Neighbourhood

We live in a small town (our international friends call it a village), in which everything is a short walk or bike ride from home. (10 min walk, 2 min car trip). Darfield has a well known bakery, several modern cafes, a new small supermarket, a fresh produce shop, butchery, two petrol stations, fantastic library full of local information and a ski hire shop among it's highlights. We also have a tennis club at the end of our road, and local rugby, football, cricket fields and netball courts further along that street. 25 minutes away we have a thriving, growing town called Rolleston, where we head for our main groceries and most things we need, or 45 minutes will take you right into Christchurch with all the attractions and shops that the largest city in the South Island offers. Countdown Supermarket in Rolleston will deliver groceries to our house. Heading the other direction will take you to several great golf courses, locally 10 minutes to Hororata Golf Club or 30 minutes to the more well known Terrace Downs, which also hosts a spa and lovely restaurant. The Southern Alps offer many opportunities for hikes, mountain biking, rock climbing or skiing, within an hour from our home. Nearest airport

Christchurch International Airport (CHC) is a 35 minute drive from our house.

Getting Around

A car is essential for living in Darfield. It is very simple to rent one from the airport on your way here. We are unsure about exchanging ours, but that is a possibility.
