General overview
Family friendly vacation home in a great location and fun get-away in all seasons! Tire swing, lots of movies, games, books and Foosball. Walk to pond/swimming pool/ tennis/ pickleball and basketball courts.
Upgraded kitchen with granite counters. New A/C, a stove/oven, and remodeled both bathrooms during the pandemic.
Arnold is wonderful! Our cabin backs up to Calavaras Big Trees State Park ( http://parks.ca.gov/?page_id=551 ) and is fabulous for hiking and exploring. Historic town of Murphys is about 20 minutes downhill https://visitmurphys.com/ and totally worth your time to visit!
We also have a game room with a pool table, darts, tv and music. It is not kid friendly, but fun for us big kids! (alcohol on the shelf, sharp darts, our private ski equipment is stored, and the room is only suitable for 20 yrs+).
In Arnold, there are great restaurants, wineries and activities in town. We also have a distillary winning awards all around the country! https://www.hinterhausdistilling.com/
There are places to rent kayaks, bikes, e-bikes, stand up paddle boards, etc.
The pool is an easy 5 min walk, and the HOA has a snack shack, full restaurant, tennis, pickle ball, basketball, horse shoes, a swimming pond, etc. It's a lot of fun!
The deck is new so my photos do not show patio furniture, but it's all put back together now.
The cabin is about 30 minutes from Lake Alpine which is over the top beautiful! There are also many other lakes, ponds, rivers (Stanislaus is not far), fishing, etc. You'd also like The Luberoom - website does not have great photos but they have summer concerts, corn hole, and it's a fun place with good food. https://www.theluberoom.com/
The cabin is located in Calavaras County, close to Murphys https://www.gocalaveras.com/itinerary/high-sierra/arnold/
The space
Cabin is at 4,300 foot elevation in the most desired Blue Lake Springs neighborhood in the town of Arnold, about a 2.5-3 hrs from San Francisco or San Jose. The cabin is across the street from the pool/pond/lodge. Minutes to Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Bear Valley Ski Resort is about 30 minutes away depending on conditions. This cabin is on one of the first roads plowed and has easy Hwy 4 access to Bear Ski Resort. The house is about 2 hours from the valley floor in Yosemite. Winter is great, but my favorite time of year is Spring, Summer and Fall with hiking and swimming!
Guest access
Stairs up to the main level. Great room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms (the "Bear Room" and the "Reindeer Room").
Upstairs loft has 2 double beds and a twin and a full bathroom. The washer and dryer are located downstairs from the main level.
Notes
* There is a fee to use the lodge facilities.
* We have a game room that is typically ONLY for our use because it is not child safe. If there are no kids, or you feel comfortable, we can open the gameroom to you, but it's not child safe (alcohol, darts, poker table leaned against the wall, and access under the house to tools, supplies, etc.).

Neighbourhood
The neighborhood is filled with trees, cabins and wildlife and is across from the Snowflake Lodge, pool, pond, tennis courts, basketball courts and snack shack. There are lots of hikes nearby and the back of the house backs up to Calaveras Big Trees State Park in California. In town there are several cute coffee shops, nice restaurants, a distillary, a well stocked grocery store and sporting stores.
Getting to my home
The cabin is about a 3 hour drive from our main home in the Bay Area. It is also about 3 hours from the San Francisco airport.
The house is a few minutes from Hwy 4.
Nearest airport
San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland or Sacramento airports are each about 2-3 hours away.
Getting around
You will need a car. In the winter (Dec - March) you'll want 4-wheel drive and/or chains if there is any snow in the forecast.

Roxanne did an exchange with us at our place in January 2024. She was a wonderful guest. She was respectful of the property and very easy to communicate with.
Roxanne was an excellent guest. She took good care of our house, and left it in perfect condition. She volunteered to water household plants in our absence, too. She stayed in touch throughout the visit, and was very communicative. I wouldn't hesitate to have her again!
Penny and Paul were wonderful hosts and we throughly enjoyed our stay. Prior to our visit they answered our questions and provided suggestions and recommendations. The house was clean and comfortable and everything I hoped for with our exchange. We look forward to hosting their family at our place in the summer time (non-sim exchange) and hope they will have as nice of a stay as we enjoyed at their property. I highly recommend planing an exchange with Penny and Paul!
Helen's house in Morro Bay was really wonderful!
We were very comfortable and thorougly enjoyed the location, as well as her comfie furniture, beds and very nice gardens.
The kitchen has pretty granite counters and everything we needed for our stay. The views out the windows are just beautiful.
Helen left a booklet filled with good information - including a directions to find a great hike right up the road that offers 360 degree spectacular views. The Central Coast is one of the prettiest areas in California and my mom, sister and I had a fabulous stay.
Helen was very generous and left goodies for us upon our arrival - and even decorated her home for the Fall season even though they were out of the country. I thought they were the perfect hosts and would recommend setting up a stay at Helen's place in Morro Bay.
Anyone would be very lucky to stay here!
Shane and his family are really lovely people and I look forward to the day they can visit. Even though their trip has been pushed out due to the Covid pandemic, we still keep in touch on What's App and his wife shares pictures from Australia. One day they will come to California and we will finally get to meet in person!!
