General overview

Modern 2 bedroom flat just outside the city centre. This was my first home that I lived in for 13 years so holds sentimental value! The flat is now completely clear of any personal items and is used when I stay in Edinburgh (I live in Midlothian now) or for family to come and visit. Pictures will be updated shortly as it’s just being fully repainted. There are dining chairs…I just had taken photos before they arrived!

The space

The main bedroom has a king sized bed, bedside tables and fitted wardrobe with plenty of space. There’s also a chest of drawers. The smaller bedroom has a small double bed (120cm). This is really only suitable for 1 adult or 2 small children. I don’t recommend it for 2 normal sized adults although I will leave that to your discretion. It has been used for this but personal choice! Also plenty of storage space in here with drawers and a fitted wardrobe, as well as a work desk and chair so could be used an an office if you’re travelling and working remotely. There’s a large living/dining room with TV with smart features. Dining table for 4. The kitchen is small but has everything you’ll need for your stay. No coffee machine as worktop space is limited but probably happy to provide one if you wanted (I know coffee is essential to some people!) The bathroom has a bath and shower over. Free parking on street and in residential parking area behind the building. Unlimited high speed wifi. The flat will be made up with all bed linen and a supply of towels. There will be a couple toilet rolls, hand soap, washing liquid…all the essentials really. As it’s not my main residential home it won’t have cooking essentials of any kind unless there’s some leftover in the cupboards.

Guest access

1st floor, no lift so not wheelchair accessible. I’m not overly keen on same day changeovers but if it ends up like that then I’ll arrange an arrival time with you. I will either meet you at the flat, or depending on time of arrival it might be my husband.

Neighbourhood

Located in the Restalrig area, it’s a normal residential area of Edinburgh but quite close to city centre. You can walk (under 30 minutes to Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace) or there’s also an amazing bus service. There’s a local supermarket round the corner (or large one which I prefer a little further…15 minute walk). There’s also a local Greggs bakery.

Getting to my home

If coming by plane or train and have luggage with you I’d just recommend getting a taxi. They’re not expensive and will get you her relatively quickly. If wanting to take public transport it will take around 1 hour and you would get the Airlink 100 to Princes Street then a local bus straight to the flat. The flat is at the opposite side of the city to the airport so you’d travel through town. A bus would also take you directly from the train station to the flat in under 15 minutes.

Getting around

You could walk everywhere if you wanted. It’s under 30 minutes to the bottom of Royal Mile or under 45 minutes to Edinburgh Castle. If you’re not a fan of walking (Edinburgh is a fairly hilly city!) then there’s buses that take you everywhere!

Lisa

My family are me (Lisa, 37), my husband (Martin, 42) and daughter (Indie, 2). Will also potentially travel with my parents (in their 60s). As we would be travelling with a young child I won’t be able to consider really far away destinations at the moment or those that would require significant travel from an airport or multiple flights to reach you from Edinburgh. Actively looking to spend globes on: UK or European city centre for February (3-7 nights between 10-17th) UK or European city centre for Easter holidays sometime possibly (shorter stay as need to be in Edinburgh 6th and 13th April). UK breaks anytime but ideally within 3 hours of Edinburgh/Midlothian by car, train or plane. A week in Spain for my parents in June 2024.
