General overview
Built in 2000, our house is the perfect spot for a family vacation on the north Oregon coast. The home has three bedrooms (2 with queen beds and 1 with a queen and a twin bed) and a family room with a fold out queen couch. The downstairs has two of the bedrooms, family room, a full bath and laundry and "mud" rooms. Upstairs is the living room (with wood stove), dining room, kitchen, one bedroom and deck (with BBQ). We have sleeping bags and pads if you want to sleep on the deck under the stars!
The house is stocked with puzzles, games, books and beach toys. You'll enjoy our stereo and many CDs.
Located on the north end of town, we are a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of town or the beach. A full service grocery store is a 5 minute walk from the house.
Guest access
The house is on two floors and has two steps up to access the first floor.
Notes
This is our second home, shared with Brock's sisters, and is not used as a rental. We don't have a cleaning service, so expect our exchangers to leave the house clean and ready for the next guest.
We do not allow guest pets in the house. On occasion our daughter's Australian Shepherd visits, so if you are extremely allergic to dogs this might not be the home for you.

Neighbourhood
Named by Architectural Digest as one of the most beautiful small towns in American, Manzanita is a quaint, quiet town on the north Oregon coast. Unlike most coastal towns, Manzanita is oriented perpendicular to the coastline creating a compact main street/down town area with great shopping and dining. Food options range from upscale breakfast/brunch at Yolk to some of our favorite pizza anywhere at Marzano's to inexpensive but yummy Mexican at Left Coast Siesta and burgers and fries at the Sand Dune tavern. The main drag also has a gem of a bookstore (Cloud and Leaf), a full service spa (Spa Manzanita), a yoga studio(Yoga Roots), a natural foods grocery store, a boutique clothing store (Unfurled) and much more.
But the best thing about Manzanita is the long, long stretch of public beach just waiting for you to explore. You can walk for 2 hours or more, from the base of Neahkahnie Mountain on the north to the jetty to the south. Sand bikes are available to rent in town or you can take a guided horse back ride through the nearby state park and along the beach. A short drive north of town takes you to the Neahkahnie Mountain trailhead. The hike up is well worth it for the breathtaking view of the coastline, bay and surrounding forest.
Manzanita is well located to explore the north and mid coast communities. South is the famous Tillamook Creamery (gotta have the cheese curds). The Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport is a two hour drive south. North is Astoria - the end of the Lewis and Clark trail.

Getting to my home
Manzanita is about 2 hours drive from the Portland airport - a bit shorter from downtown.
Nearest airport
Nearest airport is Portland (PDX).
Getting around
Public transportation on the coast is very limited, so you'll need a car. Once at the house, you can easily walk to all the town has to offer.
Thank you to the Roberts family for sharing their home with us! As Oregonians, we love any chance to stay longer than a day at the coast and their home was a perfect jumping off point. In 3 days, we fit in 2 hikes, 5 different beaches, tide pools, several sand castle creations, and too many treats to count. ;) Nancy is generous and an excellent communicator -she made sure we had everything we needed.
We had a great time at Nancy's home on the Oregon Coast. The location is close to the beach as well as the main commercial area of Manzanita and has easy access to the highway. The home itself has lots of room to spread out and had more than enough room for our family of four. The outdoor patio was our usual choice for sitting with a morning coffee, the kitchen and dining rooms are spacious, and the bedrooms are all comfortable. Nancy's communication was always very clear and we had no issues at all.
This was a return visit and once again we had a fabulous time at the Manzanita house. Manzanita is a lovely coastal town. The house is in walking distance of the beach.. We enjoyed outings to nearby beaches, cooking in the modern kitchen to the tunes from a world class cd collection and gathering in the spacious dining and living room. We can also recommend cocktails on the back deck of the Rusty Moose, just down the road from the house. Thank you to Nancy and Brock. We look forward to meeting up again in Portland!
Nancy's house was perfect for us. We traveling with friends: a total of 5 kids and 4 adults. It was a great location, close to the beach and downtown Manzanita. Nancy was easy to communicate with, and the house was comfy and well-stocked.
We had a lovely stay at Nancy and Brock’s home in Manzanita. The home is comfortable and well equipped with 2 separate desks to sit in the sun or shade and to gaze at the stars. The home is in a quiet area but close to town and the beach. There is plenty to do, the coastal area is beautiful to hike or sightsee, but you can also just sit back and relax.
We had a delightful non-sim exchange at Nancy’s spacious, very comfortable beach house in Manzanita.
The kitchen is well-stocked, plenty of bedding and pillows are on hand, and they even had beach toys available for kids. We loved having the TV room downstairs for the kids while my husband and I enjoyed listening to CDs from their vast music collection while sipping our morning coffee upstairs. The house was perfectly located close to town, an easy walk to restaurants, cute shops, grocery stores, and the beach.
