany without your own means of transport.

Gloria and her beautiful family stayed in our home for two weeks this summer. We tell everyone “We totally lucked out. We got the nicest family for our first exchange.” From the moment she contacted me, Gloria was thoughtful, considerate and clear. I knew we were a perfect match from the back-and-forth about expectations, peppered with humour and always 100 per cent upfront and generous. Gloria and family left our home in perfect shape, which is remarkable because they were en route to another city that morning, and our house is a large space to clean and tidy. We appreciate their conscientious approach. We look forward to visiting Tuscany, knowing we will be in a welcoming space with kind hosts. Thank you for helping us learn the PLU ropes, Gloria!
Dear Irene, thank you for your lovely words! Your home was the heaven for us! We loved every minute we spent there and we were so grateful for your warm welcome! We really look forward to hosting you here in Tuscany! Big hugs to the family!
We spent two weeks at Irene, Chris and Mallory’s beautiful home. They were incredibly easy to talk to and we agreed on all details very easily. Their home is absolutely gorgeous and in a great location in the centre of Ottawa. It was the perfect home-away-from-home. They were great in leaving detailed information and instructions and we communicated throughout the exchange. The washing machine broke on our very last date and we felt responsible and very very sorry about the issue. They were gracious about it all and never made us feel at fault (although I still hope we can contribute to fixing it!! ). We cannot wait to return their generosity and welcoming attention to details when they will visit Tuscany. To Irene, Chris and Mallory our most heartfelt thank you for making our stay in Ottawa truly special!!!
We could not have asked for a better family for our first home exchange. From the get-go, Gloria and family have been thoughtful, considerate and clear. I knew we were a perfect match from the back-and-forth about expectations, peppered with humour and always 100 per cent upfront and generous. Re the washing machine, it’s like opening a jar … the person who finally gets the lid off simply applied the finishing touch. Most of the labour was in the earlier efforts (our responsibility entirely). We look forward to visiting Tuscany, knowing we will be in a welcoming space with kind hosts! Thank you for helping us learn the PLU ropes, Gloria!

Every other year, we travel to Ontario in the summer (Ottawa and Toronto) or the UK. I am an Italian university Professor. My husband is a Canadian web developer, and we have two kids, a boy and a girl. We have a vacation rental in Tuscany and our second home south of Siena. They can accommodate a couple, or max. 3 people, and a family of 4, respectively. We can swap non-simultaneously when the houses are available.
"Looking to travel to Ottawa to visit family at the end of July and early August"
