Our home is a sunny, two story newish farmhouse-style with a large fenced backyard, garage, patio, and front porch with a swing. Hillsborough is a small, but lively, town within easy driving distance of Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh. We are two hours from our favorite beach on the Atlantic and three hours to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
We are retired and travel about half the year, often spur of the moment. This means our home might be available at any point in the year. Feel free to contact us just in case our home might be available.
The space
We have two bedrooms, one queen bed and one double bed. There are three full baths. Our home is very spacious with several "living" areas that can be used as sleeping space (couches, air mattress, sleeping pads, etc). Our modern kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking. The yard is wonderful for well-behaved pets, children, and get-togethers. There are many stairs to get into the house and to access the second story. We live on a busy street but it feels like the countryside. There are several fine restaurants in this small town. Bars and music are close by. The University of North Carolina and Duke University are each about a twenty-minute drive. This entire area has lots of hiking trails, forests, farmers' markets, agri-tourism, and sports. With enough time, this is a good base from which to explore North Carolina and Virginia, as well as cities like Washington DC, or visit the Atlantic coast or the Blue Ridge Mountains. .
Our home has hardwood and tiled floors, central air conditioning, electric heat, a dining area with six chairs, and comfortable furnishings. We have two bedrooms with a queen bed in one and a double bed in the other. We also have a queen sized inflatable mattress. Our third bedroom is an office with computer, monitors, printer, and scanner in case you need to work while here. (We have 300Mbps speed internet currently.) We have a private patio with table and chairs, a grill, and a vegetable garden. We are one mile from the central business area of Hillsborough. Because it is our home, not a vacation rental, you will find all kitchen needs, including pantry staples, linens, plants, books, cleaning supplies, etc. Send us a message and tell us about yourself. If you have any questions, please ask! Car exchange possible.
Guest access
This is a two story home with lots of steps. Bathrooms are not handicapped accessible. We have a keypad to enter the front and back doors--no key required.
Notes
We do not now have pets, but your small and well-behaved ones are welcome. No smoking inside, please. We ask that you remove shoes inside the house. Just be a good neighbor (we love ours and want to continue on good terms with them), be neat and clean up after yourself, basic things like that. And have a good time!

Neighbourhood
Our neighbors are quiet and friendly, ranging in age from school-aged children to retirees. Hillsborough is an historic, revolutionary war town. We live on the edge of the historic district, in an interesting area that is transitioning from working class to trendy, with lots of old-timers as well as young families living here. It feels "country" though it's within town limits.
Getting to my home
Our nearest airport is in Raleigh. We live very near several major highways.
Nearest airport
RDU, about 35 miles away.
Getting around
Car exchange may be possible. There is very minimal public transport though Uber is available. One private taxi driver operates in Hillsborough and he will deliver to the airport.

Deborah
We are a newly-retired couple who travel about half of the year. Deborah recently retired from a career in public health research where she was fortunate to travel much of the world. Jerry just retired from IBM. Now that our work life is compatible with travel and we have few family obligations, we travel as much as we can fit in. We especially love Mexico, Australia, the Southwest of the US, Southeast Asia and any new place we haven't been yet! We enjoy slow travel where we get a chance to visit local markets, take long walks in beautiful places, meet the neighbors, listen to music (and dance!) and maybe even learn a few words of a new language. We are neat freaks, non-smokers, rarely drink alcohol (and never yours), intrepid gardeners, and scrupulously honest. We also care for pets if that is required in your home. We miss having our own. Our home in Hillsborough welcomes you!
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
