Neighbourhood
Jaco, is one of the closest beaches from the capital city of San Jose, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists.
Jaco attracts visitors from all over the world looking to soak up sun and surf for their vacation.
Jaco beach is 2 miles (3.2 km) of pure surfing waves with dark sand and deep blue waters. The surrounding landscape stays green all year long due to the nearby Tarcoles river and high humidity of the tropical rainforest.
What’s even better is that Scarlet Macaws are commonly seen flying around the beach and the surrounding hills. As a result, you have forest, beach, spectacular sunsets and wildlife at Jaco!
The Town
Due to the fact that Jaco is the most developed beach town in Costa Rica, you can find shopping available, including modern grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, ATM’s, souvenir stores, car rentals, several highly rated restaurants, etc. Nearby there is a popular plaza called "Jacó Walk" with restaurants, open air music/entertainment, and a safe playground for the kids.
Jaco Weather
The weather in Jaco is hot and humid due to its location on the coast. Average temperatures are mid 80’s to low 90’s F (29 C) in the dry season and low 80s F (26 C) in rainy season.
Jaco experiences typical tropical weather. Dry season is from December – end of April and rainy season from beginning of May – December. The hottest months are March and April, like the rest of the country.
Things to do
Surfing and surf lessons, kayak, stand up paddle board, ziplining, horseback riding, ATV tours, canyoning, fishing, bicycling, Waterfalls, golfing at Marriott Los Sueños Resort with its two golf courses and 200 slip marina. Water tours range from luxurious catamaran island cruises to daring crocodile river tours and much more!
Getting to my home
How to get to Jaco
Jaco is 1.5 hours away from the San Jose International Airport. There are private car services available for the trip, taxis, private or share shuttle, Uber or if you prefer to drive you could rent a car.
Around Jaco
You can walk, bike, taxi or rent a scooter/ATV. It takes around 20 minutes to walk from end to end of town. The main bus station is across from the Best Western at the north end of the beach.

Lovely condo, we enjoyed our vacation so much. Comfortable king bed. Well equipped kitchen for cooking. Pool is large and has multiple very shallow areas, great for young children. The nearby beach was wonderful - we swam and took surfing lessons. Beautiful area with many activities available. The hosts sent us some recommended restaurants when we arrived and they were delicious!
Perfect apartment, very well equipped and decorated!
Very good location to explore Jacó!
Muchas gracias!
Pura vida!!🙏
We had such an amazing time at Xenia and Jairo's condo in Jaco with our kids (4 and 6) on their first international trip (and our first PLU exchange). The pictures of the condo speak for themselves. It is huge (much bigger than we expected), modern, and spotless. The pool is the nicest we've been in, and a real treat for the kids. Jaco is a beach town that was very easy to get to and low stress with the little ones. It's a mix of international and Costa Rican tourists, with many activities within a short drive. We spent 10 days there and definitely didn't run out of things to do! Some tips for traveling there with kids:
1. When facing the ocean, the left side of the beach is the best for long, rolling waves and less riptide. Check the tide charts, at/around low tide there are large sand bars and calmer water.
2. There are lots of fun half-day activities around (crocodile tours, Carara National Park, Butterfly Garden, all kinds of adventure tourism). Save money by driving to them directly rather than booking tours in town. We liked mixing mixing these with half days on beach or in the pool.
3. Take a day trip or overnight to Manuel Antonio Park. It is over an hour to get there, but go very early and book a guide (we used AirBnB experiences). There is lots of wildlife and a stunning white sand beach with calm turquoise water. The beach closes at 3 (so there is time to hike back).
4. Don't miss the close by and little advertised Carara National Park. It is primary rainforest (much older than Manuel Antonio) and beautiful. There are guides there too but we went without.
5. There is a large grocery store down the street, so we did cook some. For lower cost lunches, try the local Sodas (definitely recommend Rustica) as well as Pachi's Pans for great empanadas. For dinner, we ate tuna and mahi mahi at 5 or 6 different restaurants and it was excellent everywhere (hard to go wrong with it is right off the boat).
Thanks Xenia and Jairo for a great trip!
