This house is full of color and light. There is a large front porch for people watching and a quiet, elevated back deck below an old oak tree that feels like a tree house. The house is over 100 years old with original floors and typical double shotgun architecture (it’s been converted to a single family home.).
The space
It’s set up for kids with bunk bed (full on bottom, twin on top, plus a toddler bed and fold out bassinet. Master bedroom has a queen bed and adjacent full bath. Kids have half bath. Dining table seats 6. Also has small office.
Guest access
One floor but a full flight of stairs to access the house.

Neighbourhood
The neighborhood is called Esplanade Ridge or Treme-Lafitte. I’m across the street from the rectory of the Episcopal church so it stays pretty quiet. It’s 10 minutes from the French Quarter and about 7 to City Park. It has definitely gentrified but not as intensely as some other parts of the city and still feels like New Orleans.
Getting to my home
There is a bus running on Esplanade Ave two blocks away but it only comes hourly. There’s parking in the driveway but no garage if you have a car.
Nearest airport
MSY. Half an hour.
Getting around
There are bikes for rent, and newly paved bike lanes. Also the aforementioned bus. Several coffee shops and breakfast spots within a 5 minute walk. Restaurants are mostly 10 minutes on foot. Check out 1000 figs, Pagoda, and Leo’s Breads. It’s very walkable, unlike most American cities. Flagpole has snowballs that your kids will ask for daily, and coffee to sustain you.

It’s me and three little ones. Before kids, I traveled regularly. I am trying to teach them about community and the beauty of talking to strangers.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
