North Rhine-Westphalia is the most populous German state, has produced many important artists and is one of the largest cultural regions in Europe. You can also travel to Muenster, an independent city located in this state. Muenster offers many outdoor activities, such as nature walks, rock climbing, horseback riding and mountain biking. The town is famous for being home to Muenster Cathedral, an impressive 13th century church. Also, on the outskirts is the Aasee, a beautiful artificial lake. Cologne boasts Germany's best carnival, and you can't argue with that because "Rose Monday" is one of the best parades of allegorical, mocking and provocative floats.