Nancy’s communication before and during our exchange was excellent. She is clearly an experienced home exchanger. As someone new to PLU, I learned a lot from her pre-swap communication!
We look forward to hosting Nancy and Brock at our Mt. Hood cabin.
Large and beautiful house ideally placed near the coast in a green setting.
Interior is beautiful, bright, cosy, clean and very well equipped. Wether you want to hang on the beach or have some serious hikes with stunning views, it will certainly meet your expectations.
We had a wonderful stay.
Nancy and Brock are very helpful and experienced exchangers.
Our family had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home, perfectly located in the charming coastal town of Manzanita! The Oregon coast is spectacularly beautiful, and Nancy and Brock's place is perfectly situated to explore all it has to offer. Cannon Beach, Haystack Rock, Seaside & Rockaway Beach are each just a short, scenic drive away. But should you wish to leave your car parked, lovely downtown Manzanita and the beach are easily walkable from their house.
The house itself is large, comfortable, and fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. We prepared many wonderful meals that we always enjoyed on the delightful deck. Because it is surrounded by lush evergreens, the upper (main) floor gives one the feeling of being perched high up in a treehouse!
We highly recommend Nancy and Brock's Manzanita house, it is a hidden gem on the Oregon Coast that you will absolutely love!
We enjoyed our stay immensely! We had the pleasure of meeting Nancy and Brock in Portland before heading for the coast which made the exchange much more personal. Such a beautiful and comfortable house. We enjoyed the sound system ( my father had Marvin Gaye playing five minutes after we arrived) as well as all of the other comforts of the house. The first afternoon we had an encounter with a deer while sitting on the downstairs deck. He gave us a short nod and went on his way. A beautiful setting for relaxing and enjoying nature.
We stayed at the house in Manzanita for three great days in October.
It was our base for visiting friends and doing sightseeing in this beautiful piece of the Oregon coast.
The house is truly an experience in itself. Surrounded by trees and with lots of windows, it almost feels like it is actually a tree-house. The living room has windows on three sides with beautiful light coming in any time of the day. Accompanied by a plentiful selection of jazz and classical CDs, this is truly a sanctuary for relaxing and recharging.
We loved strolling on the beatiful beaches.
Nancy and Brock made it easy to communicate both before and during our stay.
We were also lucky to be invited to Nancy and Brocks home in Portland for a lovely homemade dinner, before leaving to Oslo.
Nancy and Brock's house in Manzanita is wonderful! Light filled with views of trees from every window, spacious, well designed, clean, and well appointed. It feels like you are in a forest, but just a short stroll to the beach. There are also shops and restaurants within walking distance. We loved exploring the Manzanita area, Nancy recommended hikes for us which were beautiful. We even saw a bear, a huge eagle and lots of seals. Communication was very easy and we enjoyed meeting Nancy and Brock in Portland before our exchange. Highly recommend an exchange with them!
Nancy and her family stayed with us in Crete. The communication with them was excellent. They looked after our house and left it in perfect condition throughout their stay. They are highly recommended.
Nancy was a great guest and I would highly recommend her for future stays. The best part about the exchange was the communication. She was prompt to contact us with any questions and patient when there were any issues that needed to be resolved. She was respectful with the house and it was a positive experience.
Nancy and her family were guests in our home in the middle of a series of back-to-back exchanges. Everything went smoothly in the transition from the prior guests to Nancy to the next guests, and the next guests indicated that everything was in great condition for their arrival.
Nancy was a great exchange partner. We look forward to future exchanges with her!
Great guest thank you
Great guests, thank you for visiting!
Nancy and Brock were kind and considerate guests. Communication with them was perfect and they took very good care of our 2 cats.
We are glad they enjoyed their stay with us and had a good time in The Netherlands.
We came home to find a bouquet of flowers and a gift waiting for us which was very much appreciated.
It was such fun meeting up with Nancy and Brock again in Berlin. They were great guests and left the apartment clean and neat. We’re glad they enjoyed their stay in Berlin and look forward to meeting up with them again in the near future.
Nancy and Brock are thoughtful guests. They stayed 2 weeks and left our apartment in a perfect condition.
Nancy and Brock were lovely to work with and real troopers when they were experiencing exchange hiccups with other partners. They were great guests and we would be happy to welcome them back. Oregon and the Pacific Northwest is the most beautiful place in the USA---if you have a chance to visit and stay in their home(s), don't miss it!
As an exchange partner, Nancy was first rate! Both before and during the exchange, communication was clear and timely, and she was always available to answer a quick question or offer useful advice. Also, her family took wonderful care of our home, leaving it so spotless, we truly couldn't tell anyone had been there in our absence. We would welcome Nancy and her family back any time, and we highly recommend them to the PLU community... as exchange partners, they are truly outstanding!
