General overview

Our home is a ten minute drive from Santa Fe. Very private with a beautiful garden and lots of citrus trees. John and I lived in this home while we built our current home about a mile away. We only use this house to home exchange so it's almost always available. Try us! Santa Fe is still off the beaten track, but is increasingly coming on the radar as the road to the Caribbean side is now finished. There is no lack of things to do if you like the outdoors. Kayaking and horseback trips can be arranged. Santa Fe is known for our orchids and butterflies. Our area is simply beautiful at all times of year. We also offer our cabin in the community of El Salto which is accessible via a two hour walk or a four wheel drive taxi. The waterfalls are some of the best in the area. In the rainy season it may not be possible to access the cabin. We put a lot of work into readying the house for exchangers so do not accept requests for less than a week. We also ask for a $75 dollar cleaning fee.

The space

The home is small, but well designed and comfortable for four people. The terrace has hammocks and beautiful views of the mountains. There is a covered rancho, with hammocks, to enjoy the view.

Guest access

The house is all on one floor. There are a couple of steps to access the house from the sidewalk.

Notes

We have an excellent internet signal through Starlink which allows streaming video on your device or the small television in the house.

Neighbourhood

Our neighbors are wonderful Panamanians. Very few people speak English so a little Spanish is helpful. Santa Fe is mountainous. There are countless rivers and waterfalls to explore. We are a birders paradise and can arrange professional guides if you like. Or you can just head out with a pair of binoculars...

Getting to my home

Most people fly into Tocumen International (Pty) in Panama City to spend a few days before traveling on to Santa Fe. Buses run to Santiago every half hour from Panama City (4 hours). Or you can rent a car which is very useful for seeing the country and getting around our area. Four wheel drive is not necessary. I can arrange for a driver to pick you up in Santiago, take you grocery shopping, and bring you to our home outside of Santa Fe. The road to Santa Fe from Santiago can be challenging. A new road is being built, but in the meantime the road is bad. Getting to Santa Fe is part of the adventure!

Nearest airport

Most of our guests fly into Tocumen International Airport (PTY) to spend a few days in Panama City before traveling on to Santa Fe

Getting around

We are open to exchanging our Isuzu D Max pick up truck. The local bus transport passes by the gate approximately every 1-2 hours between 6 am and 6pm. Taxis are available from Santa Fe for $7. The hiking is extraordinary if you are walkers.

Janet

John and I have been home exchanging for over 15years and love this way of traveling. We've lost count but I think we've done over 100 exchanges all over the world. We're adventurous people who look for places off the beaten path. But we enjoy cities and are open to just about anywhere. Sometimes we travel with another couple or our adult children.