My first non-simultaneous Exchange and it has been a complete success! .
The apartment is located on the 6th floor with elevator.
It is very cozy, it has all the comforts and comfort to spend a nice vacation.
The facilities have beautiful gardens with a pool in the center. Everything very well organized.
I did not have the pleasure of meeting Xenia but we had very good communication through WhatsApp. Very kind and always available!
The weather was not the best, it is the rainy season (August) but we enjoyed it just the same.
I would love to return on vacation... Thank you very much Xenia !!! We are waiting for you in Tuscany, Italy 🌴☀️❤️🇮🇹
We had a wonderful first ever exchange at Xenia & Hairo’s condo in Jaco Beach Costa Rica.
The condo is very spacious and has a wonderful view of the lovely pool and the sea. We spend many a night sitting in the balcony with our G & T’s looking out for the Macaws that frequently fly by.
Whilst we only used just the one bedroom and bathroom the huge main bed was super comfortable.
You are only about a 10 minute walk into Jaco where you have lots of choice of eateries and grocery shops. We would highly recommend Sunrise for breakfast, their Banana Pancakes are scrummy, also if you are looking for a really good but nothing fancy lunch head to Soda Garabito, lovely food, great service and it has a very local vibe.
Xenia’s condo is beautiful! It’s bright, clean and spacious with a beautiful view of the pool and ocean. It’s walking distance to the beach and downtown area with many stores and restaurants. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Gracias, Xenia!
Xenia and Hairo’s condo is fabulous! The property is amazing, well kept with a a gorgeous view of the ocean and mountains . Beautiful pool . You can walk to town and to the beach. We visited several different beaches during our visits and tried several restaurants in town. All were great and prices were reasonable. They were wonderful hosts and easy to communicate with. Jaco is a perfect little town to visit. We took a trip to beautiful Manuel Antonio National Park and took a very interesting tour of Rainforest spice plantation near Quepos. I highly recommend both. If you do go to Manuel Antonio National Park, plan to visit the beach there. It is stunning.
We had a terrific vacation and enjoyed every minute of our stay there. Thank you fior the opportunity.
We are honored to be Xenia and Hairo's first exchange ever. We swapped homes and cars for a month. Their Jaco condo is very clean, comfortable, spacious, and has an amazing view of the mountains, pool, and part of the ocean. The pool is simply amazing! We loved swimming at night after a day of sightseeing. It's beautifully lit in the evenings. The condo is only a 5 minute walk to town and 10 minutes to the beach. The property is very safe and there's a guard at the entrance checking everyone before they are allowed in. Xenia and Hairo have a wonderful cleaning lady that we were able to use at a very good rate.
We really like Jaco! It's where lush mountains meet the ocean. There's not shortage of restaurant options in this town. Try Pachi Pan's beef or chicken empanadas. I promise you won't regret it! We felt safe walking around in the evenings, but we weren't out very late as we have young kids. There are several beautiful beaches nearby. Playa Blanca is one of our favorites. It's hard to find, but Xenia will tell you the secret way 😉. We will miss the condo and waking up everyday to amazing views. Thanks for everything guys 💗💗💗
Thanks Xenia for being great exchange guests. Communication was easy and went great. We hope y’all had a wonderful holiday!
Xenia and Hairu spent couple of nights at our house in a hospitality exchange. We were happy to give them some rest after their hectic trip and before heading home, a place for Hairu to work. It was in the middle of the week with a crazy work schedule for both of us but we managed to enjoy a home cooker dinner, a visit to Ferney market and some cheese tasting. It was nice to see them after we meet for coffee almost 3 years ago in Paris. You are welcomed any time dear friends ! Besos
Hosting Xenia and her family has been a pleasure. They treated my home with a great deal of care and it was really clean upon my return. Communicating with her was easy and I am happy to know that my home played some role in her family's Paris adventure. I recommend hosting Xenia if given the opportunity.
Xenia and Hairo (and her daughter Veronica) were wonderful guests. They left our home immaculate and we are so glad we were able to meet them when they arrived. They even left us a lovely plant as a parting gift. We hope to see them again in Costa Rica one day!
