People Like Us Local Guide
Happy to help visitors make the most of their trip to the Virgin Islands.
What an adventure, what a location, what a house and what hosts!
The kids refused to go home, and we weren’t far from either. Staying at Jenny’s and Michael’s fantastic villa on St Thomas has been the event of a lifetime for innately cold and freezing Norwegians. The house boasts 3 large bedrooms with separate bathrooms, and to top it of they also have a great pool house with everything a couple could need for nice living in the Virgin Isles.
The house has an astounding view, and many evenings and days were spent reading and watching rain showers glide across the ocean. The pool was great and the garden mangos and pineapples were extremely tasty. However, for the family including the allergic Niklas, the real owner, Kia the Cat, was the absolute star of our stay!
For food afficionados like us, meeting likeminded people across the Atlantic was great – and the kitchen had everything we could ever need to create great dinners and just enjoy the local delicacies. The ample welcome basket lasted our whole trip, and Michael and Jenny had even managed to find gluten free flour for our youngest son!
The communication has been top notch since the first time we spoke some 18 months ago, prior to the Fishers coming to our cabin at Ål. Nothing was difficult and everything was possible, recommendations for food, activities and sights were shared openly, which absolutely increased the value of our stay.
As we did last year in Norway, we managed to meet up with Jenny and Michael prior to leaving the isles. They can come anytime! We will definitely meet again 😊
Michael and Jenny were wonderful guests and we hope they’ll return again someday. We had so much fun communicating with them, seeing photos, and the things they most loved about our area.
We only wish we could have had some overlap to spend some time together! They are just the most fun and lovely people, and why we love PLU so much.
We had the pleasure of hosting Michael and his excellent family (“the Fishers”) for 3 weeks in July this year. Their stay took PLU hosting to another level as far as we are concerned.
The Fishers treated the house with utmost care, and left it to us in splendid shape.
The interaction with them was great, and we look forward to keeping the relation in the future. This stay really shows the potential to connect through PLU!
From the minute we connected on FaceTime prior the exchange, we talked, laughed and really enjoyed meeting them.
Michael and his family are very well travelled, and are very open to sampling local delicacies. It became almost a challenge to find food that would really test their palate - since they tried everything from matured brown goat cheese (which can smell like wet wool, taste like sheep and get stuck your palate) to ‘Fårikål’ (look it up, it tastes better than it looks) as well as reindeer (sorry Santa). For some strange, seasonal reasons they did not get to try Rakfisk or Pinnekjøtt, which gives them a very good reason to come back. We will gladly open our doors!
Not only did they threat the house well, they also treated us well - and invited us for dinner when we were passing through the area on the way from the west coast to Oslo. A great meetup and we look forward to meeting them again next summer in the Virgin Islands!
There should probably be some form of contest to be allowed to host them :-).
We absolutely loved having Michael and his family stay in our Copenhagen home. We can't wait to visit our new friends in St. Thomas. They are a gorgeous, warm-hearted family.
Michael, Jenny, Kaden and Ellie were perfect guests. They looked after our home as if it were their own and we were happy to have them.
We would certainly recommend for any house swap.
David and Michaela
Barbara came with her sister and they were absolutely wonderful. Super lovely people and they took great care of the cottage. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future.
Where to begin… Anne and Gregor are kind, generous, and the sweetest people. Their home in Monteleone d’Orvieto is amazing. Idyllic, charming, incredibly comfortable and very well done. The town is the quintessential small Italian village on a hill with stunning panoramic views. The area has so much to offer and is centrally located between Rome, Florence, Tuscany, and Umbria. We could not have asked for a better exchange or for better exchange partners.
Niklas, Ingvill, and their family were wonderful guests! They are so thoughtful and took great care of the house (and our cat!). This is the type of family you want to spend time with, as they are such amazing people. We look forward to many exchanges with them in the future.
Anne was a fabulous guest! It was great to get to know Anne, as well as her daughter and grand daughter. Anne is kind, thoughtful, and considerate. She is easy to talk to and instantly felt like a friend we had known for years. Anne was a great communicator from the start - really an ideal exchange partner. She took great care of our guest house and we can’t wait to stay and her and Gregor’s house in Italy!
Magical. Simply spectacular. Niklas and Ingvill are wonderful people and their home is amazing. The location is ideal for relaxing, unwinding, and spending time in nature and with family. We are already thinking about our return trip and cannot wait to see Ingvill and Niklas when they visit the Virgin Islands!
Gitte is an amazing person whose warmth and friendliness are felt from the moment you enter her home. We absolutely loved our time in Copenhagen and Gitte's home was ideal for our stay. The location and neighborhood are perfect and incredibly convenient. The home itself had everything we needed plus some. Gitte was so responsive and welcoming. In fact, we cannot wait to spend time with Gitte and her daughter when they visit us in the Virgin Islands!
Thank you so much, Michael and family. It was such a pleasure having you here. You are very thoughtful and caring people - and you left my home absolutely spotless, and with beautiful gifts!
It makes me happy that your stay here was successful and that everyone enjoyed it. I love your warmth as a family and that you shared photos of things you experienced during your stay. Made me feel part of your family.
We simply can't wait to visit you in the Virgin Islands - we count you as our new friends <3
We loved our time in David and Michaela's home! The location was great - a peaceful neighborhood with easy access to Helsinki. We felt right at home and would definitely visit again. Thanks so much, David and Michaela!
