General overview
My loft, in the center of Brussels, is both design and warm. It is on the 2nd floor of a former leather workshop, set back from a pleasant busy avenue which gives it a lot of calm. The elevator arrives directly in the loft. The entrance hall, the kitchen and the living room form an open space. The first bedroom, equipped with a double bed, closes with a classic door. The second bedroom (with a comfortable sofa bed for two people and a cot) and the bathroom close with beautiful sliding doors which we often leave open to benefit from the feeling of space. As I love to cook, the kitchen is particularly well equipped (conventional oven + steam oven, gas cooker with 6 burners...). All the fittings are of high quality and the floor of the entire loft is covered with oak parquet. Two great positive points of our loft: the calm and the surprising view from the large living room window (the bedrooms have a different orientation): a wide view of the Marolles district and ... of the trains. Rest assured, they drive slowly and the sound insulation is excellent. Their passage at window height, but set back, is magical and in the evening, with their interior lighting, you will have the impression of seeing a film roll. they are the admiration of all our visitors and although I know them well, I continue to be fascinated.
My loft, in the heart of Brussels, is at the same time stylish and warm. It is situated at the second floor of a former leather clothing business, and is standing back from a pleasant avenue which makes it especially quiet. The lift leads directly into the loft. The entrance hall, the kitchen as well as the dining and sitting rooms are all part of a single open space. The first bedroom, equipped with a double bed, closes with a conventional door. The second bedroom (with a comfortable sofa bed for two persons as well as a bed for a baby or small child) and the bathroom close with nice sliding doors that we often leave open so as to maximize the feeling of space. As I love cooking, the kitchen is particularly well equipped (conventional oven + steam oven, gas stove with 6 burners…). All equipment is of high quality and the all the loft is covered with an oak floor. Two big assets of our loft are: its quietness and a surprising view through the large window of the sitting room (the sleeping rooms have a different orientation): providing a wide view on the area of the Marolles (a typical district of Brussels) and … trains. Don’t be afraid, they move slowly (as they are near the Brussels Midi train station that is less than 1 km away) and the sound insulation is very effective. Instead of bothering you, their passage at the height of the window some 30 meters away, is something really magical, especially in the evening when the illuminated carriages pass by. You will have the feeling that a movie is scrolling in front of you. Every visitor is in admiration and even although now used to seeing them, i continue to be fascinated.

Neighbourhood
My loft is at just 10 minutes walk from the Midi Railway Station (Brussels main train station), right in the heart of Brussels. This allows to reach by foot all places of interest, like the Big Square (Grand Place) and its surroundings (10 minutes), the Royal Palace and a variety of Museums (15 minutes), the Grand Sablon Square for the antique dealers (15 minutes), St Catherine Square for good restaurants and fashion shops (15 minutes). You also benefit from easy and close access to public transport facilities: tramway's, metros and trains. As for the Avenue where we live (Avenue de Stalingrad) it is at the same time classic and rich in colour, and leads into a nice square with friendly café terraces (250 meters from the loft). All food purchases can be done nearby (excellent fish shop, groceries, a covered market specialized in organic food).
My loft is located 10 minutes walk from the Gare du Midi, in the hyper center of Brussels, which allows you to reach the most beautiful places on foot, such as the Grand Place and its surroundings (10 min), the Royal Palace and museums (15 min), Grand Sablon for antique dealers (15 min), Sainte-Catherine for good restaurants and designer boutiques (15 min)... There is also easy and close access to public transport :trams, metros and trains. As for the avenue where I live, it is both classic and colorful and leads to a pretty square, with very pleasant terraces. All food shopping can be done nearby (extra fishmonger, grocery stores, covered organic market, etc.)
From the nearby stations, you can easily reach, for a one-day visit, all the beautiful historic cities such as: Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Louvain, Mechelen, Liège, Namur, Tournai, etc.
Getting to my home
Parking is complicated for cars. The best is to use public transport, all very close to my home
Nearest airport
From Brussels airport, a train takes you in 25 minutes to Brussels-Midi station and there in 10 minutes on foot you are at home
If you arrive from Charleroi airport, a bus will take you directly to the Gare du Midi
Getting around
All public transport is nearby, but I recommend visiting on foot

