General overview
This home is a stand alone building in a medieval walled town with about 8 permanent residents. It has commanding views of the Tuscan countryside and includes a small garden. Lucardo Alto dates back to before 1100 and is centered in the heart of Tuscany. Only 30 kilometers to Florence, it is centrally located in the Chianti hillside and is reached by personal vehicle. Do not rely on public transport at this location.
The space
The private garden is 5 short steps down from the road level and has a small 2 level terrace with a pergola. Above that is the home with a lowest (street) level of a cantina that we use as a living room with an adjacent bathroom, with your shower. The next floor is the kitchen and dining. On the next floor up, there is my bedroom and my office which is locked during your stay. On this floor is a bathroom, with a shower. The top floor is the master bedroom (for you) with a half bath and tub. Therefore, I suggest 4 people maximum, double occupancy for full exchanges and 2 people for hospitality stays.
Guest access
The home is 4 floors with stairs connecting each level.. A plan of the house can be seen at our website, www.TuscanLucardo.com.
Notes
This home is not an 'accessible' home due to the stairs. Unfortunately we do not welcome pets at this time nor small children due to the stairs and general terrain around the home.
You will need your own car to stay at this location. Cars can be rented at the Florence (FLR), Bologna or Pisa airports.

Getting to my home
Use your personal car to come to Lucardo Alto and then walk up a short path to the ancient arch and to our home. You can drive to the house to empty the car but the car must be returned to the lot in the piazza near the church a 50 meter walk.
Nearest airport
Florence Peretola airport is 37 Km drive by car.
Pisa airport is 59 Km drive. Siena is 50 Km drive.
Getting around
We normally do our small shopping in Fiano (1.5 kilometers away) and then larger shopping in Montespertoli, Tavarnelle, or Certaldo which we are each 10 min away. San Casciano is 15 minutes by car and the largest of the surrounding towns.
Bus service can be found in Montespertoli or San Casciano.

I am happy to assist you with ideas for places to visit in my area. I have lived in Italy permanently since Sept 2021 but have come to this area for 20 years.
My very first exchange and let me tell you:: I loved it! Catherine´s place is very special: the location, the set up, the interior - all above expectations.
Sipping a Prosecco on the porch watching the sunset was out of this world. Chatherine is a great host and makes you feel at home instantly. Looking forward to more PLU exchanges in the future
Catherine was a welcoming and warm host, preparing a delicious dinner for us on the night we arrived and making us feel comfortable in her incredible home in Tuscany. She readily shared her insider’s knowledge of the area and enriched our stay with her great advice of must-do’s and what to avoid to make the most of our brief visit. It was fun getting to know her. We look forward to hosting her in Spain.
We had such a wonderful time with Catherine at her fabulous home in Lucardo. She is such a wonderful source of information and suggestions about Tuscany. Several days she suggested itineraries for us that we wouldn’t have figured out on our own.. In the afternoons, we sat on her piazza with wine and cheese and absorbed the gorgeous view. She made restaurant suggestions for the area that were so delicious. We are looking forward to Catherine visiting us inSeptember. She is a fantastic host and her elegant and comfortable home was great with incredible views.
Thank you for the kind words. It was wonderful getting to know you. Looking forward to my visit with you soon!!
Catherine and Joe just spent 4 days with us. We had such a great time with them. They are eager explorers and spent time on the coast, in the valley tasting wine, and still had time to read books and swim in our pool. They were considerate and enjoyable. I hope we have the opportunity to spend time with them again. I hope it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Beate was a complete pleasure. She rested here after her professional trip. Lovely guest very respectful and courteous of both me and my home. It was such a delight to chat with her and spend a bit of time together. She was here on her own for several days and I had the opportunity to meet her up upon arrival and day prior to her departure. I really hope she does return.!!!! Highly recommend her for this platform.
We are mid-stay here with Deanna and Mark‘s. It is absolutely lovely. Very quiet, hummingbirds everywhere, beautiful gardens. We’re walking among the redwoods, wine tasting and beach-walking, all short distances from their home. Truly, lovely, peaceful atmosphere, very comfortable room. They have a pool nestled into the property, dripping with lemons, perfect area for reading and relaxing
It was great to meet Michele and Larry. I learned a great deal from them as somewhat new to exchanging. I am looking forward to visiting with them on day soon.
It was so lovely to meet Deanna & Mark when they visited me in Tuscany, they were very respectful, quiet, creative people I believe they enjoyed our garden and the views through the Chianti . I found them to be gentle, wonderful people and we had a good time interacting during their visit. nNow, we are guests in their home which is nestled in the redwoods, idyllic gardens and hummingbirds. Have relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the sunny location. PLU has given us a gift of friendship with them.