It was such a pleasure exchanging with Xenia. Leading up to the visit she was very communicative - I feel like we got to really know each other! We kept in touch during the exchange, and when I returned my apartment was spotless. She also left me a beautiful houseplant to add to my collection 😊. She and her family were wonderful guests.
Exchanging with Xenia & Hairo was a great experience, communication was very easy and our home was very well looked after. Thank you both.
It has been a pleasure having Xenia and her husband in our home in Luxembourg.
They have been gracious guests and we cannot wait to meet them in person.
We did a video chat with Xenia and Hairo before the exchange and enjoyed getting to know them. They are kind and so helpful. We gave them a tour of our home beforehand, answering any questions they had. Communication was perfect before and during the exchange. A severe thunderstorm came through causing damage to our back patio sunshade. Xenia and Hairo were kind enough to help clean up the damage. We also exchanged cars, a first for both of us, and everything went smoothly. They were very respectful of our home and we returned to a very clean home and car. In fact, they cleaned our home better than any of our past exchangers. It was perfect. I highly recommend exchanging with them.
Jen and her family were very good guests. They used everything with respect and had a good communication.
Happy to know that you enjoyed our country.
Welcome back!
We had an amazing stay in Elizabeth and Dave beautiful Casita Escondida.
The house is brand new and so comfortable, it has everything you might need for your stay.
Close to many beaches where we were able to explore this area of our own country again.
The comunication with Elizabeth was great. Thank you all for letting us enjoy and build such a wonderful memories. Hopefully we will meet in the future. Enjoy your trip around the world.

Yousra and her family were great host. We spent 2 days in a hospitality stay even though we they were very busy with their schedules we share a nice dinner and visit to the market. Thanks again and you are more then welcome to Costa Rica.
Thank you Anne for helping us last minute after having a cancelation from someone else.
The place was very nice, great location. Hopefully we will be back...had a great time in Paris.
SHE CANCELED OUR RECIPROCAL EXCHANGE ( COSTA RICA/ PARIS) AFTER STAYING IN OUR PLACE, 3 WEEKS BEFORE OUR TRIP.
This was the worst guest experience we've had, and we been exchanging for 2 years, hosting around 25 families and being a guest 15 times, always with great reviews.
Her comunication from the begining was bad. She changed her mind about her itinerary and the dates she was staying in our Condo last minute. It was originally a 10 day stay but she ended up going to a different location. Then one morning she text to let us know she was going to our place. Of course we made it work to accommodate and host her in our place.
She never acknowledged the thoughtful gift that we left her, she found 2 CRICKETS in the bedroom but she thought they were "cockroaches" , she went crazy about it. It was late at night (9 pm) when she let me know I was able to send someone to take care of the insects. She never even thanked us for helping her with the cricket so late at night. Two days after her 4 day stay in our place (originally 10 days) she cancelled our stay in her place in Paris knowing that we had everything ready for our trip to Paris.
I will not recommend Ada for any exchange.
We had an amazing and memorable stay at Stephanie and Scott's home in Santa Rosa! They were absolutely wonderful and it was great to be able to meet them the first night of our stay. They took us to a beautiful vineyard for wine tasting and Stephanie made a delicious dinner to welcome us into their home!
The home exceeded our expectations and was perfect for a relaxing vacation which was just what we were looking for! The weather was still chilly but we enjoyed some time outdoors in the hot tub soaking in the breathtaking views of the mountains around us!
I will definally will recomend exchanging with them.
Thank you Xenia - it was so great to meet you and Hairo! Thanks for taking such good care of our home ❤️

We are a laid back couple who love to travel and our jobs usually allow us to do it with great frequency and ease. Our daughters Veronica 22 and Adriana 19 don't accompany us as often on our adventures anymore due to their own responsibilities. Hairo is a systems engineer and works on Internet projects as a freelance. I dedicate myself to Special Events.
I am allergic to cats so it is impossible for me to stay where they live.
Our Condominium is a secondary home and also an investment that we use in a few months as a source of rent.
We usually travel alone but sometimes we hope to do it with our daughters or a couple of friends.
