General Overview

Comfortable, quiet, modern, open plan two story townhouse in a vibrant walkable neighborhood. I also co-own a large home in Manzanita on the north Oregon coast that is available for exchange alone or in combination with my Portland home.

The Space

My home is a 1,200 square foot 2 bedroom, 2-1/2 bath two story townhome located in a large apartment building built in 2017. I have my own entrance from the street with a small outdoor patio. The lower floor is open plan living room/dining room/kitchen. There is one TV with access to streaming services only. Beyond the kitchen is a half bath, the laundry facilities and the exit to covered, secure parking. The upper floor has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. One bedroom has a queen bed with an en suite bathroom (tub/shower). The second bedroom has a very comfortable fold out queen couch with a memory foam topper. This room also has a desk/work station. The 2nd full bath is a few steps away. You'll have access to a gym in the apartment building with a wide array of aerobic and weight equipment (include two Peloton bikes). There is also a game room with a ping pong table, pool table, big screen TV and more available to my guests. I have one reserved parking spot in the building's secure indoor garage. If I have my car with me during your visit, this spot will be available to you. Otherwise, parking is on the street (metered Mon-Sat 9am-7pm) or at nearby lots. I ask that guests leave the house as they found it upon departure. I currently do not have the option of paying for a cleaning service.

Guest Access

There are four steps to get from the street to the front door and 20 stairs to get from the 1st to the 2nd floor.

Notes

Pets: While I have no pets, my daughter's Australian Sheppard dog visits for a few hours a month. The house is thoroughly cleaned prior to exchanges but I want to disclose the occasional presence of a dog for those who are extremely allergic. I am open to discussing your bringing a small dog for short stays. No cats or large dogs. Children: I have two grand children ages 3 and 6 who regularly visit, so there are age appropriate child items and toys/games in the house. Given the layout of the house and the long staircase, I would not recommend the home for those with toddlers. Reviews: Note that prior to April 2026 reviews for my Portland home were for a different house in the same neighborhood.

Neighbourhood

Oregon, located in the Northwest USA, is known for its natural beauty. The western part of the state, where I live, has evergreen forests as well as farmland known for growing strawberries, hazelnuts and producing world-class wines. The central and eastern areas of the state are high desert landscape with an unmatched rugged beauty. The state borders the Pacific Ocean, just 1-1/2 hour drive from my home. Seattle, Washington is a 3 hour drive north. Portland, the largest city in Oregon, is located in the northwestern part of the state near the border with Washington State. It is a city of many bridges with the Columbia River to the north and the Willamette River running through the heart of the city. It is a vibrant, modern city with great restaurants and cultural activities while being just minutes from nature. The temperate climate makes it a wonderful place to visit in any season – although it does rain a bit in the winter! But the winter rains make for beautiful green summers. My home is located in the NW Portland neighborhood called Slabtown, an ideal location to explore the city and surrounding areas. As one of the oldest areas in Portland, you’ll find many beautiful homes built between the late 1880’s and early 1900’s as well as modern high rise apartment buildings built in the last decade. I am in the midst of one of the city’s best shopping districts with dozens of restaurants, grocery stores, places of worship and entertainment within a few blocks. Portland is famous for our micro breweries - there are several family friendly pubs within blocks. It's a short walk or street car ride to the exclusive Pearl District and downtown Portland. Also very nearby are Forest Park (the largest forested park inside a city in the USA), the Portland Rose Garden, Japanese Gardens, the Oregon Zoo, and, in the summer, an amazing farmer’s market. Portland is a great launching spot for day trips throughout the region. Here’s just a few things you can see within 1-2 hours drive from Portland: The Columbia River Gorge – exceptional hiking and mountain bike trails with majestic views of the river and gorge. Also, some of the world’s best windsurfing! Wine country – dozens of local wineries featuring Oregon’s award winning pinot noir Mt. Hood – offers year round skiing as well as spectacular areas for hiking/biking and camping. In the early summer the mountain flowers are amazing. The Oregon Coast – some of the most beautiful rugged beaches you’ll find anywhere. Oregon offers complete public access to all our beaches, so you can walk for miles. I co-own a home on the north coast in Manzanita (sleeps 9) is also available for exchange. Getting to my home

Portland International Airport (PDX) is a 30 minute drive (about $35 Lyft/Uber) and is accessible via public transit (MAX light rail). Amtrak rail service is 1 mile away at Union Station. Greyhound bus service also is at Union Station.

Nearest airport

Portland International Airport (PDX) about a 30 minute drive away.

Getting Around

Everything you need is within walking distance of my home. Many restaurants, coffee shops, brew pubs, grocery stores, exercise facilities and shops of all kinds are right on your doorstep. For exploring other parts of the city, Slabtown is very well served by public transit with several bus lines and the streetcar all within a few blocks. The nearest MAX light rail station is 1 mile away at Providence Park. Ride share (Lyft/Uber) is readily available. My 2019 Toyota RAV 4 Hybrid may also be available for exchange.
