General Overview
A studio apartment with a 24/7 natural hot springs access in a slopeside mountain resort condominium building. Situated on the top floor, the unit overlooks one of the biggest gondolas in the world.
The Space
The unit has a Japanese style tatami room with a single bed and a semi-double bed. A small separate sun room, kitchenette, shower and toilet are also in the unit.
Onsen, a natural hot spring is within our building. There are male bath and female bath. Use of bathing suits are not allowed. Persons with tattoos are also not allowed to use the facility (a traditional anti-gang custom that is still alive in Japanese culture). You will likely be the only user after midnight to early morning, but it is a shared facility with other condo owners and their guests.
Guest Access
On 15th floor with an elevator access.
Notes
Due to the very unique nature of Japanese culture, language barrier and social expectations of the community, I will only accept an exchange from members who have had a successful previous exchange with my other properties (NYC #7822 and Berkshires MA #7820).
The exchange must be at least 2 weeks. The starting date will need to be coordinated with my departure date, normally on a Wednesday. A tour of the property to learn community rules and being personally introduced to the building's front desk staff is mandatory.

Neighbourhood
The town of Yuzawa is a traditional hot spring town located in the foothills of 11 small and large ski resorts. The town is known as "Snow Country", a title of the most recognized fiction novel by a Japanese Nobel prize novelist.
Yuzawa has 5 public onsens (natural hot spring) that are all different in quality and color. An onsen self tour ticket provides an admission to each hot spring for 1500yen ($10 USD). Many more privately owned onsens around town and beyond also accept day visitors.
Ski resorts in Yuzawa includes some of the largest ski resorts in Japan. To name a few, Naeba (World Cup host resort), Kagura (back country skiing), Yuzawa snow links (3 resorts, Yuzawa Kogen, Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuchi interlinked with a single lift ticket). There is also the biggest ski resorts in Japan, Joetsu Kokusai, in the next town over. Most of the resorts are accessible by public transportation.
Getting to my home
A 12 minutes walk or a 2 min seasonal free ski shuttle bus ride from Echigo-Yuzawa bullet train station. A direct, 75 min bullet train ride from Tokyo station will take you to this one of the snowiest regions in Japan and in the world. You will personally experience arguably the most famous opening passage in Japanese literature while approaching this town on a bullet train-
"The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country. The earth lay white under the night sky." Yasuyuki Kawabata, "Yukiguni" (snow country)
Nearest airport
There are 2 international airports in Tokyo. Haneda and Narita airports.
Getting Around
The building is centrally located, and the town is easily walkable. There are rental electric bikes available for a small fee. Also daily parking available for a small fee.
Consider making day trips using Japan Railways (JR)'s Tokyo Wide Pass. For 15,000 yen (approximately $100 USD), you have a 3 day pass access to major train systems in Greater Tokyo area, including Joetsu Shinkansen line. Take a day trip to a port city Yokohama, an old capital city Kamakura, Mt. Fuji/Kawaguchiko lake, Toshogu temple in Nikko, other near by alpine towns such as Karuizawa and Nasu Shiobara, Atami and Izu ocean hot spring towns, etc.
