Leysin is a quiet but very international village on top of a Swiss alp, facing south for wonderful light. It's in the French speaking region and is known as a very sporty village with a variety of options: hiking, paragliding, mountain biking, mountain climbing, via ferrata, swimming pool, tennis, mini-golf and even a year round large ice skating rink and lots more! It's a mountain for all seasons, where 3 Olympic medalists live! More info:

There are 3 international boarding schools in this small town, and most people speak enough English to get by. There are several good restaurants within a brisk walk, and a free bus shuttle that stops near the apartment 8 times a day.
And for the gourmet travelers, Leysin has an annual gourmet festival "Village Alpin de Gout" and wonderful local products:

The studio is about a 5-8 minute walk from the train station, so it’s convenient for those traveling EU by train. You don’t really need a car.

The famous Lac Leman (AKA Lake Geneva) is just at the foot of the mountain, about 20 mins by train. The lake beaches there are lovely! The one by Chateau de Chillion is my personal favorite :-)

Leysin is a true Swiss mountain village. The streets are very safe, and will definitely keep you in good shape! There is a free shuttle that stops near the chalet (2 min walk) that does a circuit around town. E-bikes and mountain bikes are very popular here, and there are a couple of sport gear rental shops in town. There is a local taxi service if needed.