We are glad Nancy and friends enjoyed their time at our London home. Communicating with Nancy was easy and friendly. I would highly recommend them for other exchanges.
We had an incredible week long stay at the Blue Daisy house. The home is beautifully restored - you feel you’re in a bygone era but with modern comforts. We loved being out in the countryside and exploring the villages and sites nearby. Archaeological sites, museums, quaint villages, hiking, beaches and amazing food. Truly a unique experience we highly recommend.
We had an amazing visit to Kim and Yannis’ home in Aristomenis. We stayed in the upstairs main home. The home was clean, comfortable and well equipped for our week long stay. We enjoyed watching beautiful sunrises from the deck then taking a short walk into the village to get goodies from the bakery and coffee at Bella Cafe or The Mulberry. Then off to explore the region! So many great spots within a 2 hour drive from the village. Our favorites were Ancient Messene (don’t miss this site!) and the stunning beach at Voidolilia. It’s a good location to get a mix of archaeological sites, beaches and hiking. Be prepared for small winding roads throughout the area. In the evenings the European golden jackals entertained us with their unique yips and yowls along with the other critters of the village. Thanks for letting us experience your lovely piece of rural Greece.
Jessica and her family were excellent guests at our vacation home in Manzanita. She communicated well prior to and during the stay. They left our home clean and ready for our next guests (even putting out their welcome bag for us!). We're happy to welcome them back any time.
My husband and I and our daughter and her two young children (ages 1 and 4) enjoyed a week at Bryan and Julie's spacious home. They were gracious to allow us to use both the main house and the lower level guest suite and even set up a crib for our little one. They provided a terrific guide to the area and added even more suggestions appropriate for the children in our group. We loved being able to explore the woods right outside their home. The 4 year old's favorite was playing in the spa pool every day! We saw deer (with babies), bunnies and a big black bear wander through their huge back yard. It's a peaceful place to base for your trip to the Vancouver area. Thanks!
Julie, Bryan and their two children were great guests at our vacation home in Manzanita. Communication was clear and timely. Our next guests said the home was left "spic and span". We'd be happy to welcome them to stay again.
We had a wonderful stay at Liz's home in Government Camp. The home is clean, comfortable and spacious. The view from the deck is amazing! It was so handy having the pool just a short walk away - our grandkids loved it! We went for a hike to Mirror Lake located very near the house. All in all a fun and relaxing stay. We hope to do another reciprocal exchange in the future.
Glad you had a good time! Look forward to future exchanges.
This was Leslie and Hanns second stay at our home in Manzanita. They left the home clean and ready for our next guests. They even went above and beyond by repairing our vacuum that broke during their stay! We've enjoyed getting to know them during our two exchanges and hope to welcome them to Manzanita again in the future.
We were happy to host Liz, her family and friends at our 2nd home in Manzanita. We communicated well throughout the exchange process. We’re looking forward to a stay at their home at Mt. Hood soon!
We were pleased to host Shawn, Nicole and their two boys at our home in Portland. We didn't get the chance to meet as they were driving down from Victoria as we were going north to the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. They communicated well prior to and during the exchange. They left our home in great shape. I'd welcome them back in the future.
Vicki and Antonette stayed a few days at our 2nd home in Manzanita during their longer exchange at our Portland home. They were perfect guests insuring that the house was fully cleaned and ready for our next guests. They are welcome back anytime!
I've described to friends since our return that Vicki and Antonette's home is like living inside a landscape painting. The view from every room is stunning with clouds shifting and changing throughout the day. Beautiful sunsets, foggy mornings - all beautiful. It's a bird lover's paradise (I'm a novice and I identified over 20 birds from their deck and garden). Their guest suite is spacious and comfortable. The entire house was impeccably clean. Miss and Red, the cats, were loves and very easy to care for. We especially enjoyed kayaking along the gentle river in front of the house.
The location is in a very quiet country setting, but it's only a short 15 minute drive to Woerden where you can connect by train to cities throughout the region. They left us with suggestions for places to visit and connected us with a friend who took us for a hike.
This is a uniquely beautiful home and setting. Vicki and Antonette are superb exchange hosts and guests. I highly recommend a stay with them if you're visiting The Netherlands.
It was a pleasure having Vicki and Antonette as guests at our home in Portland while we were simultaneously in their home in The Netherlands. We communicated nearly every day - enjoying the adventures of each other as they progressed. They were very attentive to our home instructions and left it clean and ready for our return. We would have loved to meet in person, but alas we crossed paths in the sky! We welcome them back anytime.
We had a great 5 night stay at Hanns and Leslie’s apartment in Berlin. It’s located close to the S-Bahn for easy access into the city and to Potsdam. The apartment is clean, comfortable and quiet. Hans and Leslie were excellent hosts - they met us at the airport shuttle station and took us to the apartment. A few days later they took us for a walk in a forested park nearby and to their home for dinner. It was a pleasure getting to know them better. As Leslie has family in Portland, we hope this is not our last time to visit with them.
