General overview
Town House in a small gated , very safe, complex. You'll have a remote to access the complex gate. Only 10 units inside the gated area. (The other 10 units have street access, whilst these 10 have security gate access). Tucked away in the leafy, quiet neighborhood of Amandaglen in Durbanville. The complex has a wall surrounding it with electric fencing.
The space
2x bedrooms:
(the 3rd is used as a home office, and will be kept locked with everything we'll declutter to make space for guests in the cupboards).
• Main bedroom - queen size bed, TV with full DSTV bouquet (this is a 2nd DSTV, not connected to the lounge, but it is linked to the guest bedroom meaning that both these can change channels although they'll always watch the same program at the same time). Aircon & wall/panel heater. Hairdryer.
• Guest bedroom - Queen size bed, TV with DSTV (see description under Main bedroom). Wall/panel heater. Hairdryer.
2x bathrooms:
• Main en-suite with corner bath, shower, double vanity, toilet. Extractor fan.
• Guest bathroom with shower, single basin, toilet. Extractor fan.
Small passage from where Guest bedroom & bathroom leads has a linen & towel closet for everything you'll need (spare linen & towels & beach mats and beach towels).
Open-plan lounge & dining area.
• Lounge
The front door opens up to the open-plan lounge-dining area.
• Dining room has a direct access sliding door to the undercover patio. 10-Seater table. A cupboard containing all the tablecloths, bowls, platters and placemats you'll need.
These two rooms are also open plan to the adjacent two rooms: Kitchen & TV lounge.
Garage:
There also is a door in the lounge giving direct access to the garage where the tumble dryer, washing machine, dri-buddy and pre-paid electritity box is situated. The garage door is remote controlled. Our house is not really child friendly as the yard out back is small and the patio has stairs. We do have some baby goodies: a pram and some toys, bottle sterilizer. Also have a couple of beach chairs.
Kitchen & TV Lounge:
• TV lounge has TV with full DSTV bouquet (separate from bedrooms) and wifi TV access to YouTube, Netflix and Showmax. Direct access security gated sliding door to the outside undercover patio.
• Another sliding door between the TV area and kitchen leading to the side of the house: bins & 2x fold-up washing lines and the outside door leading to the garage. Aircon on wall between TV lounge & kitchen.
• Kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave oven, oven, double sink, fridge-freezer, coffee filter machine (ground coffee), coffee pod duo machine (small pods), coffee grinder, milk frother, kettle, toaster, all necessary kitchen appliances. Nothing fancy though, we've downscaled when the kids got married and are spending our money on traveling now 🤣.
You'll have more than enough white crockery, cutlery and everything else you'll need. Also a water purifier tap, although it's hardly used as our water here in Cape Town is very clean and has an awesome fresh taste, so no need for buying purified / bottled water.
Patio:
Gas Barbeque and Weber Braai (wood / charcoal), 6-seater patio table & chairs. The roof can open up / tilt to let sunlight in or keep the rain out. Tranquil place all year round. Small back garden.
Gardener comes in weekly (included). He's been working in this garden for 16+yrs.
Domestic:
She's been working for us for 19yrs. She'll come in once a week (included) to change & wash bedding / towels and mop & vacuum quickly and clean the bins. She'll do a full clean after you depart, so no need for you to clean when leaving. We pay her salary, but you're welcome to tip her.
We have no indoor plants or animals for you to take care of. The gardener waters the garden weekly. You'll only need to sprinkle the small front & back garden if it's Summer / hot.
Our washing machine has an extension outlet pipe, the water runs onto the grass out back in an effort to save water.
Guest access
Single story. Open plan double volume ceilings in living areas. All tiled except for bedrooms which are carpeted.

Neighbourhood
Our home is walking distance to the end of the street where you'll find a small village mall with small shop (if you run out of anything) and a hairdresser.
5minutes drive to local Glengarry Shopping Centre containing various restaurants, pharmacy, dentist, clothing store and grocery stores like Woolworths & Pick n Pay amongst others - open and undercover parking.
Just up the road from there (2min) you'll find more malls and shops: Spar for groceries, restaurants, petrol garages, etc.
10min down the road are various big malls of which the largest is Cape Gate Sopping Centre with cinemas, Pick n Pay and Checkers and a gazillion other shops. Also Makro, Giant and Spar opposite the road.
