Neighbourhood
Beechford is a tiny coastal hamlet of about 100 houses and only 70 permanent residents. Farmland surrounds the district.
The Bridestowe Lavender Farm is within an easy drive, as is the historical Low Head Pilot Station, lighthouse, and penguin viewings.
The world-famous Barnbougle and Lost Farm golf courses are less than an hour's drive.
The Tamar Valley has vineyards and wonderful local food producers, cherries, berries, and more. Make sure to pick up some Tasmanian cheeses and smoked salmon, or maybe some oysters and crayfish (lobster).
The Wine Trail will take you to wonderful vineyards such as Bay Of Fires vineyard, Pipers Brook, Delamere, with cellar-door sales. A pleasant drive over the Batman Bridge brings you to the vineyards and cellar doors of the West Tamar wine region.
Getting around
There is no public transport to Beechford. Your own car (or hire) would be necessary.
George Town is a short 15 minute drive, with shops, hotels, petrol stations, supermarkets and boat launching ramps.
The nearest large airport is Launceston Airport, 75kms away.

We stayed with Susan and Ted for a few days while my son and his friends were kayaking across the Bass Strait. Susan and Ted were generous hosts and great company. We enjoyed sharing meals, bottles of wine and travel stories with them. Susan and Ted's home is peaceful and has stunning views of the Bass Strait. We enjoyed walks along the beach, visits to nearby wineries and exploring George Town during our stay.
We had a wonderful stay at Susan and Teds home in Beechford
There was every amenity you could possibly hope for
We celebrated my husbands birthday with a meal cooked in a magnificent kitchen
Went for some great walks from the property and toured around the wineries and the Beaconsfield coal mine
c
Comfy chairs to watch the BIG TV with Netflix and have an afternoon snooze after a few chapters of a book
Not one but two ensuited bathrooms were a treat
You couldnt ask for a more relaxing break
Thank you Susan and Ted
It was a pleasure to have Susan and Ted stay with us for a second time. As before , it was a most enjoyable exchange, and we hope to see them again in the future.
Susan , Ted and Laurence were perfect guests. They were a pleasure to interact with, and left our apartment in pristine condition. We would certainly recommend them as exchange partners, and would be more than happy to have them here again.
We haven't done a simultaneous exchange, but Susan briefly stayed with us in Brisbane for a PLU meet-up.
Susan was pleasant to have, appreciative, and you could tell she's done many exchanges: she knows here way around in no time! ;-)
And.... we enjoyed the card games, Susan! I am already on the look-out for your particular game.
We hope to visit Tasmania sometime in the future. Something to look forward to.
Such a pleasure to host Susan and Ted at The Beach Shack
We had a couple of afternoon catch ups before their stay so we became friends before we had even swapped houses
It was a pleasure to host Faye and Michael as they awaited their son's arrival in Tas from his epic fund-raising kayak trip across Bass Strait.
We enjoyed their company, we shared wine and cheese and travellers' tales.
Happy to have hosted them.
Our second stay at Dave and Sheree's place was just as good as the first.
Their flat is a well equipped place with every thing you might need, and a surprise of delightful home baked goodies thrown in, too.
The garden is lovely, and we enjoyed the daily feeding of the lorikeets too, they love grapes and blueberries, cut in half, of course.
Their kindness and generous spirit shines through with every thing they provided, and everything they did for us.
We loved our second time here, and can strongly recommend a stay here if you get the opportunity.
Many thanks once again to Dave and Sheree
Katherine and Bill agreed to a short notice Globe exchange at their place, for which we are very grateful.
The downstairs flat is a wonderful location by the creek, with a view down to the water through the trees. We could watch the boats, canoes, kayaks and ducks. If you are susceptible to midge bites, bring your spray!
Their place is beautifully decorated, and well equipped, every thing we might need, including a huge fruit basket (don't bite the pears! ) and fresh bread. We were spoiled with a marvellous home made dessert, too.
If the noise from aircraft troubles you, bring headphones/earplugs. I hope the flightpath issue gets sorted out one day.
We looked out over the garden, which was a cooling visual delight.
The local supermarket was within a manageable walk, as was the dock for the river ferries.
Many thanks to Katherine and Bill.
Dave and Sheree agreed to a short notice Globe exchange at their place, for which we are very grateful.
We were warmly welcomed on such a hot day, with cold drinks and cake, much appreciated after the long drive.
Their place is very well equipped, every thing from large towels to food in the fridge and pantry, bus cards, even a teapot for our teabags. We felt immediately at home and comfortable. Dave and Sheree spoiled us with home baked goodies, too.
We looked out over the garden, which was a visual delight, lovely and interesting plants to look at, a visual feast for the eyes.
Local shops and cafes are within an easy walk.
Their kindness and attention to detail, the many generous touches (TimTams! ), their helpful attitude, all went to make this a marvellous stay, definitely deserving a title of “superhosts”.
Their generous spirit shines through with every thing they provided, and everything they did for us.
We loved our time here, and can strongly recommend a stay here if you get the opportunity.
Many thanks to Dave and Sheree.
Marion and Kevin were kind enough to host me for the PLU meet-up in Brisbane. They are delightful hosts in an immaculately clean and tidy home, well equipped for guests.
I enjoyed the “card night”, and appreciated the “taxi service”.
I hope to one day be able to extend hospitality to them at home in Tassie.
We had a couple of catch-ups with Robyn and Peter before the exchanges took place which confirmed that they are indeed “people like us”.
It's a shame they had to cut their visit short because of COVID border restrictions looming.
They left our home clean and tidy, with delightful gifts awaiting us.
We would be happy to have them as guests again.
Robyn and Peter's home is in a great location on the Mornington Peninsula, close to the coast and the “back beaches”
It’s a quirky beach house harking back to childhood long hot summer holidays, the sort I didn't have a chance to experience until this exchange.
The home has coastal/beach theme decor in keeping with its location, and all the modern convenient features, including a ydishwasher.
We met our hosts beforehand, and were able to arrange a stay at short notice, for which we were very grateful.
We did quite a lot of exploring with this home as a base: Cape Schanck lighthouse, Peninsula Hot Springs, Flinders, Red Hill Market, Rye Back Beach, to mention a few.
Thank you Robyn and Peter - we loved our stay and are happy to recommend their home.