Mariah and her family were great guests at our home in Manzanita. Good communication with Mariah throughout. They left the house clean and ready for our next guests. They are welcome back anytime.
Thanks to Michael and Cathy for opening their apartment in Paris to us. They left lots of suggestions for places and areas to visit, many of which we would never have discovered on our own. We appreciated their help to make our 2 week stay in Paris a very enjoyable one.
Michael and his family stayed a few days at our 2nd home in Manzanita during their longer stay at our home in Portland. They left the home clean and ready for our next guests. Thanks!
Michael and Cathy were respectful guests in our home. We would welcome them back as guests if they return to Oregon.
We absolutely loved our one week stay at Andrea & Tim’s apartment in The Arsenal area of east London. The apartment was roomy and comfortable. Tall windows in the living room provided great light throughout the main floor. Being located in The Arsenal it was exceedingly quiet - very little traffic nearby. Very well located to use public transit to see the sites. The new Elizabeth (clean, air conditioned, smooth) tube line is a short walk away as is the station for the other train systems. Our favorite thought was taking the Thames Clipper boat just about a minute walk from their door. Bit pricier than a tube ride (you can use your Oyster card), but much more scenic.
Communication with Andrea was great prior to our exchange. At exchange time she connected us with Jan, her on-site support, who met us at the tube station and got us all settled in. Jan was also readily available for any questions during our stay. Made it so much less stressful especially for those first few jet lagged hours arriving and getting oriented.
We look forward to hosting Andrea and her family in Oregon sometime in the future and hope to return to her home in London one day.
Laura, David and Evan stayed at our vacation home in Manzanita, Oregon. They left the home absolutely spotless and followed every instruction in our home guide! We had great communication during the stay. They are welcome to return any time.
We had a wonderful 5 days at David and Laura’s beautiful, spacious and exceptionally clean home. We were joined by our daughter and her two young children. So many kid friendly activities to enjoy in Bend! Hiked along the Deschutes river, played at the community pool, paddle boarding at Suttle Lake, ate our way through the Saturday Farmer’s Market and visited the High Desert Museum. Our favorite though was relaxing on their big wrap around deck and watching the many birds (identified over 20 species) and critters (deer, chipmunk, squirrel, rabbit). The hot tub and swinging chair in the living room were also big hits. Communication with Laura and David was easy and clear both before and during the stay. We’d love to return in the future.
Leslie and Hanns were excellent guests at our vacation home in Manzanita, Oregon. Communication was clear and timely and they left the home in perfect condition. We had the pleasure of meeting them in person while in Portland and look forward to seeing them again when we visit Berlin later this year.
We were so pleased to get to meet Greg and Bridget for lunch at the beginning of their stay at our Portland home. After many months of communication via email it was great to get to know each other a bit more in person. They took great care of our home. Ideal guests! We'd be happy to welcome them back in the future.
Ingrid and Bjorn were ideal guests at our 2nd home in Manzanita, Oregon. Communication before, during and after the stay was clear and timely. They sent us pictures during their stay (including one of a two-prong buck deer in the yard!). They left the home spotless. Best of all, we got to meet them in person and enjoy an evening of great conversation during their stop over in Portland on the way back to Oslo. We are looking forward to a visit to their lovely vacation home in Norway - maybe 2024 - and giving them back their globe!
We enjoyed an incredible week in London at Greg and Bridget's lovely home. Located in SW London, their place is an easy train/bus ride into central London. We particularly liked the short walk through a cemetery on the way to the train - saw flocks of parakeets and one day a fox! The neighborhood has loads of options for eating out and groceries nearby as well. Close the Kew Gardens - a must see. We walked there one sunny morning, but after spending close to 5 hours exploring the expansive grounds (and getting a mini concert listening to the Gypsy Kings warming up for their performance later that night) we decided to Uber home. The house itself is clean, spacious and comfortable. Two living room areas are a bonus - especially nice if you have a larger group. Well equipped kitchen. Best of all is the garden space in the back - such a treat to have a private outdoor area. Communication with Greg was terrific. He provided an extensive information packet with helpful suggestions regarding the house and restaurants recommendations. We look forward to hosting Greg and Bridget at our home at the Oregon coast and hope we might return to their home in London in the future.
Linda and Graham were the perfect guests for our first PLU exchange. Communication prior to and during the exchange was excellent. At Linda's suggestion we co-hosted a PLU meet up in Portland prior to their trip to our home on the Oregon coast. Such fun! It's a joy to get know people, like Linda and Graham, who exemplify the true spirit of home exchanging. We hope to travel to their part of the world some day.
