Stroll (20 min) to Portsmouth for a perfect day of dining and shopping. Or take a quick ride up the coast to Kennebunkport or Ogunquit.
The Space
The perfect place to call home while you explore the glorious Seacoast of Maine and New Hampshire. The house is centrally located to everything but on a quiet side street in a perfect local neighborhood that is great for walking. Our 1,250 sq. ft. home has been lovingly renovated to be open, bright, welcoming and comfy for the entire family. The house has recently refinished hardwood floors throughout and an open concept kitchen and dining room with butcher block countertops and a huge center island for gathering.
This isn't just a characterless rental, it's our home and is meant to feel like your home with lots of personal touches to help you relax and fully enjoy your vacation.
There's one queen bedroom and one king bedroom and a full bath on the second floor. On the first floor is a big, bright comfy living room, big screen TV (with YouTube TV, Netflix, Amazon) and bookshelf stocked with some great beach reads. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything you might need to make delicious meals (spices, oils, baking basics) or Maine lobsters (pot, crackers) and we provide coffee and tea and filters for the coffee pot. A bright and breezy dining room with seating for four.
We provide essentials for those traveling with little ones including: fast table high chair to attach to the counter, a pack and play, outlet covers, silicone dining items, arts and crafts, books and a baby gate for the stairs as well as some beach supplies. We have a great selection of board games for the whole family.
Our backyard is slice of heaven with a private back deck with a patio dining set, lounger and lights for night chilling. Our sizable yard has a hammock and lovely garden full of flowers and birds - so many birds. We also leave our yard games for you to play including corn hole and we have a Bimini Ring Game set up off the deck. There's a Weber propane grill and just the right amount of privacy for a wonderful Maine escape.
NOTE: There are A/C window units in the bedrooms and a portable A/C unit in the living room, there is NO central A/C.
Guest Access
Guests will have access to the full house with exception of the basement home office where we store our stuff. Guests will have access to the basement washer/dryer area but we ask that guests do not access any other part of the basement. Guests will not have access to the larger shed in the backyard. There's a driveway with room for 2 vehicles and street parking is always an option. Please try and limit total cars to 3 out of respect for our neighbors.
Accessibility: Bathroom is on the second floor and there is a step into the main floor of the house.
Notes
We will request a $195 to be sent via Venmo or Zelle for cleaning 24 hours after check-in.
This house may not be suitable for elderly guests or those with mobility issues due to the lack of a bathroom on the first floor.
The house does NOT have CENTRAL air conditioning but we do provide window AC units in both bedrooms and fans on the first floor.
We do not have children ourselves so the house isn't "child proof" but we have made every effort to make those guests traveling with children feel welcome and safe. We provide outlet covers and cabinet locks on those cabinets with cleaning supplies.
All supplies including yard games and child gear are provided for guest convenience but are not the responsibility of host to ensure functionality, safe use or set up. Guests are solely responsible for safe set up and use of supplies. Hosts are not liable for any injury due to malfunction of supplies.

Our neighborhood and our neighbors are the best! It is a side street and not immediately in downtown which makes for a peaceful escape. The streets are all small and quiet and you can walk everywhere with sidewalks. At the end of our street is the historic Portsmouth Naval Shipyard which has been working on Navy submarines since the 1800's, we are a proud Navy town and you can hear the morning and sunset trumpet playing taps from our backyard. Kittery has it all and it's all easy to find, easy to park, and laid back and welcoming.
Through a wooded path at the end of our street to you can walk to Tributary Brewery, one of the best in the country and the Blue Mermaid Island Grill a fantastic spot for food & drinks with a Caribbean flair and awesome live music scene at night, plus Sunday Bluegrass Brunch!
You can walk into Kittery Foreside in about 10 minutes and hit up The Black Birch for the best food of your life (get the deviled eggs) and a nightcap at The Wallingford Dram, a 1920's era speakeasy. There's also Anju Noodle Bar - amazing, creative ramen and pork buns. Rudder's Public House is great for a beer, burger and the game with lots of outside seating overlooking the Naval Shipyard. The best spot to sip away the day is at Lil's fantastic coffee shop with addictively delicious cruellers. There's also our friends' whole animal local butcher shop, MEat, incredible spot for goodies for the grill. A bit further beyond the Foreside, another 10-15 min walk along the water over the Memorial bridge or 3 min. drive is downtown Portsmouth with LOTS of stuff to do, see, eat and drink.
About 10 minutes drive from the house is Kittery Point - the most gorgeous part of our town. There is the amazing Seapoint Beach for an unadulterated Maine coastal beach experience. And our absolute favorite spot on earth - Fort Foster. Fort Foster costs $10/car but once you're through the gates you will be delighted with acres of open space, trails, beaches, picnic benches, grills and the best view on the coast of Maine. There is also Fort McClary for history buffs and you got to be sure to stop at Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier on your way for fresh from the creek lobsters and BYO everything else - CLASSIC MAINE! Another great spot to visit in Kittery Point is the new Pepperell Cove restaurant laid back clam shell patio, Adirondack chairs and the best view of Portsmouth Harbor.
20-minute drive to Ogunquit’s shops and galleries. 30-minute drive to downtown Kennebunkport with loads of restaurants, shops, and waterfront. An hour north to Portland - awesome seaside city with a bustling food, beer and music scene. An hour south to downtown Boston for history and big city attractions. An hour and half drive to the start of the White Mountains National Forest and loads of hiking opportunities. An hour’s drive northwest to New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee and the lakes region. And rest of the Maine coast all the way to Acadia National Park is all within a morning’s drive!
Getting to my home
Fly into Boston, Portland or Portsmouth and rent a car. There is not public transit.
Nearest airport
Portland - 1 hour; Boston - 1 hour; Portsmouth - 10 min. If you don't want to rent a car, the best way to get to our home from Boston Logan Airport is to take the C&J Bus, it comes through Logan Airpot hourly and brings you to Portsmouth, NH is just 10 min. from our house. You can take a cab from the bus station to the house.
Getting Around
No public transit, a rental car is recommended, we may be able to arrange the use of one of vehicles.

