General overview

We are offering a one bedroom guest apartment. I would describe it as spacious and comfortable. Because it is a guest apartment we are very flexible in availability.

The space

The property we are offering is a comfortable one bedroom basement apartment with a separate rear entrance that can be made available for non simultaneous or simultaneous exchanges. It is a well equipped one bedroom apartment located on the ground level of our home. The apartment consists of one bedroom with a king bed, a living room with a queen sized pull out couch, a bathroom and a galley kitchen. The kitchen has all necessary cooking equipment (refrigerator, stovetop and oven, microwave and coffee maker). This apartment is generally available year round.

Guest access

Please note: This is a basement apartment so you must enter and go down 4 stairs to access the apartment. The apartment is just below our main home but has its own private entrance at the rear of our home.

Neighbourhood

We live in a New York City suburban town that allows for easy access to Manhattan as well as the New Jersey beach areas. We are 15 minutes drive from Newark Airport. Our town has many nice shops, a theater, several pubs and cafes, many nice restaurants and several art galleries. We are a short walk or quick drive to a commuter train that will take you to midtown Manhattan, NYC within 25 minutes. During the summer months, you can also drive and spend a pleasant day at the New Jersey beach shore to enjoy the beautiful waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It is also possible to take trips to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, or Boston. The train is a direct commuter train into New York City. The station is an easy 15 minute walk from our home. If you prefer not to walk there is a van service that will drop you off and pick you up in the mornings and evenings at the end of our street (see: http://www.southorange.org/forms/sopa/MontroseJitney.pdf -- the So. Kingman Rd. & So. Orange Ave. stop is just in front of our house) We are also frequently available for train and airport pick-ups when you arrive). Please take a look at the map. I have indicated both where our home is located and where the train station is located.

Getting around

The train that leaves South Orange is a direct 25 minute commuter train into Penn Station New York City. The station is 9 blocks from our house and is an easy 15 minute walk through the Village of South Orange. If you prefer not to walk there is a van service that will drop you off at the end of our street (see: http://www.southorange.org/forms/sopa/MontroseJitney.pdf -- the So. Kingman Rd. & So. Orange Ave. stop is just in front of our house).

Jennifer

Jerry and I (Jen) are both attorneys. Jerry works in a private firm handling various civil matters and I am employed as a Child Advocate. We have three older children who will travel with us on occasion. Generally, however, it will just be the two of us. If an exchange is local we prefer to travel with our well-behaved, non-shedding, never on the furniture doodle although if the circumstances don't allow him to join us we can arrange for him to stay with family or friends. Over the past 20 plus years we have had over 65 successful home exchanges (France, Ireland (3x), Spain, Costa Rica (2x), Arizona, West Virginia, Seattle, British Columbia (3X), Florida (4x), Martinique, Iceland, California (3x), Morocco, South Africa ... just to name a few). and are looking forward to the opportunity to arrange our next exchange soon. We have thoroughly enjoyed all of our past exchanges and are adventurous and resourceful travelers. We are always seeking our next exchange! We can always be tempted by unique and interesting locations! Please note that we prefer to travel during the fall, winter and spring as we enjoy spending our summer months at our home on Cape Cod.
