Quartiere

Our home is considered rural and coastal. This is not a "tourist" location. Reedville, Virginia is one of America's oldest fishing villages and life revolves around the water. The body of water we are on is called Cockrell’s Creek but it’s the size of a river and the view is wide a serene. Reedville Main Street (5 minutes by car or boat) has two restaurants, a gelato shop, and museum (with a coffee shop set to open in 2021). The area is dotted with gift and antique shops. The location is roughly where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The more specific neighborhood is called "Fleeton." We consider it a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the busy world; a place to disconnect and enjoy old fashioned family time. There are plenty of excursions and adventures to be had but the cities are not close. Richmond, VA is two hours away, Fredericksburg, VA is 1.5 hours, and Washington, DC is 2.5 hours to downtown.

Andare in giro

You need a car. A boat would be great, too! From this spot near Fleeton Point, the entire region is accessible! There are wineries along Rt. 200 on way to Kilmarnock (25 min) and Irvington, even a boat-up winery! Nature trails and public beach at Hughlett Point Natural Preserve, and of course, historic destinations. Stratford Hall (Robert E. Lee’s Birthplace), George Washington’s birthplace, and Westmoreland State Park along Rt. 3. Reedville, 5 minutes by boat or car, has two great restaurants, an ice cream shop, and fisherman's museum. Go fishing on a local charter boat or catch the Chesapeake Breeze to Tangier Island! Even if you are not on the boat to Tangier, you can watch it leave and return right from the house. A great day trip is the ferry to Tangier Island where people have been living in a fairly closed community for hundreds of years in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. See if you can catch the British twang still in their speaking dialect. Kilmarnock and Irvington are both lovely towns for more shopping/dining options. You pass through Kilmarnock on the way to Irvington, which is smaller and fewer shops. The Dog & Oyster Vineyard and Tasting Room is fun. They have rescue dogs that live there and kids (and adults) can roam through the vineyard. They also have inside activities to keep kids entertained. Our view of the harbor of Cockrell's Creek is wide and we enjoy the parade of boats, especially the temporary neighbors when a sailboat moors for the night right out back.