Jill and Tim, along with their dog, Gumbo recently stayed at my house. Easy guests, and very quiet dog. Happy to have had the opportunity to exchange with them.
Jill and Tim were great guests! They fully embraced island life and we loved having them discover Montserrat! I hope we get to meet them in person when we visit them and their home in New Orleans in March. They really embody the PLU spirit. It has been great getting to know them and sharing travel stories. They took fantastic care of the house and we’d be happy to have them visit anytime!
Jill and Tim's house was a beautiful shotgun style home, typical of New Orleans. Well located, we were able to take public transit into New Orleans' business center. Lots of restaurants and shops in the neighborhood, so no need to go far! Communication with Jill and Tim was great. Looking forward to hosting them in my home in the next few weeks.
Our stay in New Orleans was made even better by the incredible hospitality of Jill and Tim. If you have a chance to exchange with them in Maine or Louisiana you must do it! There is so much to do in this city that it can take a lot to plan a visit. They’ve made it much simpler with their great website covering their house, the local attractions, and most importantly personal recommendations for eateries, music venues, and how to get around.
Jill and Tim’s house is filled with sunshine, great art, and is centrally located to everything you need. We loved taking a peek at the Mardi Gras floats stored in a nearby warehouse. Just as fun, the house is an easy walk to the trolley to the French Quarter and Garden District. During our stay we walked to parks, watched a wedding under the Tree of Life, met friendly locals, ate our way across town (and back), and had just the best time!
Jill and Tim kindly allowed us to invite a close friend to visit for a few days and their home was comfortable and spacious. They had awesome treats waiting for us and a well stocked kitchen for when we ate in.
We haven’t yet met in person, but I feel like we’ve known them for a while and will be exchanging again. Hopefully our next trip will have travel plans that overlap! Thank you Jill and Tim for an incredible stay at your home in New Orleans.

Jim and I thoroughly enjoyed our 7 night stay in New Orleans at Jill’s condo! They were gracious and we were the fortunate guests that got to open their globe. This was our 2nd visit to New Orleans and the Garden District, where this apartment is located was our favorite. It’s more quiet than the French quarter, although easily accessible by the bus stop about 4 blocks away. Which, happens to be right in front of LaBoulanger , the best French bakery and cafe ever!! So stop in there for sure!
Jill was always available for any questions and ready with suggestions of where to go.
The condo is on the 3rd (top) floor with a convenient elevator. It was very clean, and so fitting with the NOLA theme everywhere. There was a welcoming snack from, none other than our favorite bakery! We really enjoyed the balcony for morning coffee or evening glass of wine. There was a nice breeze every afternoon. There is an umbrella for shade but we did not need it in mid May. It was pleasant to hear birds, and the distant ship sounds from the river nearby . Very peaceful and relaxing vibe.
We went to the French quarter 4 different days for sightseeing, so close enough to get there but we prefer the restaurants and shops on Magazine st, 4 blocks away.
While in New Orleans, the World War 2 museum is a short distance and very fascinating as is their zoo and aquarium. The best part of New Orleans is the food and the friendly people, so having a great host is such a plus . You will have a delightful experience with this host. I felt like we were visiting good friends and we have actually not met yet. We are hoping to host them in our home soon and actually visit and meet.

This was such a spectacular experience there are barely words. Leanne and Peter's home is perfect in every way. It's so open, breezy, super clean and comfortable. They have everything you could possibly need for enjoying your stay. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, there were plenty of places to relax and the pool...amazing! We spent almost our entire time on the veranda and on the pool deck but when we did have to sleep we loved the comfy bedroom with AC (such an amazing bonus on island). The home is exactly what you'd dream an island villa would be and the view was beyond expectation. Peter and Leanne were wonderfully accommodating and kind as our travel plans shifted and made us feel so incredibly welcome introducing us to their friends. We fell madly in love with Montserrat and truly cannot wait to go back. We drank the Runaway Ghut waters so we know we will! Thank you so much Peter and Leanne!
