After moving to Paris from Canada, I found the noise and chaos of Paris to be too much to live in. I am so happy that I discovered Garches! This is a bougie little suburb of Paris that provides the quaint village French lifestyle with quiet streets, friendly neighbours and safety to walk at night, yet with direct access to central Paris or Versailles on the L-train only a 5 minute walk from my door.
The space
My home is on the 3rd floor of a 1900 building with a view of the Eiffel tower at sunrise when getting ready in the morning! It is one bedroom and one living room with a decorative fireplace in each. The kitchen is well-stocked as this is my primary home. I only ask that if you use something up, please replace it. The main bedroom is a XL double bed (which is a Queen size in North America). The living room has a comfortable pull out double sofa and also a separate pull out single. There is a small washing machine and a shower separate from the WC.
I have a smart TV (Samsung) with access to Netflix as well as a good internet connection. Although there is not ac (which is nearly impossible to find in Parisian homes!), the apartment is dual aspect - so on a warm day, I open the bedroom window on one side of the building and the living room window on the other side of the building and the breeze blows right through.
Clean linens are provided, but I need to know in advance which beds you will use so I can have everything ready.
Notes
I am a full time teacher so unfortunately my travel dates are dependant on school holidays.
I do have an adorable small dachshund dog that travels with me, but I make sure my home is very well cleaned before a guest arrival.
I have been exchanging for over 12 years and have had incredible experiences and met many great friends. Please feel free to read my reviews as both a host and guest.

Neighbourhood
Garches is a wonderful little Parisian suburb. In the late 1800's there was a building boom here as the wealthy upper class of Paris wanted a community of 'holiday homes' with easy train access back into the city or to Versailles. My neighbourhood, therefore, is filled with beautifully designed architecture of large homes and few apartments.
There is both a Monoprix and Super-U (grocery stores) only a few minutes from the house and the central square of Garches is just a couple minutes walk up the road. The weekly markets are held in the central square in front of the main town church on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. For a small town, there is a surprising variety of good little restaurants, all locally owned, no big name fast food here. And, of course, there are 5 bakeries!
There is a lot to do out here, but also very quick to get into central Paris or to neighbouring Versailles. Just beside the Monoprix (5 minute walk from my house) is the L-train - this renovated line (with a modern train and incredible city views over the Eiffel Tower and Sacré Coeur church!) will take you directly to Saint-Lazare train station. This is the area of Paris (the heart of the 9th) is where you find the Paris Opera Garnier, the Galeries Lafayette, La Madeleine church and a connection hub to the metro system that will take you anywhere else. There is also an easy transfer if you get off the L at La Défense to the Metro 1 line with stops at the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees or the Louvre.
Paris is truly at your fingertips from here, but you get a quiet and safe space to sleep at night and you can get a taste of the quiet village life that exists in the rest of France.

My beautiful building was built in 1900. Still with the original gorgeous tile floor entry and wooden spiral staircase.
This style of architecture is unique to Garches.
The main square church
The train station serviced by the L-train 24/7 (direct access to central Paris - Saint Lazare Station, La Défense station and also to Versailles)
A screenshot of the L train route from my front door to central Paris. The ride is above ground in a new/modern train with incredible views over Paris of the Eiffel Tower all the way to the Sacré Coeur church.
The lovely central square of Garches - a ride for the kids, a bakery, flower shop, bookstore, pharmacy and a few restaurants.
The weekly market (Wednesday and Saturday from 8am-1pm)
Garches city hall with a lovely and peaceful garden out front and a kids play park just beside.
One of the two main streets - with a wonderful bakery!
Most people in Garches live in actual homes with yards and huge trees - so lovely considering the proximity to the chaos of Paris!
Sunrise by our community swimming pool and a fabulous italian restaurant.
The view of my neighbours from my bedroom window - a little skiff of snow in January!! Work was cancelled that day!
The park around city hall being decorated for the holidays
The other main street (at the end of which is the train station and the Monoprix grocery store).
