General overview

Welcome to the incredible Okanagan Valley of BC! I love living here, among the world-class wineries and incredible orchards so much that when I recently moved, I only went down the street to stay in the neighbourhood I love so much! My home is brand new, just finished being built in January 2021. It has been both designed and decorated as a labour of love. It is a quiet sanctuary with a million dollar view and right at the edge of nature, yet close to the amenities that I want from Kelowna. I prefer reciprocal exchanges as I prefer to exchange primary homes in order to truly feel a connection to my exchange partners and communities. I travelled many years, primarily using exchanges and am so excited to find a community of like-minded, kind and respectful exchange partners through PLU!

The space

My home is a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom top-floor/corner condominium. The building is only 16 units and we all have our own private exterior entry and garage space. I designed the layout of the condo myself and hired a local designer to help with all the furnishings. I am incredibly proud of my beautiful home and I am excited to share it with my exchange partners! The main bedroom has an enormous window that overlooks the Okanagan Valley. I have a king-size bed with a full ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom I usually leave set up as my yoga/meditation space. However, I have a queen-size 'cabinet bed' with a comfortable mattress that is easily creates a bedroom for 2. The modern, gourmet kitchen has a 5-burner gas stove, a 4-seat island and is open to the rest of the living space. As this is my primary home, the kitchen is left with whatever basic cooking needs (including a massive drawer of spices!) that you will need. The main bath has a full-size tub/shower as well as the laundry. The sundeck is a wonderful place to start your day watching the sunrise in the mornings or unwind in the evenings. As well as a couch and 2 chairs, I do have a 2-person hot tub on the deck. I don't typically prepare this for exchange, but if this is something you would like to have access to, please let me know. Although there are many large windows as I am on the corner of the building, there is great central air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.

Guest access

My home is all one level, with no stairs. Due to the slope of the land it was built on, the parking and front door access is all on the 'ground floor', but there is one unit below me (although I have never heard them!). The one neighbour I share a wall with is one of the kindest people I have ever met and I will let him know that you are staying, in case you need anything. He and his wife are very quiet also. I will leave the garage space available for you to park your car, if needed.

Neighbourhood

Lake Country is a boutique community in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. It is a short 12 minute drive to get right into downtown Kelowna, only 8 minutes to the international airport (YLW), and a 30 minute drive north to Vernon. What I truly love about living here is that you have access to all the amenities of a big city, but you truly feel like you are living in the country. To get to my small neighbourhood, you drive past orchards and farm lands. During the summer, I eat only locally from the neighbours - fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, baked goods... We have 2 local grocery stores, but we have some incredibly places to go out to eat! Even though it is close and easy to dine in Kelowna, I usually prefer to dine out right here in Lake Country because we have such a fantastic array of restaurants. Right out my front door is an incredible network of trails that lead to a spectacular view over Lake Okanagan. My home is right in the middle of 4 beautiful lakes, all swimmable and with incredible beaches - Lake Okanagan, Kalamalka Lake, Wood Lake and Oyama Lake. If you love the outdoors, like I do, you will never be bored here! Lake Country is home to eight world-class wineries (120 in the Okanagan Valley), most with incredible high-end restaurants also. If you plan your exchange during the winter, I live exactly in between two ski resorts - Big White (Kelowna) and Silver Star (Vernon). I own a vacation condo at Silver Star resort that is ski in/out access to some incredible terrain! This is also listed as an exchange option on PLU.

Getting to my home

My home is only 8 minutes from the Okanagan's international airport in Kelowna - YLW. The best way to explore the valley is by car though so if you are not coming with your own, there are rentals at the airport and you can park in my garage. There is a public transit system, but it is not great coming out to Lake Country, so I would recommend having access to a vehicle. I would consider a reciprocal exchange of vehicles (I own a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek).

Nearest airport

Kelowna, BC - YLW (an 8 minute drive to my front door!)

Getting around

The easiest way to explore all the Okanagan Valley has to offer is by car. However, there are also organized wine tours that will pick you up from my home and bus transportation options into town or up to the ski hills.