We had a really fantastic time at Raymonde's place in Brussels - Her apartment is so spacious and airy, so light-filled and incredibly comfortable. We slept really well in cozy beds and had a great kitchen in which to cook anything we liked. The location of Raymonde’s apartment is terrific – it’s about a 12 - 15 minute walk from the Grand Place and about a 5 minute walk from Gare du Midi. it was really useful to be close to this station from which we were able to take the trains we needed to travel to Bruges, Antwerp and Luxembourg.
The area around Avenue de Stalingrad is friendly and lively and filled with cafes, restaurants and fantastic food shops - we had everything we needed within a few minutes’ walk.
Brussels is a wonderful city with an amazing array of interesting places and things to do - we felt so fortunate to be able to return to Raymonde's lovely home each evening after long and busy days - This for us was a really excellent exchange.
A perfect welcome, superb accommodation with high quality services, in the heart of Brussels, full of little touches to facilitate the stay, ... In addition, Raymonde, who is an experienced regular in exchanges, is very friendly (we spent two evenings very pleasant in his company)
Raymonde is a perfect host, she came to the station and waited for our train to pick us up even though she didn't have to. She is a very positive and trustworthy person, a pleasure to communicate with. Her apartment is enormous, beautiful, clean, stylish and the bed is super comfortable. It's next to a very busy trainline which we really liked. The world passing by your window while you are in s super comfortable apartment. Raymonde provides plenty of tips for visiting Brussels. Recommended strongly!
It was a pleasure to exchange homes with Raymonde - she was really helpful and all of her information and instructions were so clear. She very kindly asked a lovely friend of hers to greet us on arrival and he was able to go through everything so carefully and thoughtfully with us - we were very grateful for this really generous gesture.
We had frequent communications by e-mail and telephone beforehand and we were able to easily make contact with one another during the exchange itself if either of us needed anything - although we didn't get the opportunity to meet on this occasion, it was really a pleasure to interact with Raymonde all the way through!
While we were in Brussels, Raymond was in Dublin in our home and of course she left it in perfect condition as we knew she would! We would have no hesitation in exchanging with Raymonde at any time again in the future and highly recommend this lovely lady and her lovely home two other PLUers interested in visiting Brussels.
Raymonde was a perfect and very friendly guest. Perfect exchange from start to finish. THANKS.
I found the house in absolutely perfect condition!
During the holiday season, I had the chance to enjoy a superb stay in Dublin with John, Mary and Kena. It is easy and pleasant to enjoy, without a car, Dublin and its surroundings from their house which I found very cozy and warm. We were not able to meet, but the exchanges by email and sms made me discover kind and caring people.
Everything went very well with me and without hesitation, I can say that they are trustworthy people
I have just spent a wonderful week with Jean-Louis and Chantal. Their house is full of charm, originality; there is an atmosphere that matches them. Their welcome is attentive and generous. Les Vans is a very beautiful place, a protected nature and many beautiful villages of character in the surroundings and for the gourmands, one can easily find delicious products to taste there. In summary, a perfectly successful exchange..
Jean-Louis and Chantal were the perfect guests at my house. I thank them wholeheartedly.
I have just spent an extended WE in Roemer's house in Amsterdam and I am delighted. First of all, concluding an exchange with Roemer is very easy and the communication is pleasant. Then the house of Roemer is located in a very interesting district, outside the tourist flow but which allows to reach by beautiful walks along the canals all the centers of interest of Amsterdam. I followed Roemer's advice for a restaurant (Bloem) and visits (maritime museum...) and a concert at the Concertgebouw. Roemer's house is very well laid out, orderly and particularly pleasant to live in (reading and dreaming on the bench seat near the windows with a view of a canal and beautiful houses is a must). Thanks to Roemer and Carol for the attentions (wine, homemade cookies…). It is the pleasure of the exchanges. Back home in Brussels, I found my loft in perfect condition. In summary, a magical exchange
Thank you so much Raymonde, it was a pleasure to have you and to stay at your amazing apartment!
Roemer took care of my home perfectly. I am delighted

The Grand Place in Brussels, beautiful at all hours of the day
Reflection of the Grand Place in a puddle. By being at my place, you will often have the opportunity to spend there and you will go from surprise to surprise
Close to the Magritte museum, in a little frequented square
The Sainte Catherine district, beautiful and pleasant. I go there almost every day
A detail of a Horta hotel, in the Sablon district, near my home
The MIM, the music museum, sometimes free concerts at lunchtime and a beautiful panoramic terrace (reservation preferable)
The Royal Palace seen from the Brussels park
Petit Sablon park, a haven of peace
In the land of comics, a lot of “murals”. Here, in the Marolles district, very close to my home