From our home approx 10 to 15min in the other direction is another very big mall: Tyger Valley Centre with cinemas, and Willowbridge Centre opposite to it.
In Durbanville town (village) are many malls, shops, eateries, butcheries, Medi Clinic Hospital, etc. 10min. Durbanville is located in the Durbanville Wine Route, you'll be spoiled for choice. The wine farms don't only do tastings and sell wine, but have some lovely Restaurants and wine tours. Many have mountain bike and hiking tracks.
Durbanville also is a quick drive to the Stellenbosch or Franschoek wine routes - also has a wine Tram so you won't need to drive. Just outside Stellenbosch you'll find the Hillcrest Berry Orchard and restaurant, Strawberry farms, Spice Route near Paarl, etc.
The N1 highway is approx 5min from our home. That gives you easy access to:
Stellenbosch (40min) / Franschoek / Somerset West / Gordons Bay / Grabouw / Hermanus (Whale Route/ wine valley) or in the other direction to Cape Town (city) approx 30min depending in traffic. That's where you'll find the V& A Waterfront (stand up paddle rental, Canal cruise, Harbour cruise, ocean cruise, high tea at various Waterfront hotels, malls, restaurants, scratch patch, etc), Kirstenbosch Gardens with restaurants or picnic, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, Aquarium (dive with the sharks), Cape Castle, Noon Gun, Open Top Bus Tours (hop om hop off), and adjacent scenic drive from Sea Point to Camps Bay, Llundudno, Hout Bay, Chapmans Peak Drive, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Fish Hoek, Simon's Town (Boulders Beach penguins). Or from the city head over Kloof Road. Drive to Signal Hill for a spectacular view of Robben Island, city, Sea Point, etc, or park and hike up Lions Head. You can also choose to take a return cable cart up & down Table Mountain or hike up and cable cart down. On top of Table Mountain is abseiling, hiking, free guided tours, explore in your own, a restaurant, shops, etc and from signal hill you can do paragliding. You'll also pass the mega shopping centre: Canal Walk at Century City - 20min from our home and also Grand West Casino in Goodwood where the ice rink is located. Just too much to do and see to mention here. I'll compile a file. Make sure to spend enough time here.
We suggest you get a Cape Town City Pass which includes entry to most things to do and see and citywide transport and open top buss and boat trips. Great value for money.
Beach: Blouberg, Big Bay or Melkbos (both awesome surf spots) - 20min. Kitesurfing / surfboard rentals.
Or head to Strand beach: 40min or Muizenberg (surfers paradise).
Getting to my home
Fly to Cape Town International Airport. Rent a car to pick up at the airport.
Take the N1 highway, Durban Road exit. Turn left into Durban Road. Way up past Tyger Valley Centre, right into Vygeboom Road. Drive past Sonstraal Dam turn right into Hebron Street, left into Fisant Street (at the shop), right into Swan Street. Hebron Park is located on the right as Swan Street makes a bend.
Nearest airport
Cape Town International.
Getting around
Rent a car at airport or anywhere else.
It'll be more expensive than renting a car I think, but Uber and Bolt is readily available.
Small village store is walking distance.
Uber is reasonably priced and waiting time usually never exceeds 15min.
There is a bus stop opposite the shop at the end of the road, but public transport in South Africa isn't great except within in the city region.

Oh Terri, thank you. You were an absolute delight to host. We had a lot of fun. And if you can use "lekker" in a sentence, then we've done our job well 😄
Wow, this is the second time we have done an exchange with Chris and Michelle. It was just wonderful to see them again, and we consider them really good friends. Their home is amazing, and South Africa is the most breathtaking and extraordinary country to visit. We highly recommend an exchange with Michelle and Chris. We can’t wait to see them again, hopefully in Canada, or really anywhere in the world.
We had a wonderful globe exchange with Michelle and Chris. Firstly they are kind, generous people who are a lot of fun and we were lucky enough to spend a couple of days together and they are now new friends.
The house had everything we needed, and they gave us lots of helpful ideas of places to visit and even drove us around to show us where things are.
It's a great area, close to wine farms, Cape Town and even the beach and we just loved it !
They'll always be welcome in our house in Scotland and we would highly recommend this couple, their house, and the area. It was just great ....
Thank you so much! Muriel & Paul. We miss you already. Thank you for spoiling us with wonderful gifts and friendship. Can't wait to see you again. Our doors will always be open to you.
