General overview

At 1600 metres altitude this resort has quite a long ski season, but what we love about it is that we can enjoy it just as much in the summer months. Hiking is amazing and quite pleasant as it doesn't get quite as hot as on the coast. Many people also come here to cycle in the mountains both on and off road. The ski field is connected to the expansive Grand Domaine of Alpe d'Huez, which boasts the longest black run in The Alps!

The space

Small is beautiful - well the view is big but the studio is 'cosy'! Two children can sleep on bunk beds just inside the front door to the apartment, which is off a quiet internal hallway. The bathroom, with full length bath, is off this room, as is the toilet. The adults sleep on a solid, convertible, alpine couch, with the second bed rolling out from underneath at night. The picture still shows the old clic clac but that is now gone. The kitchen is beside the dining table and very compact but perfectly functional, although there are a few good family restaurants in our resort, as well as more fine dining over in Alpe d'Huez. We have a ski/boot locker downstairs where gear can be stored and then there is internal access to our second floor studio via a carpeted staircase.

Guest access

Second floor via a staircase. Cars are parked right outside the building. It is possible to arrive in Grenoble by train and take a shuttle bus service up to Auris en Oisans - quite a good idea (especially in winter) as cars are hardly needed when skiing. You would need a car to get to the hikes in Parc des Ecrins, Les Deux Alpes etc but not for local hikes.

Notes

This resort is ideal for families with young children who want to introduce them to the snow in a friendly environment. There are activities that cater to the little ones during the school holidays. Teenagers enjoy heading across the river (by chairlift) to Alpe d'Huez for skiing as well as other activities. We provide a portable cot for babies. There are no laundry facilities in yhe building, however there is a good laundromat a couple of minutes walk away.

Getting around

There is a small supermarket in the village square as well as ski shops, one fashion shop, a newsagent/tabac, some bars and restaurants. These are all easily accessible on foot. The chairlifts start approx 400m from the studio. At the bottom of the hill - approx 30 minutes drive - you will find a big supermarket, petrol station, more restaurants etc.

Jose

Our New Zealand-French family is changing shape slightly since first joining PLU. Mum, Jose and Dad, Gilles have now both moved to Kosovo (new listing coming up!). We also still have the studio in the Alps to offer. In addition to this we would love to host any 18+ children of PLUs, as our 19 year old daughter has been travelling since May 2022 so we have spare rooms for short stays.
